Gringos con sabor latino
« on: October 28, 2007, 10:28:39 AM »
Anybody catch Sabado Gigante last night? They had a new segment they called 'Gringos con sabor latino' (or perhaps it was 'el sabor'  or 'un sabor', can't remember exactly). Anyway, they got couples out of the audience that were gringo man/latina woman. Most of the couples were in their late twenties or maybe early thirties, although one couple was late 40's or maybe 50's, ALL appeared to be within 5 years of the same age. They briefly interviewed five or six couples and wound up using 3 of them for further participation. The gringos' Spanish ability ranged from practically none to sounded like a native. The one who sounded like a native swore that he didn't grow speaking it and that his wife (who was a stone fox, by the way) had taught him everything he knew. Everybody had some good natured fun poking at the poor guy who couldn't understand what was being said, but he wasn't offended (AND his wife stuck up for him). ALL of the women were extremely proud of their men, not as in 'look at ME, I caught a rich gringo' but as in 'I got a GOOD man'. Then they had a few of the men participate in a little skit that was fairly good. For those familiar with the show, you know there is also a singing contest, this time they had a second edition of it, just for the gringos, and the guy who said his wife had taught him won it too, with an excellent voice.

Hope Don Francisco makes this a regular segment of the show. Heck, Martha and I said if they do, we'd go on (but that probably won't happen, it's a long way from Texas to Miami and I doubt the show would pay our travel expenses, and for sure nobody wants to hear my singing, ha ha)

I love to hear stories like that.  I love hearing that the Latinas was sticking up for their men.  I am in Bogota now doing my last search.  I know I am going to find someone.  I just feel it.  I am meeting some high quality women.

I didn't see it but was told about it.  The couple that won was a gringo from Utah and his wife from Colombia.  Interesting stuff indeed.
