I heard about "Badoo" which is a free social networking/dating website that is popular in Latin America.

I created a profile and have received a few replies but I am starting to WONDER....are some of these gals "working girls" (as in the world's oldest profession).  I had one girl in Cartagena respond to me at 3am (Colombia time) on a Tuesday!  Got me thinking that MAYBE this gal was just getting home from the night shift.

If it were any other city I might be less suspicious.....I wake up in the middle of the night sometimes and get on line so who knows.  However, given her first reply to me is her saying she'd like to meet for coffee or go dancing when I am in town makes me VERY skeptical.

I've met some nice girls on Cupid that I am sure are legit but sifting through the questionable and potential scams really starts to get old.......what did I expect from a "free" site like Badoo.  You get what you pay for!

Well, meet her for coffee when you are in town and let us know.

"Badoo" ended my relationships with my ex-prometida, Liz

I caught her, creating her profile there, claiming that she is 'single' and age: 28 (instead of 35), and invited to my work e-mail by mistake.   She did not know it was my work e-mail when I added her a year before - just for emergency.   She did not invite me in my personal e-mail because she had to make sure not to select it when inviting out.

I had to create a fake profile of my own and contacted her, and asking her few questions.  "No boyfriend, etc" and gave 'me' her new phone number and asked 'me' if I could meet her!!

A month later, I decided to confront her.  She denied that it was her profile, and told me that she did not visit Badoo for 3 years!!   2 of her 3 photos weren't even 6 months old, let alone 3 years!  Every time when she is online in MSN, her 'Badoo' is also online, and I could easily read her 'writing style' (like graphology).  Later, she admitted that she visited Badoo, and decided to delete it.   Guess what?  She told me that she couldn't remember the password for it.  Hence, she went back.   In fact I wrote her e-mail address in "Forgot password" on few occassions!!  I knew she had received it.
I knew she lied again............. so I thought it is pointless continue the relationships when I cannot trust her.

so be careful with BADOO, and I do not think it is a good site for 'serious' but someone else (apparently her friend's friend) told me what she did behind my back ...... I cannot prove that this friend was telling me the truth, but as Liz lied to me many times which found me hard to believe in her, therefore I had to believe this friend more than Liz.

most online dating sites have " professionals"  on them, it goes with the territory, badoo, cupid, amigos, all of them. even the pay sites like cupid have girls working gringos for $$ because the girls are contacted by paid male members, so they are not putting up anything on their end.  your just going to have to sift through the gold diggers and part time prepagos on each site to find the few girls who are serious and not looking to play. one piece of advice, any girl in these sites who has been on for over 2 months, is not too serious and has probably met  quite a few gringos and is looking for a " pay for play" novio. some just like all the attention from all the men and use the site for enjoyment

at least the normal girls i know who were on these websites, left or deleted their profile after a few weeks , due to so many letters and weird foreigners and were turned off or just completely freaked out.

funnest story was one friend was talking to a guy from cupid for 2 weeks, finally gave her email and started chatting by msn. they agreed to chat by web cam, guess what, when he turned on his cam, he was nude and pleasuring himself, my friend was so shocked and disgusted that she deleted her profile, but i got a good laugh out of it.

Very good post and completely true from what my wife, her sister, and her friends have told me about their experiences.

While we are worried about the gold-diggers and pro's, the decent girls are having to deal with all kinds of freaks and perverts.  Most decent women get tired of this very quickly.

The good news in this is that if you are a decent guy, a gentlemen, and genuinely interested in getting to know the woman, you'll stand out from the freaks.

My wife told me that my buddy and I were the only "normal" guys she ever met online ... ahhh, but these colombianas ... they always know the right thing to say to their man ...  ;)

Whitey I agree.... that kind of nasty actions by foolish nasty morons.....wow just wow. That scar a girl and probably did.

That kind of thing doesnt have a shred of common decency....a real loser does stuff like that.

Whitey -- a sad fact though if you think about it for a second....

do you think though these type of guys may actually have no conscience and therefore might be far easier for them  to "get to know" girls because they master the BS ?

Im social generally but i do have that nice guy trait of thinking of others feelings (aka not wanting to come off like a wierdo to girls).

So i think while being nice when nicer guys are trying to be polite...these others guys dont have that restriction.

I bet it hapens more than wed like to think with ILL affect on the good girls out there we DO want.

From what I've heard, these guys are really the male version of the female gold-diggers and pre-pagos.  They are usually "working" several people at the same time, they often aren't that smart and don't have much patience, so they reveal themselves quickly.

And then, there are the few that are in for the longer haul and play the long con ... those are the dangerous ones ...

The free sites aren't so bad, you just need to cut your teeth, learn a little patience, and become adept with weeding out the players, working girls, and scammers quickly. Remember, the good women posting on these sites also know these are free and they sign up because guess what, they are hopeful that there are good men there! The free sites and even some pay sites will draw all kinds of raw talent. If you don't want to play with these kinds of odds, then you're probably going to need to pony up some cash and join sites like Jamie's or Introductions by Consuela or ... ???

As for the reply, give the girl the benefit of the doubt at first, meeting for coffee or going dancing when you're in town. What else is she going to reply with? Think about it ... she is also making a small wager (for lack of a better word) that you are a serious, legitimate guy worth her time. You are writing from far away so how serious could you possibly be? Do not think for a moment that she hasn't heard the same line of sh*t a thousand times before.

