I'm going in!
« on: August 07, 2011, 07:23:48 AM »
I'm going in!
Or as we say here: I'm going over the top.

OK so It's offical I'm going to Colombia.

From the point of view of finding a wife I have more or less arranged to do everything "wrong".
In other words all the things that most people advise you not to do - well of course I have pretty much gone ahead and arranged things exactly as advised not to. What can I say? At least I know I am virtually guaranteed to crash and burn in the wife hunting department so I know I don't need to pack a diamond ring.

So far I have arranged to go to Cali and Bogota.
I got a great invitation to Baranquilla as well but I can't get enough time off work so I've dropped that idea. I could still end up on the coast and other destinations. We'll see.

I've got my plane tickets. I asked about recommed vacinations and I have been told it will cost about $300. That seems rediculous to me and I haven't done it yet but I'll probably fork out for it in due course. It's a very small risk for me but I guess better safe than sorry when it comes to things like Yellow Fever etc.

At this stage my biggest problem could be my lack of speaking skills. My reading is at intermediate level. In fact my reading and even my writing is at such a level that the women constantly over estimate my ability to hold a verbal conversation because of my abilities with the written word. I had better take a pen and pad.

There is one thing that I have learnt already without even having been in the country. It should be no surprise that latinos in general get easily excited about things. However there is defintely a clear patten with most Colombianas that you sort of need to experience to appreciate. A fairly simple thing very quickly becomes a major drama. I mean a MAJOR drama out of all proportion to the events. Not every woman does this but it is the norm.

Vman.

So what is it that you're doing that is so wrong?  The biggest two mistakes are giving money or excessive gifts to the woman, or putting an engagement ring on the first chica that you go out with.

Other than that for the most part, the rest will be a good learning experience and hopefully an enjoyable holiday, no matter what happens.

You have booked your trip and are actually going - THAT is the most important thing.

As it stands (and this may change), I'll be in Provedencia from 11/18-11/23; Barranquilla from 11/23-12/1 Medellin from 12/1-12/3; Neiva from 12/3-12/6 then Pereira from 12/6-12/10. I have two long layovers in Bogota on 12/1 and 12/6 so I'll be out and about in the city visiting friends. If you're going to be in any of these areas in this time frame and you want to meet up PM me. Good luck.

V Man  in most states you can simply go to your county health department for the shots. You tell them what country you´re traveling to and they´ll tell you what you need. Shouldn´t cost $300. You´ll want to make sure your tetanus is up to date and your hepititus. They´ll probobly tell you yellow fever but that´s not such an issue in Cali or Bogotá. The major outbreaks have been on the north coast (Santa Marta) so for sure if you´re going to Barranquilla.

Shots ... definitely. Tetanus, Hepatitus A and B, and Typhoid, as these can be food born infections. And here in the States my shots did cost $300 USD. Australia is obviously different.  But if your doctor or dept. of health adivses you to get the Yellow Fever vaccine, you are best to listen to them. I understand Bogota is cold but since you are going to Cali where it's warm ... that choice is obvious to me.

BtheB I'll do my best. Remind me if I forget.

Researcher - thanks mate, will do.

Saleens - Some would say that I've already conquered a Colombiana or 2 but I can assure you that when it happens to you, then you are the one that feels like all your defences have been swept aside like dust in the wind.

So what is it that you're doing that is so wrong?  The biggest two mistakes are giving money or excessive gifts to the woman, or putting an engagement ring on the first chica that you go out with.

1. Money or excessive gifts. Mmmm well I've resisted so far. It could be touch and go on this point but technically speaking the mission should stay with parameters - check.
2. Putting an engagement ring on the first chica that you go out with.  Mmmmmm touch and go but at the time of writing I'm still in the clear on this one too. I'll neglect to pack one - check.
3. Actually going - check and Yiiiiiiiipppppppeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Muchas gracias Whitey.

Hey Benjio thanks mate but my raid will have been executed and been extracted by that stage. If not, I'd probably be beyond help by then anyway.

JimD - thanks mate. Also any suggestions you have of things to do in Cali drop me a line. I expect I wont have time to do the things I've already lined up but I can never have too many options.

I met an Aussie from Brisbane at Jamie's when I was there this passed January. When he broke down the details of getting to Colombia from Australia I couldn't believe he had came that far to meet Colombianas, but I definitely understood.

It's funny, because the guys I know in the U.S. Navy that have been to Australia say Aussie women are AWESOME!!! Can't believe guys are coming from there to go to Colombia but more power to them. ENJOY and HAPPY HUNTING!!!!  8)

Benjio, Aussie women are HOT and I have no problems getting dates here. They are friendly and mostly straight forward. I date attractive women, younger than myself here all the time. Marriage material - well that is another thing altogether. I could write an amusing short book on the woman I have dated. Once you dig down a little you realise most of them are seriously screwed up in one way or another by feminism. It's probably worse in the USA but it's still an issue here as well.

The other thing is that it has a lot to do with it are the aspects that Colombian woman have in their favour rather than what is wrong with Aussie women. Take one example - I am very affectionate. I love very affectionate women. Guess how I get along with Colombianas.

The logistics of getting to Colombia - well I've tried to explain it on this board before and I've only got stick about it because many on here don't comprehend it so they don't believe what I tell them.

The good thing about that is when a Colombiana comprends what's involved she realises this is no junket for me.

JB - thanks mate.

About 2 years. After that I am wondering if I would be better off single anyway! However ask me again in 2 years for a more acurate estimate.

That's pretty good....most guys just spend a couple weeks down here....pick one out and then try to keep things going while in the states.

Anyway I think that there is some thing to be gleaned by guys that live in Colombia and date without a specific time frame for getting married.

When Pete was alive a lot of gringos would meet up at his place and compare notes and better yet get a close up look at what other guys were doing.

Everybody is different it gave other guys that just started out an idea how high they could shot for without running into problems....other wise you are liable to just go for the older ones with kids in the hope that they won't run away once you get them to the states. jajaja

Don't worry too much about your speaking skills.  I am a deaf person which means even for English, my speaking skills isn't good let alone Spanish... and I have a girlfriend (hearing).    If I can do it, so you can!!

I had used a pen and pad on many ocassions - even with my girlfriend :)

Good luck in your trip and do not worry too much.  Be yourself

I wouldn't let you're lack of Spanish stop you from going down. But it should definitely be a concern and something you should strive to over come.

A lack of Spanish will relegate you to  the lower strata women that wake up every morning thinking "I really need to find me a man to take of me and my kids" as opposed to hot single women that are open to the idea of getting married but really don't have to as a matter of necessity.

Most guys are happier with the latter. But There doesn't seem to be a shortage of guys around here that sing the praises of the older ones with children which admitidly can be very apreciative. But it has been my experience that gratitude is one of the least enduring of human emotions.
I personally can't think of a better way of ensuring that a relationship is mutally loving than to marry someone that really doesn't need to be married.

"I personally can't think of a better way of ensuring that a relationship is mutally loving than to marry someone that really doesn't need to be married. " Did you mean someone who doesn't need to be married right away? Because last time I checked, not marrying, especially for women, is socially stigmatizing after a certain age...We can choose not to marry, but eventually once we get to a certain age people will wonder what is wrong with us if we have not married...

Vman, just have fun with it...your lack of language isn't that big a deal right now...if you are halfway intelligent you'll be able to figure out a lot just by being there in Colombia interacting with the ladies.
