Fiancee Visa Timelines.....

Has anyone completed a fiancee visa process for their lady within the last year or so? I recently was talking to a guy that said that the visas are being processed super fast these days since a couple years ago they had a ton of the applications backlogged, so they hired new processors, but then with the economic meltdown here, the number of people seeking these visas has plummeted.

I found a website a few days ago and forgot to bookmark it and cannot find it now. It had a spreadsheet with the couple's name along the left column and then how many days it took to get to each step of the process. I thought I saw a couple that got to the interview date in like 95-97 days after receiving the first notice of receiving the packet at the service center!!! Is that possible??? Anyone have any additional info?

I went to the USCIS site and it just states 5 months average processing time. A few years ago it said 6 months, but actually took like 8 1/2. So I was figuring 6 months at this time to be on the safe side.

I also did see that the number of cases has dropped by about 1/3 or more since a couple years ago.

Just a note on K-1 processing times.

Keep in mind that the biggest factor in total time is going to be the country or consulate where the visa is processed. Some may process a visa within a month and some may take 9 months.

The CIS process times are usually fairly consistent, but they have been known to complete an individual petition in a very short time, perhaps because it was pulled out of sequence to use for training purposes.

VisaJourney.com is a good source for actual recent processing times by country.

That's why they are exes! They are bitter and want you to feel how bad they feel. Even if the ex like mine has another man, cannot leave me alone and wants to drag me into her non-stop drama. She has also seen my new lady and has gone through the roof. 24/7 drama and silly arguements over nothing-so nice not to have to deal with all that anymore...
I told her that's what happens when you don't appreciate your man, you get replaced. So now her new man has to hear her bitching about me and I get to snuggle up with my little Latin kitten - Nice!

it took me 5 months and 6 days from the time i sent in my first package to the time she set foot in the us. I used a lawyer i am not sure if that matters or not. I did it 2 years ago...

Processing time can vary not only according to which of the USCIS's five centers it goes to (Vermont's usually fastest), but also according to the efficiencey and workload of who ever's desk it goes on. Different people also differ in just how picky they are about details too. It's not a cut and dry affair.

Visajourney.com does give you more of a ball park guesstimate, and while waiting, misery loves company...

      I found VisaJourney to be the most accurate.The timelines are based on actual cases by country.As far as Colombia I found them to be dead on.
    I also learned alot from what people wrote about the embassy and AOS interviews.

There are some postings here and at other places that have some hilarious and some horrifying stories about emabassy doings and interviews.

Dealing with them is like Forest Gump's box of chocolates--"You never know what you're gonna get" It's probably going to be OK, but there are some doozies out there..

There used to be 4 Service Centers processing fiance petitions, but now all K-1 petitions go to either the California or Vermont Service Centers.

Since you live in Alabama (as do I) you will be sending your K-1 petition to the Vermont Service Center. The Vermont Service Center was a lot slower in processing petitions than the California Service Center was at the time that I submitted mine (Sept 2008) and remained that way for over a year. But it appears as though Vermont has cleared out their backlog in the past couple of months and both service centers appear to be processing petitions in about the same time frame now. Good luck with the process and just remember to have patience because all the waiting can really get annoying at times.

Back when we were doing ours, Texas was overwhelmed and they transferred our Fiance Visa paper work to California.  At that time, Vermont was by far the fastest, followed by Nebraska.

Just goes to show how quickly things can change and how a site VJ.com can probably give the best 'guesstimate', given all the variables.

What's weird is that when ever we want/need to talk to a real, live person, we basically do the OPPOSITE of what the endless phone menu of 'choices' tells us to do. That way, we get a live person a lot faster.

Now that's no guarantee that the 'live person' won't tell you "All I know is what you're seeing on your computer monitor--no more no less" And "Just wait for the mail".....

My favorite memory there was when we knew the NOA II had been issued, but they insisted that it hadn't---that it didn't exist. Yet for a mere $325.00, they would offered to go thru the trouble and make us a copy of the non existing document....
