another friend robbed in medellin, in his car.
« on: December 04, 2010, 10:35:40 AM »
received this, this morning from my friend who  lives in medellin, for about 4 years.

Two dudes on a motorcycle armed with a 9mm Baretta pulled up next to my car and pulled the gun to Robin's head demanding money, his watch and gold chain. Robin pleaded with the dude which gave me the opportunity to through the car in reverse. The dude got off the moto and chased after us trying to get a good shot but I was meandering the car and he was unable to do anything. I gunned the car drivinh down a one way street hit a couple of cars but managed to get to my Apt. My car is f..ucked up will cost about $6M-$7m to repair. This happened on Dec 2, at about 3:00 pm in Poblado around the clinica the medellin. I saw our lives just flash by its very dangerous here especially at this time of the year

And all second hand at that.

My friend's ex father-in-law murdered him the other day because he divorced his daughter and it disgraced the family...I live in a small, beach community with virtually no crime...it can happen anywhere..true story and first hand.

hate to be so negative all the time, but the reason i post it, is because most guys are too afraid to say anything about what  goes on there, everybody would want you to think, " oh, its a great place, safe, no crime, friendly people, never had a problem, bring your family and children"

even the agencies and real estate office paint Medellin as " the perfect place" and if it helps some uninformed guy, than I'm happy.

so,  JimD ,Kontra, post what goes on there, good or bad. i don't see you posting much

Listen to this guy...Have you noticed his stories always comes from a "friend" that knows a "friend"...It's never first hand Information. And every time someone gets robbed they are always guys on motorcycles..Dude you have to stop watching so many movies..because you are actually starting to believe your own stories mudd. I've also noticed that you also tried to post the same stories on other blogs. But the funny thing is allot of people that are on this site have

not been to Colombia so they believe what you say, but on other sites we know that you are lying because you use the same fantasy in every story..heck on another website you even said you got robbed by 2 guy on motorcycles in the 90"s...WOW!!!! EVERYBODY PLEASE READ HIS OPENING POST AGAIN...It's sound like a scene from a movie..can any body guess which one?

I hate to say this but it usually is two guys on a moto. In fact, at times they have banned people from riding two to a moto for this very reason.

Mudd it´s Luz Amparo. Maybe you have a licence to vent but if I posted what you post the owner of this forum would quickly send my posts to "off topic" or worse. Anybody who wants regular crime updates needs only open the website for El Colombiano (Medellin) or El Pais (Cali) and open the "justicia" section. As for crimes against Americans in Cali I´ve really heard of very few. Most have been muggings of guys wandering around drunk on Avenida Sexta late at night. There was that hit on Robert Vignola a couple of years ago which was hardly spontanious and there was a professor, expert on bats who was killed after taking money out of an ATM in the south, probobly Unicentro. I can´t think of any others off hand and this is going back years. The only close call I´ve ever had was years ago when I went over the Western Cordillera from a village in the mountains above Tuluá (two hours north of Cali) in a Willys with a friend and near the border with Chocó Department three guys on the side of the road with big gunnysacks wanted to get on. We let them and after a few minutes the driver gave us a look and my friend said don´t speak! I don´t want them to hear your gringo accent. At the end of the road where the foot trails began they invited us to walk with them along the lower trail to see birds and monkeys etc. We said you go ahead we´re not ready to leave yet. When they took off down their trail we headed up an uphill one. The driver told us those guys were FARC. They´d just been in the village buying the "remesa" (food supply) so they were in civies and couldn´t carry guns. On our hike up the uphill trail we saw great birds, poison arrow frogs and orchids and I´m here to tell about it.

sorry, i try to not remember her name, too many bad memories with that lady and with that other cali lady Margareth,Margaroth, whatever her name was, ughhhhh :-[

well, i doubt most newbies on here even know about El Pais or El Colombiano, but maybe they do now.

my 1st trip to Cali, was robbed in a taxi with another gringo, why i went back after that, still don't know, family thought i was nuts.
3 months later, was up in the hills of Cali, novia's family decided to take us  to a nice dinner at some exclusive restaurant. was the 1st time i saw a monkey and parrot in the wild, was pretty cool. 2 weeks later after returning.my  fiancee tells me that the restaurant that we went to, 7 days later, same day, Saturday, and around same time, Farc came into the restaurant and kidnapped several people.

don't know if they would have bothered with me, no  idea, but still freaked me out.

2 years later, in Bogota,  was in a restaurant/ disco with gf and friends. same thing, a week later, Farc or some other group, threw  a grenade into the same restaurant/ disco and killed 3 people. missed it by a week. dont know if its just dumb luck, or if im just stupid for going back jajajaja.

about any person who has been traveling to Colombia for 10 years or so has some sort of history or story, goes with the country

Mudd that´s ok. Do you remember or did you hear about the time five guys were sitting around Luz Amparo´s with the door unlocked about ten pm and bad guys came in and tied them up and stole everything? I met one of the guys at the airport the next morning. He  had nothing but his ticket and passport.

Margareth Majorca...yuck!

That incident you referred to in Cali was at Kilometer 18 where there are lots of weekend restaurants. It wasn´t the FARC but the ELN that carried out the massive kidnapping. I doctor I´ve used was among the kisnapped but they let him go because he was too old hike long distances. Thank god those days are over...at least for now. At the moment the mud (no pun intended) is more dangerous than the guerrilla.

yeah, wow, forgot about that, heard it through the grapevine back then. wow, the good old days of Cali, when u just didn't know what was going to happen, sort of like Medellin now.

i remember my friend Alcira who was the secretary of Margareth, they were also robbed by a foreigner and local, came in, acting like prospective clients, pulled out a gun and proceded to rob everybody, Margareth ran for the bathroom and locked the door while everybody was robbed jajaja.

