Hi... new here
« on: November 22, 2008, 05:28:14 PM »
Is it just my imagination or most seem to be male? if i posted in the wrong place please let me know!
(nice to meet you all btw)

Well, i found this place after getting tired of looking for a site that would help me in my search for that special someone, all the ones i found where directed to men, and in my opinion, they had "scam" written all over, so I would really appreciate if i could get some opinions on different sites.

A place that focus on international dating would be nice, but it could be a normal one. Thing is, I am picky, and just like you guys are attracted to latin/russian/asian ladies, i am attracted to certain type of gentleman, so if the place limits my choices by area i'm pretty much stuck...

You're right. It is nearly all male but I hope that doesn't prevent you from participating. Bienvenidos!

Hi and welcome aboard. We've had many women post here in the past and currently have quite a few on the Asian board. Nice of you to drop by.

It's not necessarily that we're attracted to Asian/Latin/Russian women, we more attracted to the kinds of personalities you find overseas. As I've posted many times, the good women seen to get married quickly and stay married, so it's difficult once you pass a certain age to find someone who has the kind of marriageable qualities many of us are looking for - that's why we go overseas.

How about telling us a little more about yourself.

gracias :) I just thought for a moment that maybe i had posted in the wrong place, and that this was an exclusive area for guys.

I am glad i found this forum, from the little i've read so far, i am sure it will be very helpful.

I am curious about those personal introduction agencies though, I don't think we have those here, could someone explain me how they work?

@Jeff S:
yes i know what you mean about personality, and i just realized it might have sounded like i meant looks, thought i guess those can count aswell.

About me, the reason i'm looking for a relationship outside my country is because of exactly that, personality, I am a very faithful woman, and i expect that in return, sadly it seems to be rare to find a faithful mexican man, I could just go up to San Diego and try to meet someone, but i feel a bit insecure about it, i am not looking just for fun, I'm looking for a meaningful relationship, and eventually marriage.

So... don't know where to start or how.

Hi InnocentVixen,

Welcome to P-L! I think this is as good place to start as any. Maybe someone can suggest an agency where you can list your profile to meet a foreign husband or maybe someone here is looking for a nice lady.  Buenas suerte!

Not all of us are guys who purposely looked for a foreign spouse. I lived in a rural part of Texas close to Mexico. Since there are more cattle than people where I lived but quite a few heavily populated Mexican cities nearby, I thought about looking for someone in Mexico. I saw my wife's profile on a web site and was dismayed to see that she was from Colombia. Nevertheless I couldn't shake her image from my mind so I went ahead and stated communicating with her.

aww that is kind of romantic, wich site did you use? i've checked up a couple but not quite convinced to really try one yet, it's good a lot of this places give you results near your area, but it seems some limit that area within your country.

"Up to San Diego" so I take it you're from BC? I used to run a twin plant maquiladora - one in Irvine and one near el cinco y diez. I was always surprised at what it takes to cut through the insincerity. I understand your frustration. Muy buena suerte para usted.

I used amigos.com back in the day when you could get a monthly membership for just under $10. This allowed you to send messages to anyone that you wished and within the message you could enclose your real email address. In this way the women, most of whom just had free memberships which did not allow them to send messages, could just send you an email. Since then people tell me it's changed and no longer a good deal. They say that www.cybercupido.com is the way to go now but I haven't checked it out myself.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out

@Jeff S:
Yes, I'm in Baja California, Ensenada to be specific, I don't think I know of the place you speak of, maybe it was in Tijuana or some other city?

I am inspired by posts of so many going through so much trouble to find the right lady, and even for some that sounds like they just got lucky; as for a few others, I'd like to remind you that it is not only the man that gets to choose, and that some women go through a lot of trouble as well (though I'm a little envious of women in Colombia now) but even them "the good ones" at least must have a hard time between so much competition and guys that just want to fool around.

It's our experience (mas o menos) that most Mexicanas are not that interested in American men. I did have a Mexicana girlfriend for a while but she was a little unusual in that her grandparents were Americans who had moved to Mexico. She could speak English pretty well and her last name was not very Mexican (Aldrich).

Yes, cinco y diez is an area of Tijuana. I've been to Ensenada many times, also since the late 60s. I really enjoy the Santo Tomas wine area just south of there and the fishing around Todosantos. Lately, though there seem to be some real jerks down there - drunken teenagers everywhere. I remember when it was much more sedate - only rowdy in Hussongs Cantina or Papas and Beer.

@utopiacowboy:
that is true, american men do not have exactly a good reputation among mexican women, but not a bad one either, so that is why it's rare to find a mexicana looking to marry an american; mexican men can be quite aggressive when it comes to win a girls heart, we practically have to fight them off with a stick! so if you act too shy she might not even realize you were interested to start with.

as for me, I am a bit more open minded than most, for example, I am not limiting my search to the states, they just happen to be close so it would make things easier, not to mention you have quite the interesting mix to pick from; but i would be just as happy if I find "the one" and he happens to be korean or whatever.

