That Detroit airport is a real dump. It used to be OK, but lately, it's the Jose Cuervo bar or McDonalds. I spent way too many hours there the past dozen years or so.

I explained all of the above to her and made CERTAIN that she has my cell number. Shes going to try to get the Detroit Atlanta leg changed today. If she can't I explained in detail how to go about contacting an agent and getting on another flight. She's kind of freaked out and mad about it but is going to try to get that leg changed. She's mad because the "travel agent should have (sic) knowed about needing more time." :D

I think a lot of travel agents don't actually travel that much...   ::)

Ha ha--stranger things have happened. Two things sure to make a good Filipina unhappy: 1) She prepares a meal (heck--sits down for left over pizza, etc) and you don't eat together. 2) She's ready for bed--is in bed and you're not...

I HAVE to learn Tagalog because Cris's mother says that Cris talks in her sleep. What fun would it be if I didn't understand what she was saying and wasn't able to tease her about what she says when shes asleep? :D

Her laptop has a virus and she can't get on line at home so I'm waiting for her to get to the internet cafe and let me know if she got her reservations changed. I did a search here and found a Delta flight leaving 1:45 later in the day from Detroit. I gave her the flight number so she could request her ticket be change to that flight. That will give her 3:15 in Detroit to make her connection so hopefully she'll have it changed and that will be plenty of time between flights.

Bill- tell her to go to Malwarebytes.org and download the free scanner. Install it and run the updates, then do a full scan.  ;)

That one doesn't run in the background, but it's free and you can update it and run it as often as you want to!  :D  And it works well, too! I use it in addition to my regular (paid) McAfee antivirus.

Good advice but she need to go online to do that & currently she cannot go online.

Have her go online at the cafe & download the program on a USB drive and then insert the drive to run the program (s) to get rid of the virus.

Remember, she cannot go online to run updates so while she is at the cafe have her download (via Download.com) a few free programs on the usb - one of the programs will get rid of the virus & then she can install whatever virus protection program she wants.

Currently I use Advast & Microsoft Security Essential.
I also have Mcafee, Nortons, ZoneAlarm Extreme Security, Kaspersky & Panda - I either disable or install them & will use them when/if needed.

There is NO best program - the key is having a combination of programing running that will not interfere with each other.

It bears pointing out that you do NOT want to install a new, different brand anti virus program on a computer that already has one on it, whether the computer is running or not.

It usually leads to bigger problems, such as the computer running slow as syrup or completely freezing up.

In my not so extensive experience, you need to uninstall the computer's existing anti virus completely, then shut the computer down cold (I even temporally disconnect the electricity after) and then restart it and then thoroughly check when it restarts in control panel, programs, etc to make sure it's ALL gone.

Then install the one you want. I like download.com as long as people don't get too click happy and install too many 'cool' looking things, as is very easy to do. It's a great site and resource, but too many of their programs aren't what they're cracked up to be, may be short time trials that are free at first, are watered down versions and/or hard to completely remove from your computer.

I have found Norton, especially it's 'System Works' to be a huge, unnecessary resource hog. Macafee's antivirus seems better to me--and I think Norton and Macafee were once mainstays that've lost their lead, but I like free Avast from download.com. Free AVG--can get from download.com also is decent from personal experience and last time I was in the Philippines, seemed to be used in most internet cafes we went to.
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

Once you have one virus protection program installed & you installed another one without first installing the first one - you will have a conflict.
It is best to have two programs that compliments each other & not conflict with each other.

As mentioned Norton & a few other programs are resource hogs - the slow down you computer tremendously. Tere are a lot of "resources" in these programs that you do not need but people install them thinking that they need them. Remember the more you install the slower your computer will run.

I have both Advast & MSE on my computer - they compliment each other. The both run in the background, provides real time protection/shields, auto updates & I have them both set up to do a fast scan on alternate days and a complete scan once a week.

Ahya sister have either AVG, Advast or Kasp together with MSE on the computers in the cafe.

If you heard it from 'The Kfc' on technology,--whether it's computers, smart phones, software, game platforms etc, you can pretty much 'take it to the bank'. The guy amazes me!

And unlike my posts, you don't need a pair of reading glasses after reading his posts!! ;) :D

Nothing is immune to a virus.
It is just that Windows/Microsoft OS (s) is a bigger target than the Mac OS....and more importantly more money in the cure for Windows OS than Mac OS - the key more money in the cure.

I have seen people Mac OS that were hit & completely destroyed - you have just been lucky.......so far.  ;D

I installed this based on your recommendation. I ran the quick scan, and it found a virus and removed it.

I tried to run the full scan, but the expired trial version of Norton popped up.  When I closed it, the Malwarebytes.org had locked up!

I will try it again tonight.

I have never been able to get completely rid of the trial software that came on the computer new.  I hate that stuff.

Do this:
1. Download the free edition of either Advast, AVG, Zone Alarm or Kaspersky on the laptop/USB.
2. Go to your control panel & uninstall both Norton & Malwarebytes.
3. Reboot.
4. Install one of the free antivirus software you previously downloaded.
5. Get the updates - it may do that automatically.
6, If your OS is Window's based - install Microsoft Security Essential.
7. Remember do not browse online until you have installed all anti-virus program (s) & run a scan.

2. Go to your control panel & uninstall both Norton & Malwarebytes.
In your Control Panel, there is an Add/Remove Programs icon if you have Windows XP.  There will be some equivalent in Vista or 7.  Double click and wait and wait and wait.  It takes a while for the system to find all the programs and their associated uninstall programs.  Be patient for the list to populate.
