Former Police Officer hijack bus to get job back
« on: August 23, 2010, 04:54:40 AM »
An ex-police officer hijack a bus in Manila (filled with HK tourist) - to get his job back.
He was previously honored as one of the top 10 police officers in the country but was later fired for his alleged involvement in drug-related crimes and extortion,

Do this guy honestly believe after this he will truly get his job back?  ::)

Yes...He was probably high on shabu! One of the likely reasons that he is no longer a police officer!

What a clusterfuch! Typical Philippine SNAFU! A few more hours and a dozen more sledge hammers to replace the ones that went inside and all the windows in the bus may be broken out.  ::) I hope they don't accidentally  set the bus on fire with stun grenades! All they need is a few more spectators!  If the hostage taker was still alive...he would probably be shooting at all of the people standing outside the bus! Hopefully they will free the hostages before they all bleed to death or get shot by another volley of police gunfire!

I was on a SWAT Team..."Swat Medic." Fortunately, they never left me anything of the "bad guys" to work with!  ::)  All I ever seemed to do was put bandaids on their boo boos. ;D  I always advocate being self-reliant (even in the US)! Police are usually best at writing reports after the incident. Fire departments arrive after the fire has begun. Am I the only one that carries a window punch or other tool to break glass and get out of a bus or building in case of an event like this or a fire? I determine the locations of the best fire exits at my hotel and count the steps to them. I usually don't stay above the 7th floor, above which is usually out of reach (with good access to the building) by most fire department ladder trucks and platforms. I refuse to be one of the sheeple!

Police are inside at last! It's great to see a few survivors coming off the bus! This may be a miracle!

I was just chatting with my wife - they were watching the standoff live. Her niece told me that 7 hostages were killed. They are not sure if that is true.

One thing I want to ask.

Is this good hostage negotiation?

There are hostages taken, the medias are right there broadcasting everything - including the police movements outside. There are TVs onboard the hijack bus & the hijacker & hostages are seeing everything that is going on outside.

Dave...No, you're not the only one.

But the "average" person (especially in America) has the situational awareness and self-reliance capabilities of a strawberry.  They CAN tell you however, who's who on American Idle (sic).

The "Blame Game"  has begun! The bus driver who escaped is currently facing the most heat for supposedly triggering the police assault by allegedly saying that all the hostages were dead. (They are NOT supposed to rely solely on witness accounts!) The policeman brother of the hostage taker is quickly moving up for allegedly enraging him, causing him taker to fire on passengers. I think he may have now been arrested. The media is getting their heat! (They usually deserve it!) Who's next?

Somebody could probably make money teaching the police proper tool usage and how to gain access to a bus quickly? Do they even have any snippers on their SWAT Team? A full assault with "Armalites" (M16's) and shooting the bus full of holes is so much more dramatic...Bonnie and Clyde like! I wonder how many passengers were actually killed by bullets from "The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight?"

TAD

Hey TAD,

I always wondered what Latin Americans did in their countries? Most that I have encountered over the years are much worse than the average American! I used to get at least one "nightmare" call after midnight on every shift. "AYE AYE AYE AYE..." Guys who are marrying Latinas better learn their illnesses!  ;D Here are some of the ones that I remember...terms very by country and region. "No Aire" "Ataque Corazon" "Ataque de Nervios" " Empacho" "Mal de Ojo" "Mucho Fatiga"  "Destemplanza" "Patatú" "Sereno"n"Caida de Mollera" "Pasmo" "Chochera" "Punzada de Guajiro" "Moño Virado" "Dolor en mi Rabadilla" "Luz de Luna" "Frio de la matriz" and on and on....

They will need to know the correct saints, faith healers, herbs, spells, potions, charms and jewelry to cure these illnesses. Maybe I should move back to Miami so I can ship this stuff to guys living throughout the US with their Latina wives.  ;D Some of my favorite potions are "Agua de Cucarachas", "Anís Estrella", "Toques De Violeta," menthol rubbing alcohol, Azarcón/Greta, Una de Gato and garra del diablo. Others will come to me...

I just finished watching  clips. There were times that you can see the ex-cop with his gun away from the hostages (pointed to the ceiling but not sure if his hand was on the trigger), a sniper could have taken this guy.

The PNP now claims that a police sniper took him out with a bullet to the head around 9 PM. I wonder why they waited so long...one of "their own"?

As one of their own, he gets a freebie limit.  Had to wait till he exceeded it before they can be authorized to take action.

Still at 9 hostages dead and the gunman. I saw 3 passengers being led off of the bus with what appeared to be only minor physical injuries. Probably around 3 more still alive, carried off on stretchers. The news switched to regular programing shortly after the 3 were led off the bus.

