The wife has arrived
« on: February 05, 2011, 02:44:39 PM »
The wife arrived at 11:47am this Morning.

Her flight was on Cathay Pacific - one stop in HK & then direct to JFK. She got a good deal by buying the ticket directly from the Cathay's office in Makati - I guided her & told her what class ticket to ask for.

Everything went smooth - from boarding in NAIA to HK (65 minutes connection time - even had time to get snacks in HKIA) to immigration in JFK..

Her flight was at 6am but she left home at 2:45am as she wanted to avoid "the crowd". She arrange it that way - wanted an early morning flight.
Her sister & brother-in-law dropped her off at the airport.
She said that when she arrived at NAIA there was a long line of people (mostly OFWs) outside the airport waiting to get in.

She was feed once on the way to HK (2hr flight) & 3 times (lunch & 2 snacks) on the way to JFK  - she didn't order the rice dishes. :o

Also she didn't sleep on the plane - spent the entire trip watching movies. Also she didn't sleep since Friday afternoon. Now
she is saying that she cannot sleep & I am trying to explain jet lag to her - in the next day or so it will hit her.
Now she is in the kitchen cleaning.

Kfc,

Congrats on a successful completion of the circle!  Now the real work begins, its great to have a partner to travel that journey with you.

She will be sleeping well once it hits her!

Good luck,

Congrats kfc. Yeah, she'll figure out what is meant by being on Philippine time in another day or so.

Congratulations!!  :D

Yeah, pretty soon she's gonna feel like she got run over by a bus... errr... a Jeepney.  ;)

Best Wishes to you both getting settled in!  :)

Awesome KFC. I'm sure she'll be fine in a few days when she adjusts to our time schedule.

The kitchen cleaning seems to be a constant theme.

When she's finished with the kitchen, my bathroom could use a little help.

Congrats KFC ... all the best to you both ...

Thanks guys.

I did warn her to get some sleep the day before but she didn't - she was to "excited" to sleep. I think that she fall asleep soon as she is tired.

Her entry at JFK was very simple. She handed her brown enveloped at immigration, it was opened & looked at & then she was only asked one question - "will this be your correct address?"

Right now I am tired as I didn't get any sleep myself - I hope that she fall asleep with me too.  :)

I will update tomorrow.

One way to fight jet lag is to force yourself onto local time.  Go to bed at your normal time, not when you feel tired, get up at your normal time even if you didn't sleep at all.  All of us experienced world travelers know this.  She may not.  She may resist it, responding to her body's internal clock instead which just makes the transition longer and more difficult.  If she doesn't take your advice, at some point you may have to man-up, put on your Man-of-the-House pants and insist she do as you say for her own good because you love her and don't want to see her suffering for days on end with harsh wintery jet lag (which makes it worse if there' no sun to help reset the internal clock).  Just a word to the wise.

Guys,

When flying, I only get jet lag after traveling West. No problems coming home.

The best way to avoid jet lag is to take a ship instead of a jet. At 18 knots, you'll only have to adjust your clock by one hour every day or two. You'll arrive at your destination refreshed and ready to hit the beach.

See you local Navy recruiter tomorrow!   :D

She is trying to get some sleep now.

She chatted for about 3 hours with her sisters & other family members then she went to cook some rice, spam & tomatoes. There is food at home, including Palabok which I bought for her earlier but she wanted rice & Spam.

I asked her about her experience (services) on Cathay Pacific. She said it was great and that she was sitting alone. At first I was a bit confuse and said to myself why was she sitting alone.......... until I looked at her boarding pass and it said "Business Class". On her very first international flight she was upgraded - what are the chances of that?
She is "attached" to my Marco Polo Club account (which I have status) but no request/redemption was made by me.

So you're saying he should have sent her by surface freight rather than air mail?   ;D

Really? I'm always the other way around. Traveling east has been tougher for me. It's only the past decade or so that I've been able to sleep on planes, so that makes things a lot easier.

I'm with Bob on the local time too, no naps in the daytime - it just prolongs the misery.

My jet lag was traveling back to NYC from Manila. Going to Manila I had none even without sleep the previous day, but coming back was a different story.

She did get some sleep last night. But she was up bright & early chatting with her sisters & nieces.

She was upgraded to Business Class, so she had a nice seat & was comfortable, she could have gotten rest on the plane but she stayed up to "enjoy" the flight.  ::)

Hey Ray,

I wish they would take me! I guess that I will just have to settle for the ferries in the Philippines.
