Here's a question I haven't seen before...

Can you claim support for her mother on your taxes?

I need to talk to my wife again when she gets home from work...but she says she has a friend who is married to an American and he puts the support he gives her mother on his taxes.  My wife told me the name of the tax form, I forgot though, but supposedly you need the mother's birth certificate, Colombian ID number and something else I think.  Has anyone heard of this?

Catz....LOLOLOLOL.  Yeah, I think she already does.

Sir William...I assume by your response that I can, but I will probably be audited.  I've tried to look it up and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the most you can deduct looks to be around $850 plus a little more if they are older than 65.

Don't forget depreciation.  If she is a historical site their are futher incentives.

Your mother-in-law would have to meet the citizenship/residency test... Must be either a U.S.citizen, a U.S. resident, or a resident of Canada or Mexico.

Perhaps all the MIL's can get together and form a Non-profit organization. Something like MILAGG (Mother-In-Laws Against Greedy Gringos) or YSMDSNYP (You Stole My Daughter So Now You Pay). That way your can send them money AND write it off as a tax deduction.