8 Chinese Fatalities have been identified. I am not sure, but perhaps the 9th is a Filipino.

CHINESE FATALITIES
The Manila Police District (MPD) has so far identified eight tourists from Hong Kong who died on Monday's bloody hostage crisis in Manila:

Manila Doctors Hospital
1. Tse Ting Chung Masa, between 30 and 35 years old;
2. Fu Cheuk Yan, 39;
3. Leung Songyi, 16, alias 'Jessie;' and
4. Leung Yee Kam, 46.

Ospital ng Maynila (OSMA)
5. Keon Lung, between 40 and 45 year old;
6. Yeung Yee Wa , 45.

Philippine General Hospital (PGH)
7. Wong Tze Lam, 50.

San Juan De Dios Hospital
8. Leung Chung See, 20, alias 'Doris'.

At least Hong Kong will do a thorough investigation and put blame where it is really due!

Although others inside the Philippines have taken notice...probably because it involved foreign tourists!

Now there is a "fake" letter circulating around the internet from someone claiming to be one of the survivors. Here is the letter:

Postcripts To A BloodBath

Mr. Mendoza was already upset even before he saw on television what the policemen did to his brother. The other tourists who remained inside the bus were complaining. Wei Ji Jiang wanted to go to the bathroom. Dao Chi Yu was hungry and the rest were just groaning and whining like they have forgotten that our lives rest in Mr. Mendoza’s hands.

The hostage taker, as you know him was really nice. He treated us okay and even let the elders and the children leave the bus. He said your policemen treated him unfairly. He was a policeman too and was accused of doing something he had no knowledge of. But your government didn’t listen so he used us to get everyone’s attention.

Things would have never turned for the worst if he didn’t see how his family was dragged out of their house and taken into custody. He was watching the news all the time as we huddled around each other behind the bus. He shouted some words in your language then started shooting in the air. A girl about my age started screaming. Mr. Mendoza demanded her to stop but she didn’t understand English. God, he had to slash her neck with a knife just to put her to rest. Her boyfriend who tried to hit him was shot in the head.

Tension was rising. You can see in his face how scared and confused he was. The bus driver ran away leaving him alone with strangers from a distant land. I can see him walking across the aisle, sometimes pointing his machine gun to one of the tourists. But he tried his best not to hurt us, especially those who really cooperate.

I guess its in your nature not to inflict pain on others unless it was necessary. I remember him saying that he will free us before sundown and implored us to forget everything when we return home. But his words don’t matter now. The policemen were trying to force their way in, while we all lied down to shield ourselves from bullets. Mister Mendoza blindly shoots at his enemies which I think kept them from rescuing us. I hear sobs under the chairs. Some were even shouting the names of their loved ones even when the air merely eat their words. Kevin Tang tried to escape when the glass door was was shattered, but one shot and he slumped on the floor with blood gushing from his mouth.

Heavy rain pitter-pattered on the rooftop. In old Chinese saying, it means an end to a struggle. Finally, somebody was able to open the escape hatch at the back of the bus. Freedom. But I knew Mister Mendoza was still alive. I knew he was just waiting for a chance to strike back at his enemies. So I told those around me not to escape. Let the authorities come for us instead. Then there was gunfire. He was firing at his enemies with a machine gun. Those who were at the escape hatch fled abandoning us once again. It’s like a nightmare with no end and to wake up means a certain death. Then somebody from outside the bus threw a canister. It forced out a black smoke that is so painful to the eyes and putrid smelling to the nose. People started screaming. We cannot breathe. Some ran in front of the bus but Mister Mendoza warned them of stray bullets. It was too late. One was hit on the head, the other was hit on the shoulders. Bullets were now flying. Its like the authorities thought we were all dead. Mister Mendoza finally admits his mistake and said sorry to everyone, dead or alive. He then ran towards the front of the bus where he would meet his maker. As he passed by my chair with bullets whistling overhead, I clutched my hand on the velvet curtain and wrapped it around my face. All I could think of was to stay alive – for my child who is waiting for me back in Xinjang.

I know I will survive,

I will come home.

Now HK/International superstar Jackie Chan is drawing heat for comments he made on Tweeter.

He said  "That the Philippine police faced a tough dilemma. If they killed the guy sooner, they will say why not negotiate first? If they negotiate first, they ask why not kill the guy sooner? So sad,"

He also urged Hong Kongers not to direct their anger at Filipinos living in Hong Kong. Tens of thousands of Filipinos work as live-in domestic helpers for Hong Kong families.

Because of these comments, he is drawing the fury of some HK people.

One woman wrote back: "Shut up! Hong Kong people don't need you. You side with outsiders and not your own. You will face karmic retribution for your disrespect for the victims,"  ::)
