i have a friend named Yeni in Medellin. we were having lunch on my last tip, just talking about life, family, usual things. somehow we got on the subject of violence in Medellin and how many of the killings are never reported or make it to the newspapers or tv.
she tells me about her own personal stories on this. Her cousin was murdered 2 years ago because he was dating some other guys girlfriend and didn't know it and the boyfriend found out about it and shot him. should have shot the novia also jajajaj, just kidding. sad but true.
then, she tells me about how she was in her neighborhood about 6 months ago, at a corner ice cream shop, talking to a school friend of hers, they were just eating an ice cream, talking for about 30 minutes, she finished and had to go home for something, told him she would return in about 30 minutes. When she came back, their were a lot of people standing around the same shop and some police.So she goes up and asks what going on, the lady behind the counter tells her, "10 minutes after you left, your friend was killed by some guy who walked up and shot him. I think he was waiting for you to leave so he could kill him"
lots of people in Medellin have a story like this, its just life there and life is cheap.
