I-512L Authorization for Parole Approved
« on: March 15, 2010, 05:25:10 PM »
Hello,

We received the I-512L and my wife's parole was approved which is superb.

My question is:  Is she allowed to use this for multiple trips.  We have our little delayed honeymoon cruise coming up shortly and I also think she would like to see her family later this year.

How does this process work exactly?

Thanks,
Fathertime!

I would just becareful with it only because there is a time limit for how long she can stay out of the states with it and I think there is a max number of trips also. It should not be a problem for a cruise

FT,

I’m not sure exactly how it works, but my understanding is that the Advance Parole is only good for one entry.

However, I believe that it can be renewed (for a fee).

My advice would be to not travel abroad while waiting for Adjustment of Status unless it’s an emergency or something very important. It’s better to wait for the Green Card approval to be safe. Remember that the Advance Parole doesn’t guarantee that she will be admitted.

But you probably will not have any trouble with using it for the honeymoon cruise though.

Advanced Parole can be used for multiple entries - immigration does not take it away when you reenter the US, plus your wife will actually receive 2 separate copies of the Advanced Parole document just in case one is lost, etc.

The one thing that you will need to check on though is whether or not the countries in which the ship will be calling upon require that a Colombian citizen have a visa for entry. Canada, Mexico and most of the Caribbean Islands allow permanent residents of the US (green card holders) to enter without a visa but since your wife may not have her green card before your cruise then this will not apply and she will be subject to the regular visa requirements for a Colombian citizen. If your AOS interview is scheduled before your cruise though and they make a determination to grant your wife permanent residence then you can ask them to go ahead and put a I-551 stamp in her passport at that time - this stamp acts just like a green card.

I'm guessing FT wants to take his better half on a quick honeymoon before she gets too big.  In a couple of months, she's going to be getting morning sickness and won't be feeling all that lovey-dovey and won't want to go out anywhere.  If he's gonna go anywhere, they gotta go ASAP.

Thanks for the responses everybody.
Well I think I liked Capstone's answer best! :D

Yes Bob it would be best to take the honeymoon asap.  To be perfectly earnest, I do have some concern about my woman getting seasick and also being a little nauseous from the pregnancy.  From what I remember, the nauseous feeling usually subsides after a couple months, but I realize it varies.

She would like to travel to see her family before our child is born, so she would be using the 512 for that as well.  Perhaps 10 days in Barranquilla so she can show off her belly and have a little baby shower with her friends.  Whatever she wants to do.
