Man up and eat some broccoli and beans, with some rare sirloin steak and some garlic shrimp. Hmm, that should liven things up a bit, and leave the beano in the cabinet. What fun is that ? ? ?

I got a story to tell but man I just can't do it, LOL

Man, I just found out the sister's wedding in China was about 200,000 rmb (about $29,000 USD). You're a lucky man to get married in Vegas.

A generous lunch and dinner at fine restaurants for hundreds of guests. Then pro wedding photos by the best wedding photographer in the area. I'm sure there are more expenses that I have no clue on. My girl is very humble/cheap/frugal and doesn't want an expensive wedding, but it's certainly something for guys to be aware of.

Clearly the same stuff they smoke in a lot of countries including here. I don't think I'd want to know the cost of some of the weddings I've been to lately. 29k is insane to think of when your significant other is in the Phils or Honduras... but I guess not in China if they have some money and want to flaunt it for family and friends. Keeping up with the Wongs.

Flaunting wealth seems to be popular in China. But ya, could be a lot more in America. My family has very small weddings so I hadn't really thought about it much.

Man, I just found out the sister's wedding in China was about 200,000 rmb (about $29,000 USD). You're a lucky man to get married in Vegas.

Even though we got married in Vegas we are still going to have a wedding banquet in China in February - this is actually pretty normal in that most Chinese couples will get officially married at the government office and then have their wedding banquet some months later. But I have to say that 200,000 rmb is way, way over the top for a wedding in China and not anywhere close to what most people pay.

We already did the wedding photographs the last time that I was in China and paid about $1200 with a top photography studio. That price included an all day (8 hour) photo session in which we visited 3 different locations and had 6 wardrobe changes, the services of a makeup artist and hairdresser for the day, 3 large photo albums, about 10 8x10 photos, 2 large canvas photos plus a CD containing all the pictures that were taken.

We are going to have about 200 people at the banquet at a very nice restaurant and have to pay about 100 rmb a head - or about about $3000. So that comes to about $4200 total for a very nice wedding - not very bad at all IMO, especially considering what it would cost in the US.

And the kicker is that everyone who attends the banquet will give red envelopes filled with money instead of gifts which means that the banquet itself will probably not cost me a dime in the end.

Congrats on your wedding. How did your sweetie like Vegas?

Red envelopes (except in Japan they're gray) - another of the advantages to getting married in Asia - way better than the toasters and chia pet gifts in the US.

Are you planning on posting any of those pictures for us to see?

Hi Jeff,

My wife loved Vegas - except for the heat. She really enjoyed herself and we both had a great time. She said that of all the hotel/casinos, she like The Venetian the best, which as it turned out is where we stayed.

I am in the process of putting together some of my photos from Vegas & China to post, so I will let you know when I do. Thanks for the congratulations.

I have a preference for the Venetian also. Their suites are really nice. The giant tubs are the great part. I had a bad experience at the Bellagio last year. I wrote to the management and they comped me a 2500 sq ft, two bath suite overlooking the fountain for a long weekend, but the damage was done. I've been back to the Venetian since.

Had I been thinking, I'd have sent you to Michaels - best restaurant I've ever eaten at in the US: http://www.southpointcasino.com/dining/michaels-menu.php The entrance used to be tucked back behind the nickle slots in the Barbary Coast but it's moved since.
