most racial profiling is based upon ignorance and fear. being a medellin veteran, i can tell you that the average black person a paisa encounters is usually at street corners juggling lemons for money or at most of very little means. they immediately put black people in another classification when they find out they are gringos. i found that the most racist people in medellin were the wealthy ones; that usually applies other places in the world also.

i agree with soltero, they want real men. i also agree with utopiacowboy, racism exists in medellin. believe me, there are enough women in medellin for black and white men. just be yourself and do your thing. if you have flavor, they will be all over you.

If I had confidence...uhh... "flavor" I wouldn't be considering a woman from another country LOL  ;D :D. Actually, for me, its that I just don't get out enough or advertise myself. 12 hours a day and 7 days a week kills the dating/women part of my life.

yeah, and tape a couple of freshly minted $100 bills on your forehead so you don't get mistaken for one of those street vendors.

My 2 cents.

Try to get out of Poblado.

Avoid Mangos at all costs.

I agree with Avispa 200%.  In fact if you meet a girl who is anxious to go to Mangos, or says that she goes there often, skip her.

The place is not bad per se, but it is known as a place where escorts go with or to meet visiting foreigners.  Also my hunch is that local mobsters go there, and if they happen to like your girl, you will be in a sticky situation.  Skip it.

Mangos. My wife lived in Medellin 25 years and went there once a couple of weeks before she left Medellin.

I asked my novia about mangos on my first trip, she told me that she had been one time in her life and did not care for it.

Just a quick response, because I am brand new to this site, but have several years of experience in Colombia. This includes living in Medellin for 2 years and traveling by car and air throughout the country. First put your fears of visiting Medellin to rest...this is a safe destination, this said you do need to be cautious of where and who you hang your hat with! There is a nice little tid-bit in the NY Times, the link to the article on the rebirth of Medellin is:

http://travel.nytimes.com/travel/guides/central-and-south-america/colombia/overview.html

I will be pleased to confirm or deny and rumors you might have concerning the chickas here.