@Jeff S:
ahh the good old days... things have changed drastically in the last 5years or so, the financial situation of USA right now has affected us in both positive and negative ways, positive because people are investing their money here, negative because it's attracting too much people too fast, that includes people with a bad attitude; but hey, at least it still safe, and even peaceful if you know where to go and when  :)

I guess I contrast my Mexican experiences with those in Colombia. The Colombian women are not shy about letting you know that they are interested. In Medellin I'll be waiting for my wife to do something and sitting on a bench in a park or mall and the women passing by will smile at me and some will even give me a little wave. It would be pretty easy to have it go to your head that's for sure.

@michaelb: glad to be here  :)

@utopiacowboy:
Is not that mexicanas are shy really, I would say it's more that we are used to being pursued, and like i mentioned before, mexican guys love the chase, so if you give signals of interest they will try to jump you, if they get what they want they will move on to the next, if they don't, same result. (there are exceptions, but you get the idea)

I'm friendly, and that has gotten me in a bit of trouble with men here, misunderstandings can be quite uncomfortable, so I try to control myself, but when I'm not in Mexico I tend to be more flirty or when i am with old friends, people that I know will not get the wrong idea, I can even be a tease.

   InnocentVixen,

        I once used an agency in Guadalajara called MexicanMatchmakers but that was in 2001.I don't know if they are still around. I'd say that you would probably be better off using a strictly internet site.Your English is great. Some guys on this site can probably tell which sites are the best.

Thank you and nice to meet you  :)

@Researcher:
I think that site might not be in use anymore, It's still there, but no reply. I sent an email with my questions to both email addresses, and i could not find a phone number in either site. But I just got the link for one in Miami, so let's see how that goes.

InnocentVixen,

Welcome to the site and I hope you find the love of your life.. I am getting married to my Novia in 3.5 weeks and I am heading down to Peru with my 2 kids for the wedding in 2.5 weeks.

My fiancee made my 12 yr old daughter the Maid of honor..

Here is an idea for you.. Planet-love is the top website for primarily men and some women looking for a foreign spouse and looking for info on how to do it..

There are guys that are married and engaged here who help out the newbies and there a ton of guys looking for the woman to be happy with for the rest of your life..

I would start a thread maybe titled " About me and what I am looking for in a man".. Put this thread in the general Latin section..

Tell the guys that are looking something about yourself ..

The questions I mentioned below are what most sites list about
a woman..

example..

your hobbies and interests..

your education..

your job..

do you have your own place or share..

if you have or have not kids..

what are your dreams..

what you like to do for fun..

do you smoke or not..

do you drink socially or not..

your religion and is it important that the man is the same religion.

do you want kids ..

etc..

Then you can list what you are looking for in a man..

What age range are you looking at ?
example 30 - 45 ?

etc..

This way you might meet someone here and they can PM you or vice versa..

Also if you let guys know that you are open to constructive criticism. Guys here can help you make the best profile possible to put on any website.. Since many of us have read thousands of profiles over the years , I would say a lot of us are experts at weeding through profiles and this way you will have a kick butt profile..

With the hundreds of thousands of profiles on the Internet you need to stand out from the crowd and to draw guys interest in you..

You can't buy this type of help... ;D ;D

Also be aware you have one advantage is that you are close to the USA and you have a US VISA to go visit anytime you want..

With the downturn in the economy a lot of guys are holding off on trips to Colombia and Peru etc.. because of the travel costs.. They will be more open to meeting a lady more close to home..

If you need any help just ask..

Hope this helps,

singlefather

..

wow, thank you guys!
I'll write a "sample profile" here to get some opinions as soon as I have the chance, about the pictures I must admit I am camera shy and have not mastered the art of taking pictures of myself, but I know it's very important so I'll try.

Quote
An update on those dating sites you have recommended so far:
LatinEuro.com answered my email pretty fast, except it sounds like an automated message in bad spanish requesting my information and pictures and ignoring my questions... which I sent in english.... also I checked the latin section and some pictures intimidated me a little, there was a topless one! so I don't think that's a place for me.
cybercupido.com waiting for them to authorize my profile, it takes about a week after you register, so I'll check on sunday.
EHarmony I keep getting decent matches, men I think I would be compatible with, answering all those questions was worth it, most of them are a bit too young but they do sound mature, and the few that are older sound very nice.
Having a free subscription I can't even answer when someone is interested or see the main picture of their profile, but since I read some complaints and about "free communication weekends" I'll wait and try it for free first because the the subscription is a bit expensive.

@singlefather:
I read a couple of your posts, I think you found yourself a great woman and I'm sure you'll find happiness with her because you both sound so much in love  :)
