I cannot ever remember anyone traveling to Colombia the first time and saying that they did not have a blast. Even with all the crazy twists and turns.
I would book a flight tommorrow if I had the vacation time, that's how much I'm wanting to experience the BAQ...the twists and turns make it interesting and something ill never forget. Craziness and pure beauty...what a combo. Guess I shouldn't say crazy...how bout pure beauty and the "colombiana way".

does your wife lie a lot? My wife lies a lot about little stupid things. And when I ask her why, when there is seemingly no reason for it, she just shrugs her shoulders while uttering my favorite answer "no se BB"

I even ask what would happen if she found out I was cheating on her with a bunch of other "bitches" on the side. She replies "no se". I ask if she would leave me. She replies "nooooooooo BB I loveeeeeeeeeeeee you foreverrrrrrrrrrr".

Lieing in a relationship on a regular basis is not acceptable AB no matter how small. For me, as well as I am sure many other men this would not be something I could deal with in a marriage.
Your wife would not leave you if you slept with a "bunch of other bitches" Really?  My wife would be OUT THE DOOR if I slept with or fooled around with even one woman. The same would apply for me if she cheated as well.
It appears that her beauty is really blinding you with some huge character flaws here AB.  Remember if ANY WOMAN feels it's OK for you to cheat, she knows it is acceptable if she does it as well!!!
Sorry if I came across too strong. I mean no disrespect. I just really find these type of comments and behavior UNACCEPTABLE for the success of a long term marriage.

Chris, I definitely agree with you on some level but it really is a matter of understanding Costeno Culture. I don't think there's any ill intent or intentional deceit behind Bama's wife's lies. It's just what most Costenos do. It's impolite to reject, so they avoid any situation where they have to do the rejecting. It's impolite to be the bearer of bad news, so they just lie about it even though everyone will eventually find out the truth. When you've been raised from birth to believe this is appropriate behavior it's a very difficult habit to break. If Bama hangs in there, I think he'll be a lot more successful breaking those habits once she is actually living here.

To anyone considering going to Barranquilla to date, you've been forewarned. Lying is a part of the culture and is an accepted practice amoungst everyone there. I believe anyone can change, especially when love is the motivator, but I think Bama's in for a very long road.

I understand why you are writing that, but you have to know my wife. FT met her and he can vouch for the way she is to a certain degree. Believe me I have checked her out in every way possible. And she is good to go.

Her beauty is not blinding me for sure. She is super cute and fit, but definitely not a 10.  I have been with better looking women in Colombia than she is. But her inner beauty is the best I have met up with so far.

That is good enough for me.

The part about the woman thinking it is OK for her to cheat, although tolerating cheating from their man? I know it sounds crazy and I would probably not believe it either, but that's the way it goes in Soledad. They are old school Costenas there. Like I said, I am sure that my suegra would never dream of doing that to her husband. Or any of the other traditional housewives that I have met there at parties or wherever. They  love their husbands and accept them "asi". That has been my experience. The men are even talking in regular voice about their exploits and everyone knows what they are doing, but they are at the parties as a family with the wife nearby. Sometimes their own sons are in on the discussion listening to their dads bragging about it.

I am not sure if you have spent much time in Soledad, but it is indeed another planet.

You are probably right Benjio, but I bet it will be a very interesting road with as many good times or more than the bad. And at the very least I will be LIVING life and not on the sidelines somewhere reading about other people who are doing not much of anything, just watching the years roll by.

In my life the most valuable things I have done and experienced would probably be considered much to risky to consider by most guys. But in the end they paid off big time. And even things that did not go my way were not tragic disasters, in fact, I probably am as successful today as much because of the failures as of the successes.

So my motto is something like "Life is a journey, enjoy the ride!"

No arguments here. I'm the same way. If you don't take the huge risk you don't get the huge rewards. I honestly just look at anything any Costeno tells me as bull[snip] until I see proof, then I only 50% believe them, because the proof might be a lie within itself. When you go to the coast with that viewpoint, you're never disapointed, only pleasantly surprised when someone was actually telling the truth.

I could not have said it better myself. Every single word you just wrote. Just got to go in with the right attitude.

There are reasons why people go to Barranquilla and why it is sometimes hard to find anyone from there that wants to leave even though it is basically the big sweaty armpit of Colombia without many physically redeeming qualities. It is something very hard to explain. I hate it but love it. And the people there tambien. I feel like going right now!

Come on Saleens7, let's roll, along with Benjio and we will show you the good times. I have a feeling you are going to love it. Talk to Colgando, he seems to have been bitten by the BAQ bug. IT is hard to get out of your system once you have experienced it.

As much [snip] as I talk about it, I've definitely been bitten by the Barranquilla bug and I'll probably be going there the rest of my life. Whether my future wife is from there or not. Next year I'll be living there for at least six months so we'll definitely set something up.

I am not sure if you have spent much time in Soledad, but it is indeed another planet.
So I guess the question you will be dealing with for the long term is this:

You can remove the woman from Soledad but can you get Soledad out of the woman? 8)

The best of luck to you AB.  Benjio is correct, you do have a long road ahead of you but I hope it's a rewarding one.

Well she was already here for 3 months and everything was great except for one thing....the English. And she fixed that so I think we will be OK. Time will tell. Thanks for wishing me well. I appreciate it. I will return here to report the good, bad, and ugly. no problem.

A Costeno will lose their job stealing something that cost less than a fraction of their salaries. Then, when caught red handed stealing, they'll lie about that.

Every few months my wife tells me stories of people who have been fired at the bank for fraud. Like you say, it's often for VERY small amounts ... crazy!
Hablo espanolo mucho bieno!
