I am curious about those personal introduction agencies,
I don't think we have those here, could someone explain me how they work?

I think that there have been some introduction agencies in Mexico before. I think like maybe in Guadalajara , but some guys here had used them in the past. Mostly the introduction agencies are for Latin America, a mostly Colombian entity, but there are some in Peru, Ecuador there is one too and the Dominican Republic. Basically it works  like any other business in that they put the woman in front of the man and they get to know each other to see if there is a connection or not. If the man cannot speak Spanish, they provide a bilingual translator and some have accommodation on site. You can view in the Agency section a good list of most of them and there you can see how they work.

Hi texasmatt,

Welcome to P-L! You've come to the right place! Good luck and ask any questions you have.  From your avatar, it looks like you were just in PR. Did you ever think about searching in Baja California, Mexico?  ::) ::) ::)

Hi Dave and Utopiacowboy,

Thank you for the advice.  That's right Dave the avatar is Puerto Rico.  I have been to the Northern parts of Mexico, such as Matamoros and Reynosa.  I do some work in South Texas.  Would the baja side be better?

I am very new to this.  I have dated hispanic women in Texas, but I really would like to meet a lady from a different culture for all of the reasons mentioned through out this site.

If you were me how would you meet this lady?  On the internet before going down or take a trip and visit certain places?

I noticed that you have been with your wife for greater than 5 years, congrats!

Matt

@Dave H:
lol I would say he didn't take the hint, but let's just say he was a step ahead

@utopiacowboy:
Thank you for your comment, women in Baja California are not famous for their beauty, I believe this is mainly because we don't really have a "type", too much variety, so of course if a guy is looking for candy, odds are he'll find what he wants in a candystore.

I saw the list, and yes, there was an agency listed in Guadalajara, funny enough I had found it just before I joined this forum, I sent them an email with lots of questions since it did not really had much info for women, no answer yet.

TexasMatt, have you ever been down to Monterrey? Believe me, the border towns do not do justice to Mexico. If you go to Monterrey, your eyes will bug out, especially in the wealthier areas. You can go into an HEB there and it's just like you were back in Texas. The women are pretty good looking but as far as I can tell, there is no real interest in American men.

I will have to check it out.  Would you drive to see more or would you fly?  If you have the names of a couple of cool places to check out, I'll try and get down to check them out.

I have done the touristy thing and made several trips to Cancun.  I visited several Mayan Pyramid sites.  They were incredible.  You can only enter them from the top, as they are of solid construction.

The views of the jungle is incredible from the top.  I would have loved to see those cities back in the day.

If you've driven to Matamoros or Reynosa, you could handle driving to Monterrey. Be sure to get the Mexican auto insurance and take the toll roads wherever you can. They are expensive but the regular roads are absolutely terrible. You'll have to get a auto permit for your car (to cut down on the importation of stolen vehicles into Mexico) so you have to have your certificate of title with you to prove ownership. You don't need any of this in the border towns but as you go further into the interior of Mexico they have checkpoints about 15 miles in.

Also in Monterrey they have a habit of having a one way street change directions when it crosses an intersecting street. I was going down a one way street and crossed the intersection to suddenly realize that it became one way in the opposite direction. I stopped before I entered and turned but a transit cop stopped me and claimed that I had entered the street. This started a "Mexican standoff" where we just waited while my girlfriend chewed him out in Spanish and held him out as an example to the passersby. She was right, he was a bad example - he had been drinking beer in his car while on duty. He started out wanting 50 dollars and after 20 minutes of her harangue, she got him down to $10. She told me that she could get him to go even lower but it would take more time so we gave him the $10 and left. I bet that was the roughest $10 mordida he ever got. Boy she reamed him a new one. It was almost worth the $10 to watch it.

They love cabrito in Monterrey (and I have a taste for it myself) so I went to El Rey de Cabrito which is the most famous cabrito place but there are many others. Check out a park named Chipinque which is up in the mountains overlooking the city - there is a hotel and restaurant at the top and a lot of walking trails in the park. The people of Monterrey like to exercise and you'll see a lot of runners and bicyclists in the city parks. There is a large suburb called San Pedro Garza Garcia which is on the south side of Monterrey slightly to the west which is quite nice but very Americanized. One thing that is good about it is that a lot of people speak some English and quite a few are fluent so if your Spanish isn't that good, you can get by ok.

It is not a cheap city by any means especially if you stay and eat at the finer places. It reminds me of Medellin in some ways the way it is surrounded by towering mountains and due to the amount of industry there. In the industrial parks out near the airport, they make everything known to man. It is just incredible.

Hi Utopiacowboy,

Great story, thank you.  Do the navigation systems work down there?  i was thinking that it might give a signal when it turns into a one way.  I have copied your post so I can refer to your advice on my next trip. I take it you have been to Columbia.  What did think of it?  I have never been but I have a friend that has told me all about it.  Just looking for a second opinion.  I am planning on taking my first trip to panama after the first of the year and I was considering taking a few more days to see Bogota.

Good luck vixen,
It's tough finding someone, but I imagine it's worth the effort, although I wouldn't know, personally. Just keep your wits about you. Btw, where'd you learn such good english?
