chicas gone bad
« on: April 06, 2007, 08:04:03 PM »
US agents in Bogota are apparently reportedly receiving a tremendous amount of calls from gringos reporting on chicas gone bad. They say the girls have everything already planned. Some have a husband already in the states. When they arrive in the USA, they sell everything in the house and when the guy gets home she is nowhere to be found. Some have a kid in the states and came back to see their family. Then they get married so they can get back to the states.

I question whether this really happens with great frequency and being told it does. I am not yet a full member of the optimistic club but still have a hard time believing this...but this is what my sources tell me. Don't shoot the messenger...

I feel it does happen as well Papi...to what extent..no one knows for sure...

However.....the ones it does happen to are probably the ones that go to South America with NO EXERIENCE what so ever with women in any country...they are "social misfits" and are easy prey for insincere women....

Papi,

 Please elaborate:

What do you mean by "US agents"?

 - and -

Who are they reporting this to?

Well, that first part is a good non answer. Why don't you write them and report back on the findings? Thanks much.

Why would "tremendous" numbers of women recruit parents, family, and friends to deceive a gringo during a courtship and marriage?  All of this time and risk to RE-enter the US a second time when a proven and successful means of entering the US is already known to her?  If she entered illegally the first time, with or without a Colombiano husband, she knows how to do it.  This does not bear out under the information given.

And the Embassy officer in Bogota would tell any duped gringo reporting theft (illegal sale of one's household items) to local police and the Feds in the US.  The Embassy has no jurisdiction over such crimes, nor is that its role.  It would not be the appropriate bureacratic level to compile such statistics  -- that is what the State Department does.  This report and its allegations need further support before being taken for what it purports to be.

Surely duplicity occurs, and some may have used the means described in the report.  For now I need much better proof before believing this report.

My gut tells me Don Pap is gonna lay out a "It's elementary, my dear Watson!" jab in response to our new arrival's comments.

Dr. Watson- Here is a quote from the country condition report for Colombia-

Adult prostitution is legal in designated "tolerance zones," but enforcement of, and restriction to, the zones remained difficult. Prostitution was widespread and exacerbated by poverty and internal displacement. Sex tourism existed to a limited extent, particularly in coastal cities such as Cartagena and Barranquilla, where marriage and dating services were often fronts for sexual tourism. The law prohibits organizing or facilitating sexual tourism and provides penalties of three to eight years' imprisonment. Trafficking in women for sexual exploitation continued to be a problem (see section 5, Trafficking).

Other than that- US Citizen Services seems to have no other information. The Report for Colombia is extremely interesting  and should be read thoroughly before one embarks on an endeavor as complex as spouse hunting.

Well Ray, I guess I proved my point.  You have nothing to say (helpful or useless) unless Papi post's something.

below are the cliffs notes since further clarification is apparently required:

1. some chicas are bad and take advantage of gringos marrying under false pretenses

2. some gringos complain (to the embassy)

home this helps

Is this the best you can do? You already know they will not return any e-mail you send them. Why don't you name names instead if you wish to post something like this then have the facts to back them up. As of right now the you have none.

Who is reporting??? I have had plenty of contact with the embassy and they do not return their e-mails and you know it! You are doing what you always do report something that has no basis in fact and you have no one except "the embassy" to back up your supposed fact.

Papi,

I think what they are asking in their unique way is....where specifically did you see this at and can you provide a link to it so others can read it too?  Did you hear about it through the grapevine or did you read it on a website?  I'm not putting you on the spot and it doesn't matter to me, but they seem to want to know.

Sean, in my original post I wrote "I question whether this really happens with great frequency and being told it does." I have my doubts too but again being told this is a common occurrence. I don't care if some of the members believe it or not. Forewarned is forearmed.
