AOL News Surge Desk (Sept. 21) -- As Congress prepares to re-initiate the stalled immigration reform debate this week, one very personal immigration issue looks poised to hit the president close to home.

President Barack Obama's aunt, Zeituni Onyango, says she's done nothing wrong by illegally living in the United States for years and is therefore deserving of amnesty.

"If I come as an immigrant, you have the obligation to make me a citizen," Onyango, 58, told Boston's WBZ news.

In her first interview since Obama was elected president, Onyango described how she came to America in 2000 from her native Kenya, fell ill and was hospitalized. Upon her release, Onyango told WBZ, she was out of money. So rather than return to her homeland, she continued to live in the country in violation of immigration laws.

After stints in a Boston homeless shelter, Onyango was eventually put in public housing and began receiving disability payments. In 2004, an immigration judge ordered her to leave the country, but Onyango remained. However, she noted that her story was less about intentionally flouting federal immigration policy and more about its ineffectiveness.

"I didn't take advantage of the system," Onyango said. "The system took advantage of me."

Onyango says that she received no help from Obama as her case was reviewed by Judge Leonard Shapiro, who ruled in May that Onyango could remain in the United States."

    Just another example of the stupidity that is being allowed to happen here in the US.The citizens of this country should have already rose up on this issue alone.Today I saw only part of Colbert's testimony on this issue.I like his comedy but couldn't watch the whole thing.I can't believe there is even a debate about it.I wonder if I told the government that they were obligated to make my wife,her family and anyone who wanted to come here citizens if they would do it.Why not? It makes just as much sense as the rest of the garbage these pro amnesty idiots spew forth.

Given the pussified media, I guess I’m not surprised that Obozo is not taking more heat on this one.  I mean it is HIS aunt. It seems to me that some members of the press should be pressing the issue with him and asking what the hell he is he saying to his own damn family members being here illegally.  If we were to follow his example we would facilitate every relative from the old country to come here in stay.  It seems to me the President of the US should take a stand against her being here illegally, if he expects anybody else to follow this law, or any other. 

Now for all you racist complainers on this thread, you need to get back to work and help support her.  Afterall it isn’t her fault that she stayed her illegally after being denied asylum and it isn’t her fault that she is on public assistance and free housing after never contributing one wooden nickel into the system.  You guys just need to shut up and keep writing her a check every week and I think we should let several million more of these worthless leeches in because we have plenty of money and our welfare system needs more people on it.  So just keep working and paying (but don’t you dare breed until you have saved up enough money to put Jr. through college.) you cruel racist suckers.

She was already granted asylum by an immigration judge so she is allowed to remain. She will file for LPR status after one year. End of story. This case is already old news.

I gave the flag to my next door neighbor...now she is the last US Citizen. We were the only two to fly American flags for miles around...but there were always plenty of foreign flags flying! She is waiting for her government retirement before she gets the hell out of the third world AKA Miami. I was there 41 years. It wasn't bad until the  mid-70's. I knew things were getting bad then when I couldn't get hired on the fire department for 3 more years because minority quotas had to be filled first! It didn't do me any good that I spoke Spanish.

It may be interesting to visit...but living in the third within the continental US is a nightmare! People living in isolated, peaceful areas not yet filled with "illegal alien undocumented democrats" and "legal Republican immigrants" beware...your nice life is about to change...and not for better! Cubans are only one group...others are catching up muy rapido!


I may go live in Cuba since it must be about empty by now!

Seems that everyone out there knows that the USA is 'The land of the 'free'!

But we've even gone beyond that! They're entitled to credit in advance for food and lodging costs too!

And there's plenty of places that food stamps and vouchers intended for milk and pampers, can be exchanged for cigarettes and liquor.

Meanwhile, my wife's parents coming over here would not only cost us dearly in USCIS fees and airfare alone--but if they got sick and had to spend a weekend in the hospital with their various ailments and with their various heart, prostate and other concerns, it's very real possibility, the cost that alone would probably cause us to lose our house and if the ER staff saw my white ass with them, I bet they'd tend to the illegal Mexican peach and pecan pickers first, because unlike my in-laws, they can't (or pretend not to able to) speak English and need the 'extra attention'.
