We send things to different people/locations that we trust and the stuff we send has an excellent record of getting there safe and intact, including electronics, other valuables and fragile stuff.

A note on sending electronics items:

The customs duties on this stuff can be extremely high and there will be all kinds of hassles getting it cleared and paying the duty to have it released.

ALL of the Balikbayan shippers that I have ever used tell you outright that they don't accept electronics items (among other things) in their shipments. Yes, I know that a whole lot of Filipinos do this and don't list the stuff on the packing list/customs declaration forms, but they are committing fraud and breaking the law.

The chances of getting caught are not great, but if your shipment is opened for random inspection and they catch that fraud, expect your box to be confiscated at the least.

My advice: If you are going to lie on your customs declaration and break the law, DO NOT openly admit it here on an Internet open forum!    ;)

I've used the USPS small flat rate box many times, $12.  No issues so far but I have not sent electronics or valuables, only clothing items, trinkets, and some VS stuff.  No issues nothing stolen yet, but who knows...its the Philippines.

For valuables I've used FedEx.  Being in the headquarters city works great because I know many FedEx employees and use their discount which is significant, more that 80%.

I send all the electronics via FedEx.  The custom and duties are higher than the shipping costs.  I sent a laptop and some other electronics via FedEx and the duties were $50 where I had only paid $35 for Priority FedEx International Shipping.

If you don't want to spend a fortune on shipping get to know a FedEx employee or delay the gift and take it with you.

Pig, hope your wife passes next time around!

My sweeties cousin didn't pass the most recent NLE Exam.

She just graduated in April from a top Nursing school and paid $1000 usd for a prep class.  She was devastated and didn't leave her room for a week.

Thing about it was most of her classmates passed.

She plans to retake in December I think.

Zulu, that is not a bad duty fee you paid for the electronic stuff- it is about what they "should" charge.

This is a list of custom fees "given" to me by a CO. It is a guideline to what "should" be charged, we all know what they should charged & what is actually charged are different.  ::)

CRT TV
TV 20" & under        $44
TV 24" to 27"           $44
TV 28" to 32"           $66
TV 30" to 46"         $132

LED/LCD
20" - 21"                $132
25"                         $220
29"                         $250
30" to 46"              $300
Microwave                $22
Blu-Ray                     $20
VCR/VCD/DVD           $11
Printer                       $22
Fax Machine               $22
Mini Stereo                $33
A/C                            $33
Computer             $22 - $66
Camera                     $13
Cellphone                  $11
Smart Phone              $13
Home Theater            $33
Laptop/Tablet            $44
LCD Monitor               $44
Game Consoles          $30
Handhelds Games      $15
Digital SLR Camera     $30

All other electronic items can be charged anywhere from 40%-200% tax based on the invoice price.

And as Ray previously said, BB shippers will not accept electronic items or the responsibility- they have the following printed on their forms/sites:  Electronic items or appliances are shipped at owner's risk.

Also, for any quantity over 12 of the same kind (any item - electronic or non electronics) is considered commercial quantity and will be subject to custom & duty fees.
