Anyone here ever considered Puerto Rico
« on: September 25, 2008, 06:29:07 AM »
Hey gentlemen,

It's been a while since I posted here. I would like to know if anyone here has had experience in Puerto Rico.

I am sure many American guys on this site have experience with PR women since there are alot of PR chicks in the US. I am from europe and never see them apart from on TV.

I am actually surprised at how little people say about the place, since it literally is a stone through away from the US.

anyway look foward to hearing some commentary.

I go to PR every 3 to 4 months for work all you need is a photo ID . there are some very nice women there but they are no differnet then the PR women here. I would not waste your time with PR .

Good Luck

I've spent some time in Puerto Rico and I am friends with a woman from PR. Comparing it to Colombia or even Mexico, I just wouldn't bother with it. The women seem just like women here and they're not that fond of gringos anyway.

As having lived in Puerto Rico for some time and having been married to a Puerto Rican, I can shed some light.  Atm I'm tired and heading for bed so I will explain more later.  But for the moment ditto to what has been said.  For the most part..don't bother.

Plenty of PR women in NYC.  I think they may even be nastier than AW even the ones that just arrived.

Fathertime!

:) Yes I have been gone for a while, so here goes.  Puerto Rico is a whole different ball game compared to other latin american countries.  Reason being first Puerto Ricans are full fledged American citizens.  This means they can move freely to and from the island without restriction.  Intersting fact, there are more Puerto Ricans living in the continental US, than live on the island itself.

Now even though Puerto Ricans are citizens, the island of Puerto Rico itself is only a territory of the US.  Without delving too far into PR politics and sociology (you could literally write an encyclopedia on the subject), people there feel slighted because of their political status and there is an ingrown mistrust of "gringos" and outsiders.  This mistrust goes all the way back to when Spain ruled the island, treated the indians as slaves and PR was never a full fledged member of Spain.  To illustrate the mistrust, even the 9 Billion a month (yes 9 Billion) the USA sends to the island as help, is by many considered a modern form of "food stamp" slavery to the american empire.

Applying this to the subject at hand, this puts us "gringos" at a big disadvantage in the eyes of most women there. The attitude there is "Why would you want to marry a gringo? They don't know whats best for a Puerto Rico or a Puerto Rican."  You def do not get the rock star treatment from women there like you get in other countries. (Side note, even some "Puerto Rican's" not born there are treated like outsiders, just because they weren't born there. It seems color, or even one's own blood isn't a factor on this one.)

Another observation, many Puerto Rican ladies have AW attitudes.  Many of them are high maintenance and in some cases are more obsessed with keeping up with the Jones' than many of their AW counterparts.  Maybe its just me, but I thought that the less attractive they seemed to be, the less classy they seemed and more demanding.  Another AW attitude that has permeated their society is the nice treatment that the man gets from the wife in a lot of latin countries.  On the flipside being the guy, you are lower on the totem pole.  The best way to describe it is having a bridezilla with you eternally. (OK maybe a wee bit of an exaggeration but it happened to me)

Last but not least you will not have a private life if you are in a relationship with a PR lady.  And I mean none.  If you fart, be aware that your wife's 3rd cousin and the neighbors dog that lives 3000 miles away will know about it by the end of the day.  I know in latin culture people share things with family, but in PR it was overkill, and that is understating it.

In short in the vast majority of cases...don't bother.  I'm not saying there aren't some gems out there.  But your odds are much better with Colombia or other Latin American destinations.

They just had the Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC.  No need to travel to the island, much of the island is already here.

As a side note, there was an episode of Seinfeld called "The Puerto Rican Day". The Puerto Ricans made such a hullabaloo about it (Kramer accidentally sets fire to a Puerto Rican flag at one point), it is not shown in reruns. Which is a shame because it is a hilarious episode.

I dated a Boriqua here in the states about ten years ago. She was very attractive. Gorgeous body. But I have to agree with JamesDonut on many of his observations. Although she was born in PR and spent the first ten years of her life there, she was over-americanized (if that's even a term). Boriquas tend to be EXTREMELY jealous and emotionally unpredictable also. Full of fire. It's almost as if they prefer drama as supposed to peace. Just generalizations, but every girl in my ex's family was like this. I use to feel so sorry for her father. In their house it was him, his wife's mother, his wife, his three daughters, and a distant female cousin from PR the family had taken in after some trouble back home. Quietest man I've ever met in my life. He use to kind of just sit there and take it.

Dude waited 2 years, 9 months to reply, wow.
When I was looking I did a search specifically for PR women.  I don't believe I contacted any of them and I think the vast majority of them are like American women in that they want a guy closer to their age meaning no 10 year age differences.  There's probably a gringo somewhere that had some success with a PR lady and God bless him for that but my guess is that is the exception and not the rule.

When I was a young salesman in New York, full of piss and vinegar and with a full head of hair and making good money (this goes back to about 1831 or so....jejejeje),I took an American girl for a five day trip to Puerto Rico....Seriously,  this was about 1979.....and I never went back. I just didnt like the islandf..... I felt people were unfriendly...and after that I took girls to other places in the Caribbean.

I went to high school school in Manhattan with Puero Ricans,,,,,....the girls all seemed to have BBBs ...ball bearing butts, small, wiry bodies....

.Jennifer  Lopez is maybe the most famous Puerto Rican...and frankly other then her butt...which is definitley different....I don t think that (if she was a normal chica...and not famous ), she wouldn t get an inordinate amount of attention in Colombia.  Every day in Colombia, I see women who physically blow Jennifer Lopez away.....

But, Eva Mendes, now she COULD play in the Colombian leagues......might make the All Star team...but she is of Cuban descent! jejejeje!

Seriously, for all the reasons described above....... I cant see any advantage to dating Puerto Rican women.
