Fishing and scuba diving in the Philippines
« on: July 22, 2007, 04:19:53 PM »
Hopefully it is ok to ask about fishing and scuba diving on this site. I am curious if any of the members did some fishing or scuba diving while you where in the Philippines and if you would recommend a place to contact. I have found some places on the internet but I always prefer use businesses that someone has first hand knowledge of.

Jimbo spent a lot of time diving the PI. I haven't seen his posts in awhile, but I think he and his wife bought or built a beach house there, and he's now splitting his time 50/50. Also, one of my boatbuilding customers was a big fishermen in the PI. He and his Filipina wife recently moved to Guam. I can put you in-touch with both you like.

Thanks Jeff, I am sure talking to them would be a great help. Even if they don't live there now, they will know where to look.

I received my PADI Open Water Diver's license in the Philippines back in '86. The instructor was Efren B. Sarmiento, through Sea US. After doing a Google search, it appears he and/or his outfit no longer exists.

I can still vividly recall how crystal clear the water was as I stood on the diver's platform peering into the depths below . . .

I can also vividly recall how pissed off my instructor was after I detonated the CO2 on my buoyancy vest at a depth of twenty meters or so when I meant to open the air release valve.
