May be the best and safest bet, real estate with rental space. Have a cash flow to stay ahead of what could happen to the dollar. And plant an avocado tree to enhance the property value.

true about the avocado tree...but this house has 9 heavily producing guava trees instead...wife loves them...me I would have preferred avocados.

Fathertime!

Guava trees are very messy little devils, much more so than avacados.

I had a guava tree for many years and it was full of bugs. Natural predetors will control most of the white flies and aphids IF you can keep the ants out of the tree (the ants will protect the sucking insects). I used tanglefoot goop but those argentina ants always found a way to bypass it, even sacrificing their own little bodies to build a bridge over the tanglefoot.

After many years, there were Guava roots running 20-25 feet throughout my yard and suckers were popping up all along the roots. What a mess.

It took a few years to completely eradicate that sucker even after cutting it down. No more guavas for me!

Bozo!   hehe I used tanglefoot for my corn when the ants were trying to herd the aphids  in the tassles...yeah they build a bridge of dead bodies and somehow find their way up maybe they even parachute using my house as a launchpad
....i'm stuck with the guavas for now...they taste ok...but yeah avocados or pomegranates would have been better...

Takes some TLC, but we're doing pretty good with lemon and lime 'trees'. The lime tree has some wicked thorns, that's for sure, and like the lemon, they love fertilizer. Oranges are doing really well too, but we're running out of room, unless I want to take the axe to the Crepe Myrtles... ::)
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!