She is also most likely getting inundated with e-mails and messages from freaks, pervs, men who can barely put a sentence together, and everything else in between. Do a little online research and I think you're going to find statisically, you were lucky to hear back from her at all; because depending on the site, the women are getting hundreds and hundreds of e-mails in a short period of time ... especially the hot ones.

Finally, you mention having some luck on the Cupid site. Why would you deviate from this?

Thanks to all who replied. All very good info.

Euforia: Very good post. You made many excellent points.

I was just trying to expand my universe of choices....short of being there. I figured if I didn't meet a love interest on Badoo I MIGHT meet a local tour guide with female friends.

I have no idea if the link will stick but this is her profile.

Ouch! Yep the link worked and yes, I'd be very careful of this woman if I were you. The pictures are a little too perfect and she shows off way too much of her body on a public site like this. She's in a bathing suit but where's the pool?

If I were looking, I'd be zoning in on the women who have more Plain Jane kind of pics ... blue jeans, more casual settings and dress, make up not so perfect, and more snap-shot type photos that don't always turn out so spot on. The photos here almost look pro.

I'd even be leary of giving this girl my e-mail address until you've had at least a week of solid and daily correspondence from her. Give her a quick benefit of the doubt through a couple of e-mails on the site but don't get your hopes up.

any girl who is on a dating site, showing " the goods" or a lot of skin, so to speak..... is not going to be too serious or looking for s serious relationship, unless your looking for a short, fun time deal.

as Euforia51 stated, go for a girl who looks normal, normal photos, normal clothes and not a flirt.

i was checking out cupid last night, usually looking to see who i know.  saw a friend, or better to say, a girl i know  on the site. ( same type of photos, showing the goods) she is on my msn and i know which gringos she messes around with  in Medellin. basically, she is a part time prepago but i don't let her know that i know what she does. So i ask her " hows your novio/ friend  James? "   she comes back, " hes not my novio, he my good friend"   i almost started laughing because i know she messes with a few other  gringos in town, but any guy on cupid would have no idea about her history.

moral of the story is, nobody is what they  seem, take your time, go slow  and learn everything you can.

Good advice, Mudd.

Actually, she's very likely exactly what she seems ... like you said, probably not serious and probably at least a part-timer.  Especially since she's in Cartagena.

Yes...I hear you. Thanks. I certainly was NOT looking for anything serious with such a girl.  Figured a coffee upon my first trip to Cartagena would not be such a bad thing.

That said, it's pretty clear she is what she is...and that is a working gal. I have ZERO interest in that and will NOT waste another moment even thinking about her.

I remembered reading from a Russian eBook about how to find a woman.   One of them says  "You are going to marry the girl, not the photo"  (something like that).

Professional studio photos look very flattery, but I would prefer to have some normal photos as well.

I don't even use Facebook, let alone Badoo and the other free social networking sites. They take a lot of time and when you meet someone and invite them to join your page they will see all the other girls you are corresponding with, whether serious or not, and it will create problems. I had one girl in Cartagena who went into a jealous rage and attacked everyone on my Facebook page, even my sister and my cousin. So I don't use the social networking sites at all anymore.
As for the profile you posted, wow, good looking girl, but the others on this thread are right in my opinion, she's trouble with a capital T.
One of my pet peeves in the online sites is the professional, studio pictures or pictures that have been photoshopped. Loveme.com is one example. I can tell you from experience the girls in person are not nearly as attractive as their photos represent.
If you are unhappy change something. Quit your job. Move. Leave your miserable relationship. Stop making excuses. You are in control.

Besides the photo, I see another tipoff that points, I guess, to lack of education:
*The accents are missing. This is common in messages I get from Hispanics here, but in Colombia the keyboard layouts are set up with accents enabled.
*"por su puesto" (for his post/stand) should be "por supuesto" (for supposed, i.e. of course).
*"trabar" I had to look up. It means "connect" or "obstruct", not sure which she meant. The Spanish Wiktionary lists it only as a Galician word for "bite". Maybe she meant "trabajar" (work).
*"mejore" is not an adjective (it's the subjunctive of the verb). It's either "mejor" (singular) or "mejores" (plural).

For the record, I found my little experiement with Badoo a total waste of time.  I read about it somewhere and thought I'd give it a shot.

I am finding Cupid far better...though as others have stated it's not perfect either.  But at least the girls are on there to meet guys for dating or marriage (other than the scammers or gold diggers, etc).

No they aren´t . To get the accent you have to hold down "mayuscala" key and the apostrophy key. This is on many  keyboards purchased in Colombia.

I didn´t look up "trabar" per se but trabajado (ie. ella está trabajada)  means drunk or more likely drugged.

mejores is not a plural. It would be used as: "¡Ojala que mejores!" or "Espero que mejores". Both mean I hope you get better.

In the default keyboard layout in the USA, there is no way to get accented letters at all (or, if you're using Windows, you have to hold down the Alt key and hit some number keys). To get accents, I had to set up my keyboard to use a compose key (the right Alt key). So I hit compose-'-a and get á.

That's a verb form, specifically 2nd person singular subjunctive. ("mejore" is 1st or 3rd singular.) The context "los mejore dias" indicates that an adjective was meant, and as an adjective, "mejores" is plural and "mejore" is an error.