The guy i was with when we were robbed in a taxi, when we were at ed beckwiths place. he had traveler's checks, because back then, most US ATM cards wouldNT work in Colombia.
so we went to the only bank in Cali that would accept them.
10 minutes later, we were robbed by 2 guys on a moto.  the stupid part was, the guy who i was with, was carrying a fanny pack, with his credit cards, traveler's checks, passport, and why, i don't know, his airline tickets. he lost everything.
when we got back to the house, everybody pulled our $$$ together and raised a few 100 bucks, so he could go to Bogota to get a new passport. sad part was, American airlines lost his luggage, and he didn't have any clothes for 3 days, and then he gets robbed, really felt sorry for the guy.  he never want back to Colombia.

now, medellin seems like the cali of the old days

Let's put it in perspective, shall we? The violence in Medellin today is a fraction of what it was back in the good old days. And it's not like Cali is a walk in the park - it is still about as violent as Medellin is now. The problem is Medellin, thanks to Don Berna, who has since been extradited, went through a period of comparative tranquility recently. So even though things have deteriorated they are still better than they were a decade ago but not as good as they could were a few years ago.

as i remember, Cali was never as bad as Medellin was," back in the good old days", people were so scared, they wouldn't venture out at night, hence the reason Medellin was the last big city that gringos ventured into. was just too dangerous and paisas didn't really care for gringos. i met a friend of a friend several years ago who  was a pilot and was flying into  Medellin way before any of us  were in Medellin, wow, did he have some stores. i agree, 2 to 5 years ago, Medellin was a lot safer. haven't been to Cali in many years, so cant say what the city is like now.

hahah nope,  in colombia, most are older than me, and are the typical gringo, 45 to 60. except for a few younger guys. most are either retired govt or business owners, either here in USA or in colombia or south america.

Hmm....Intersting.... I'm still finding it hard to believe what you are saying Mudd in relations to the crime..I am a 30 year old African-American Male who lived in project housing in Dallas, Texas, USA for the first 25 years of my life. I've seen people "FIRST-HAND" getting shot, robbed, killed, etc... So believe me I know what crime Is sir. Even though I do Lived in El Poblado area for the past 2 1/2 years, Allot of the women that I do date here live in very poor barrios. And I have never been robbed or had any problems with anyone. Now I'm not saying that these poor barrios are not dangerous but the same rules apply here as they do growing up in the hoods (or the ghetto's in America) and that is if you don't fu*k with anybody and cause problems you won't have any problems......oh and by the way...

Mudd you also said that your girlfriends family was robbed at the perimeter mall on another board..and you may can get away with that story on this board because 99 percent of the people on this board DO NOT LIVE HERE. But everybody who lives here and who has been to that mall know that That place has a Army Base right behind and extremely tight security within a 10 block radius. So she may have been a little drunk when she told you that story...maybe she needed money from you who knows....

As a matter of fact I remember going to that mall about 8 months ago with some friends who were here visiting me from my old hood in America ...on our way to that mall when one of my boys seen all of the military guys as well as all the private security his exact words was......"Damn bro!....you can't get away with sh*t up in here...This security is just as about as tight as the White house."

Also the military did not clear out of the city just because Uribe is no longer the president and any body who has a motor cycle has to wear a jacket with a license number...

As for me I really don't like to post since this board has been dead for a couple of years IMO. But guys don't be afraid to come down here the people are really nice and it's a great place to visit  Don't let come guys scare you with 2nd and 3rd hand information.....you will miss out ...

My ex-novia once told me that she was robbed on her way to pay $320,000 for water bills, but I did not believe her story, because it doesn't make any sense.   Her story changed, and I caught her in Facebook during the time shortly after when she was supposed to be 'robbed'.   I had to give her the money .......

Before that, she told me that she was never robbed, etc ....

Few months later, a friend of her friend told me that she wasn't robbed when she had the black eye.  She was hit by her "lover" because she told him that she has a boyfriend (me) lol.

Well, serve her right.  I hope it is worth the $320,000 for her black eye !!

sorry to burst your bubble,  but my novias family is loaded, live in Rio Negro, own  property, bisinesses, show horses, cows, and one big, huge finca with pool jacuzzi, disco room,  8 horses, parrots, monkeys, tennis court, basketball court, big game room with pool table, air hockey, big screen with x box, Wii, pinball macheine, you name it, this place has it, and it sleeps 18 people.

even i was shocked by the size and all the krap they have. nobody gets in, unless your invited and ht family approves you. i cant even bring friends, because her family said no, too dangerous. security cameras everywhere, its ridiculous.  you should see the parties though, incredible. her uncles sons 1 year b-day party a few weeks ago, blew around $ 10,000 just on food and decorations. i thought it was a total waste of $$$$. so she doesn't need any $$ from me, and she invited me to go on vacation with her family next year to Miami for 10 days and then on some Caribbean cruise for 7 days.  not that I'm bragging, but their are some really rich people in Medellin that you wouldn't expect.

and i have never caught her in a lie, so when she tells me that her family was robbed, i believe her,she has no reason to lie, and she has never asked me for $$ or any sort of presents.
