Best ATM's in Cali
« on: April 26, 2007, 07:20:20 AM »
I keep track of my ATM withdrawls and used three diferent ATMS: Citibank, the bank located in every Exito, and the one at centercourt Chipechape (I think it's BancoPopular)  The best rate was thru Citibank, I got 2147.17 cop per $1.  Others were only a few pesos behind.  Pretty good rate if you ask me.  This was on 04/22/07.

I haven't noticed much if any difference on the exchange rate based on which ATM I use.

All my debit cards have a VISA logo on them and from what I can tell all give the same international exchange rate that any VISA card gives on a particular day. It can and does change daily.

The two things that differ are how much the bank (of the debitcard) charges to make a withdrawal and how much a particular ATM in Colombia will let withdraw at one time for one transaction fee.

My Wellsfargo debit card is the worst because they charge $5 per transaction and if I go to an ATM in Colombia that has a max. withdrawal amount of 300,000 cop then that is about as bad as it gets.

On the other hand if I use my PayPal debit card which charges $1 per transaction and I use a DAVIVIENDA atm to withdraw 500,000 cop at one time then that is about as good as it gets.

Calipro....I think that Citibank in Cali lets you take out the most per transaction:  700.000 cop.  I like that since my bank charges me per transaction and the fee depends on how much you withdraw.  The fee for withdrawing the 700.000 was $3.27 and another $1.00 for an outside ATM charge, so about the same as your bank.  I bank with Wachovia in the states.

Hey Calipro,

If my amiga has the good sense to accept my proposal in July, I was thinking of giving her a paypal card. Did you just send a request for an extra one with her (your wife's) name on it, or did you give your wife your card?

I gave my wife my card but I think you can also request one in her name.

The only reason to have it in her name is if you want her to make purchases with the card rather than just withdrawing money from an ATM.

Thanks. I am seriously considering a Paypal card for her. From what you have been saying, it should make things a lot cheaper and easier. She is better with money than I am in some ways.

Great tip Calipro.  I never thought about Paypal.  I've been using Paypal for years and never noticed they had debit cards.  I have been driving myself crazy trying to figure out how to get my girl an ATM/Debit card without her being here to sign on to my account.  (My banks only allows one debit card per signer on an account)  I just ordered one and will just send her that.  Thanks for the tip...

I did exactly that. I filled out the request for the extra Paypal Visa debit with her name on it. No problems, whatsoever. The only drawback is that it takes 3-4 business days to complete the funds transfer. And thanks to Calipro about the Davivienda tip.

I guess 2100 is good at this time. I sure do miss the good old days when it was 2800.

i remember when the value of $1000 pesos was 37 cents. Now it is almost half a buck. Adds up when you are spending big:

$1,000,000 = $500 vs $337

Red Bull may give you wings, but if Flakes could fly - BAQ is in fact an airport
