PAL Fly Asia Pass
« on: July 31, 2011, 04:43:36 PM »
Looks like a copy of the Cathay Pacific All Asia Pass.

Seems like a good deal for $270. I guess the big catch is the surcharges and taxes.

At first it does sound like one of those 'too good to be true' scenarios, but when you look at all the taxes and surcharges, although they're awfully steep, it's still probably a good deal. But paying right around $400 in taxes and surcharges to go to Australia, which as part of the Asia already PIF--Pacific Islands Forum--I'm sure some will argue that as a continent, it's not part of Asia--it still seems steep.

You can catch flights from Manila to Davao--same nation, and they run like buses--for around $70 right up to an hour before they leave and here the taxes and surcharges are at least $20.

Still, if for around $600 , you can go to a major city in China, Japan, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam --five nations, that seems like a good deal, but the surcharges and taxes make me almost want to forget about paying $730+ to see Delhi, India or Australia, flying out of Manila, which isn't that far off.
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

Good program but as said before the surcharges are a killer - each of these cities have a huge surcharges.

For regional flight you must fly out of Manila ( cannot use Cebu or Davao).  ::)
I notice that they didn't specify on the add-ons - once or multiple times? It would be good if someone can fly multiple times to an add-on city. ( i. e. multiple times to the USA).
Open-jaw allowed ( example, you can fly into Shanghai & out from Beijing).
The surcharges for economy & business are the same for Fiesta & Mabuhay classes - a good deal for someone who is traveling business class.

It will be useful for someone who is country hopping but personally, I would pass on it.

Thanks for your opinion k!

PAL used to be my favorite airline many years ago, but they have really gone to shyt over the years.

Now they are overpriced, they don't even serve San Miguel Beer, the flight attendants are older/gay, and they are still are known as Plane Always Late.

Any which way you look at it - not a good deal - the surcharges are too high.

It looks like they have these promotions to compete with Cebu Pacific but I think that Cebu Pacific have better fares.

They now have the Fly Pinas Pass:

Hey Ray,

On my last flight from Manila to LA, one of the PAL flight attendants was an older/gay WHITE dude!  He didn't appear to have any Filipno blood, spoke perfect English, and I never heard him speak Tagalog with any of the Filipino passengers.  ???
