What do all the little locks mean? Does that mean that post has been moved to another location?

Means that somebody with the 'MOVED' power thinks that everything that isn't a "what agency did you use?" question is 'off topic'....or it could mean somebody got their feelings hurt.

Maybe they are experiencing technical difficulties. There were some benign posts that went missing yesterday also. They were on topic and certainly not offensive.

Could be, in fact I just got one reading the thread where they cite  technical problems and also explain the judgment they used moving stuff. I think their judgment cut a little deeper than mine would have. I think informing people about major political/historical events and/or riots/demonstrations does indeed have something to do with hunting for a Latin mate...at the very least it might make somebody say "maybe I'll postpone that trip to where ever". (or conversely, make somebody say "with all that trouble, they must be 'easy pickins' " and decide to go) But at least the moderators explained their judgment.

Im still what you could call fairly new to the board since the new ownership or managership has taken over . I get the feeling from what i have read that there are some hard feelings or at the least some misunderstandings between some of the moderators and some of the board members, over what i havent really figured out yet but you can feel the tension.

I just find it to be a little strange that all the sudden a whole bunch of posts are transferred, and some have even disappeared completely.

I dont understand this type of behavior, seems a little on the over kill side.

I also note that some of the posts that were transferred seemed to me to be very much Colombia/SA topic, i was trying to figue out why some of these posts would be sent from on topic area to a off topic area when they are clearly on topic subjects.

Another odd thing is as i stated earlier some of the post replys disappeared completely. example: i asked a question about dentist and another one about coffee stands in Cali. I could have sworn i had 7 or 8 replys on those subjects, but as of last night some of the replys disappeared and i now have 4 replys on each of those posts, porque?

can someone set it clear whats REALLY going on here so the rest of us are not left out in the dark?

Well...yes. Yesterday the site was down for a while.  Some posts, pm's and appreciation points got lost.  It was no one's doing...just a technical malfuntion of the website.

As far as posts being moved...yes.  Another member inquired about his post being moved, felt he may have been treated unfairly and asked for a clairification.  I agreed and saw his point.  No problem.  So in all fairness I moved some of the other posts to the off topic area, starting back to when I first started (feb. 15) so no one feels slighted or treated unfairly.  I know some may not understand this type of behavior..but it's in the other post.  I told him I would go back since I started and move the other posts that I was either to lazy to move or missed it...just to be fair to everyone.  If I had said I would...and didn't do it...well, some are just waiting for the chance to point this out to the entire board for personal reasons.  I'm kinda...damned if I do, damned if I don't, right now.

Your right...some of the posts seem to be "on topic", in fact...99.9% of the posts in the Latin Discussion area have something to do with a Latin subject or theme.  However, because we have more than one area...we try to keep them divided up.

I hope everyone reads this:  NO AREA IS A PUNISHMENT OR LESS IMPORTANT THAN THE OTHERS.  I've tried to be as clear as I can about wether a topic should be in the general or the off topic area in Cali-vet's thread yesterday.  Use your best judgement..if it's moved, it's nothing personal or a punishment of any kind.  It is just a judgement call.  If a topic is of some interest, then people will respond to it, others will see it in the "most recent posts" type of thingy...and it will get noticed just as much as all the other recent posts.  As you can see...I tried not to be overly strict with it, but since it was brought up...I had to go back and treat the other posts exactly the same.  I look at the post, NOT the person who wrote it.  I'm sorry if anyone thinks it's the other way around.  I don't consider an area that someone has access to...out of the way, hidden, swept under the rug...or any other negative thing.  Others do and I can't help what they feel.

I didn't realize it was that important and that others might take it personal.  So, I think I gave a clear and apologetic answer before in Cali-vet's thread.  If at any time you think I/we are being unfair to you or anyone else...it may be better to shoot the person a private pm.  Things usually go smoother and calmer in private.

Yes...there is some friction between a few people right now and everyone is trying to be as adult and level headed as we can and work things out in private.

I apologize...I thought everyone had read the other poster's thread yesterday and my thread in the off topic area last night explaining this.

I don't know about other people, but I hardly ever check the general off-topic area. I've checked it maybe 3 times since I started posting here. For those of us solely interested in foreign women/countries/cultures, the off-topic area is definitely a less important part of the board. But none of the posts moved seemed all that interesting so what the hell.

I don't see why there has to be such a rigid division though...it's just a forum ya'know? And a pretty small one at that...It's not like anyone's going to be pissed that some post might have been better suited to a different section of the board. No need to be so anal. Some of the posts might pique someone's curiousity, and they never would have seen it if it had been in the off-topic area.

I tried not to be rigid...but half way organized at the same time.
Someone did seem a little miffed that a post was moved, so I explained and then tried to be extra fair.
I'm like you...I didn't think it was thatbig of a deal....but sometimes this job has it's unpopular duties to perform.  I see your point 100%.

Most folks use the link "Show unread posts since last visit" or use the "last forum post" from the entry page.

Even if they went to the Forum page the could see the new posts in each forum so anything in any area would show up as a recent or new post. Nothing will be lost or hidden. It is more of a trying to group things to where they are relevant.

Does that make any more sense?

It makes sense. I'm just pretty laid back when it comes to organizing things and it seems like a lot of effort, and possibly a little confusion and a bit of miffing for some posters, for very little gain. I just can't imagine going through and moving posts on my weekend just 'cause some guy was miffed, haha...especially if I had a wife who looked like Sean's  ;). Seems kinda weird to me is all. Not really complaining, just don't get it. Guess I'm not admin material, hahaha...

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL   Sounds just like my wife when she's been getting on me the last couple of days about being on the computer too much.  Dodging frying pans and kung fu kicks while trying to type and move posts are a trick in itself. :D :D :D

I'm not talking to you anymore.  Ever since she found out about you being a mild mannor lawyer by day and freaky wet t-shirt participate at night in Thailand...she's been wanting an 8X10 glossy.  Apparently, your the "Brad Pitt" of the legal world now to some of our wives. >:(

Sean, I think this post has degenerated into an off-topic subject not related to the search for latin women.   ;D

True, Braniac.  Then again...if I move it, I'm accused of trying to surpress valuble information.

I don't think so.  There is no name calling, swearing, unsubstantiated claims.  There are two sides of the argument displayed and comments from those on the sidelines that are right on point.

This thread crystallizes free speech containing multiple points of view.

Sean, you're catching on.
