Medellin anyone? Women of Medellin?
« on: September 23, 2010, 11:26:22 PM »
Ok here I am again (yes again!). LOL. Having traveled good number of times to Colombia (Cali, Manizales, Pereira, Cartagena) I decided to look at Medelling. I kind of like paisas. I am quite self sufficient and, although I have used agencies in the long past, dont find any need for them anymore. That being said I went to the agencies' websites to look at the offerings in Medellin. Well what strikes me is that Medelling appears to have older clientele. I recall Cali’s agencies were always awash with sardinitas. Also I was told that women of big cities (Bogota, Medellin) exhibit different character. Can anyone comment on that?

If there is anyone who can compare women from Medelling vs other Colombian cities I would appreciate his thoughts.

Also for those who traveled to Medellin any advice on places to stay (hotels only, no apartments), any good neighborhoods, places to avoid… any info is appreciated.

Oh yeah and if anyone needs intel on Cali, Manizales or Pereira just ask away…

this has been talked to death, search archives on Medellin, but if you have looked in all those cities, and haven't found anybody, then your not going to find krap in Medellin. Medellin,  probably is the worst city in Colombia to look for a  serious girl. if your looking for fun, " pay for play"  then Medellin is probably at the top of the list.

ouch... and I thought Medellin was theee city. I really liked smaller places like Manizales and Pereira.

Anyway to Rocket;  Pereira is good! Slightly larger than Manizales and a lot more happening. Everything is nearby, taxis are cheap. I stayed at the hotel Castilla Real (which I recommend) but it is pricey ($75 or so). It is close to everything but slightly away from the center (that is busy and less attractive). Climate is warmer than Manizales but colder than Cali. It is pretty warm day and night though.

There is not much to do in Pereira (1 Zoo, 1 Bowling alley and that is about it). Meeting ladies is best at the mall of course. Victoria Plaza is right across the street from Castilla Real and is very popular destination.

Not much is happening in the evenings as well. The city dies after 8pm. Line up your dates in advance.

I disagree so completely. I have always been amazed at the number of relatively young widows in Medellin - I think I could find a good wife at least once a week there. The problem is so many guys are like Leisure Suit Larry looking for love in all the wrong places. Those guys are going to get taken to the cleaners by the enterprising paisas. I mean let's face it, if you spend all your time in Mangos or Parque Lleras looking for a serious girl, you deserve everything that happens to you.

I have to agree with UC, my experiences in Medellin have always been positive, I love the city and the people and can't wait to return in a few weeks. Medellin always gets a bad rap on this board, some of it no doubt deserved, but as UC said, avoid mangos, Parque Lleras and other similar places, you can have a wonderful time there and meet some quality women.

Lighten up on the guy...sounds to me like he is just enjoying travelling and going out with women.

Might seem strange to wife hunters but most normal guys like to meet women and even sleep with them even if they aren't interested in marriage. jajaja!!!

If i were you I'd be much more concerned about the guy that joined a number of online dating sites and couldn't even get a date. LOL!!!

Everytime Crow says wife-hunter. I imagine a bloated gringo clad in a loin cloth, war paint, and sharpened spear in hand, dragging some poor latina babe along the rocky ground by her raven hair.

I gotta agree with his point though, it appears the man is enjoying his single hood, no harm in doing that.  I know how that would be a tempting lifestyle for a while or maybe a lifetime for others.

I don't seek credit for many things, yet "Wife Hunter" is a term I would like to coin - it implies so very much, and accurately too!

hehe zon,

I didn't know that you brought the term 'wife hunter' to the forum, but if so, then I think you deserve the credit!  If you like you can also have image of these men clandestinely creeping around clad in their skimpy loin cloths with spear always at the ready.

Just got back from Medellin - about 3 hours ago...... (I am from UK).

It is not difficult to look for the right paisa.  Many men spend too much time, looking for the wrong paisa.  I am very happy with my beautiful Paisa.   My girlfriend isn't a materialistic like many of the paisas which they met!

My first thought, too.  She looks like a sweetie, but who's that grinning chump next to her?  ;)  ;D

Gato tell us more of your trip. In what barrio did you stay? How did you meet your girl? What does she do? How old? Hope you do a trip report soon if you have not already.

I am looking at Medellin as a place to retire. Seems like perfect weather and a lot more things to do than the coast.

Perfect weather???  It rained most of the days!! lol  Perfect weather in terms of hot or cold - yes!

I will try to make a trip report soon.

She is from Pedregal area - north west.   I met her via ColombianCupid more than 9 months ago

She does not have a proper job at the moment, but she is making necklaces/earrings etc for her cousin's business.  It does not pay very much but it helps with food and bills.  She also paints religious ornaments - for example 'The Last Supper'.  I got one for my birthday and she painted it beautifully.  She lives with her 2 children in her mother's house which does not need rent.  Paid off already.   She is 30 and her 2 children are: 13 and 6.

I wouldn't mind living in the Pedregal area - but definitely not in San Javier or Manrique!!
