Can Anyone Recommend a Doctor to Do a DS-3025 in Cali?
« on: May 24, 2011, 10:33:49 AM »

Can Anyone Recommend a Doctor to Do a DS-3025 in Cali?  My girl needs to get that ready for her interview later this summer.

Also, is there such a thing as doing the medical too far in advance?  My girl knows someone who did it too far in advance and it got denied in bogota.

We're anticipating the interview to be in July/August

thanks in advance

Your fiancée will need to use one of the panel physicians which have been approved by the Bogota Embassy, so she won't have too much of a choice. She will receive the listing of approved physicians in her appointment packet.

Here is a link to the Bogota Embassy's K-visa appointment packet - it looks like there are only 2 approved panel physicians that she can use, both of whom are located in Bogota (see page 6):  http://bogota.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/consular/2010/kappointmentpackagefeb2010.pdf

I'm not sure about the requirements in Bogota but the consulate in China will only accept medical exams which have been completed within 6 months prior to the interview.

I can't speak from experience in Bogota but that is exactly what my wife and I did in China. We traveled to Guangzhou (where the consulate is located) 2 days before her interview date and had her medical exam done then. From talking with all the other people who were there for a medical exam on the same day that we went, this is exactly what most of them were doing as well - getting the exam done a few days prior to their interview.

Same in Manila, which from my wife's home, is on the other side of the 7000+ island nation--a long enough flight, or a hellish ferry boat. Then, right before her physical, before she could interview, 'that time of the month' came along, so the physical and interview was pushed back timewise in accordance with nature. Thankfully she was staying with friends, or the bill for hotel, etc would've run up a bit.

Nobody said this was going to be easy! :-X

Bogota is the only place that I know of that this exam can be done.

$129,000 pesos for the laboratory and $143.000 pesos for the physical (as of Jun, 2010). Approximately US$140 for both procedures plus vaccination fees if necessary. Note that vaccination fees can be expensive. Note: beware: a friend was told she needed vaccinations that she didn't need by the examining doctor (a woman) and referred to an expensive clinic by the her (possibly getting kick backs). Don't get vaccinations you don't need, find out before hand from your own doctor and complain to the examining doctor and the embassy of any tricks.

Here are some places you can check for lodging:
www.bogotacolombialodging.com Lots of people use this service. The owner is an American, he has a free phone to call the US, wireless internet, free breakfast, and appartments. Rooms are as cheap as 55.00 USD a night. Other options: http://www.hotelbogotainn.com/ http://www.welovebogota.com/

Try to schedule the laboratory and medical exam at least 2 days before the interview. This will allow some extra time to deal with any unexpected problems.

      Hope this helps.
