To the married men- What does your wife do?
« on: October 22, 2008, 10:17:12 PM »
My wife and I were having a conversation about the men on Planet Love tonight. She wanted to know exactly what the wives from South America were doing in terms of work or school.

If they are working she was very interested in knowing exactly what type of work they are doing..

My wife has been going to school full time the last few years studying English and taking some General Education classes. She wants to become a nurse and should be ready to enter the program early next year.

To the married guys...thank you in advance for your responses.

My wife is a chemical engineer by training - she has a degree from UPB in Medellin. She worked at Taco Cabana (a chain of Mexican food restaurants for a year preparing food). When she left to go to work for Toyota, they said she was welcome to come back and work for them as a store manager if it didn't work out. At the Toyota plant she started as a production worker running paint robots, was promoted to team leader and later promoted to production supervisor. She is resisting further promotion because it would require more hours.

Well...in Barranquilla she was a supervisor for Nestle'.  She went around to all the grocery stores in town to make sure they had the right product on the right shelves, had the proper displays set up, ect...

Here...she's the ESL program coordinator.

The School director keeps telling her they will give her scholarships or grants or whatever to go to school to become a teacher.  I told her, even though it sounds good...teachers constantly get the short end of the stick as far as pay, job security, ect..  I keep getting on her about not speaking spanish to her friends and to speak more english so she can get a better job....I might as well talk to this darn computer screen.  It goes in one ear and out the other.  Maybe I need to get out my sock filled with oranges again.  Hopefully this time she won't take it away from me and start hitting ME with it again. :D :D :D

My wife is a college grad from Barranquilla she worked for a very large contruction company that was building Ocean Front condo's in Cartagena. Her job was to meet with the general contractor on the job and make sure they had all of there supplies from concrete to kitchen cabinets delivered to the site on time. He English is very good and getting better every day she speaks with all my friends and my family in English and she only speaks to her daughter in Spanish. Over the next few months i want to buy or start some sort of business for her to run hands on and for me to handle all of the books. I am not sure if she will go back to any type of schooling.

My wife has been in the US almost 6 years. She is a licensed veterinarian in Colombia, but works as a pet nurse in the US.  Before she can even try to get her veterinarian license in the US, she has to pass an English proficiency test.  She has taken the test twice and still not gotten a high enough score despite studying for months before each try.  I don’t even know if she intends to try for a third time as she was pretty discouraged after the last test.

Your wife is a Production Supervisor for a major US Company in the USA and she does not hardly speak a word of English? All personal meetings are never done in English?  She never has to write a report or fill out paperwork in English? She never has to speak to personal above her in English?

I know you are not lieing about this UT  With all due respect, the facts are just a little difficult to swallow.

My wife is a legal assistant for a personal injury law firm, this is actually the second such firm that she has worked for since we married. Before that she was a chiropractic assistant. She has a degree in computing from Peru, and worked in Lima for 10 years for the same university that she graduated from, in teaching and administrative positions.

My wife was a family doctor in Pereira, Colombia. She is now studying for her American board exams so that she can practice here in the states.

I was at a wedding reception last Saturday with some of her coworkers and they all laughed when they told me that she even speaks Spanish to the Japanese technicians at the plant. I asked them how that went over and they said actually some of the techs are learning Spanish. The woman lives in a little world of her own! A Spanish-speaking world!
