I'm trying to figure out what exactly I'm getting into, guys.

I'd like to ask some questions, if I may.

How many trips did you make to your novia's/esposa's country before you met "the one"?

Did you travel to other countries before that?

How long did you court your current girlfriend/wife?

How many trips down there did you take to visit her?

How often do you go back there with her?

For those of you who are married, how long have you been married?

Were you married before to a MOB?

Sorry for all the questions, gang.  Again, trying to figure out exactly what to expect here.

1.  One trip
2.  Yes
3.  8 months via email/telephone/webcam/letters
4.  1
5.  Once a month (my 2nd trip to Cali in April)
6.  N/A
7.  N/A

From what I have heard and have been told, I am by far the luckiest guy in the world. (and other guys on here have had the same experience) My Noiva has none of the traits of many "horror stories" told on planet-love.  My girl pays for her taxis, bought me dinner, took me shopping and bought me things, was never late for our dates (ALWAYS early), never asked for anything (money, clothes, shoes, visa...etc) and is the sweetest and most beautiful woman I have ever seen.  Thats the reason I feel in love on my first trip.  First woman I dated when I arrived and she never left my mind.  I'm in love!   :P

i did not experience any of the horror stories either on my first trip and ended up with someone for 2 years. It was not until I later went back to the well and the chicas stole my sneakers, scammed on taxis, showed up 3 hours late, brought mommy along, visa dodged, asked for money, cameras and gifts, etc., etc. Praemonitus praemunitus forewarned is forearmed....or listen to the optimists at your own peril  ;D

None specifically to look for women, through I was there three or four times on business and did date a bit.

Not in search of a wife - but I did date some on business trips.

Trips to Cali--8
Met my EX-Wife on the second trip
Divorced my wife 4 years later as she was a lier
Trips to other cities in Colombia--10, but some were multiple cities, same trip.

Venezuela--2 times
Dominican Republic-1 time
Ecuador-2 times

I have been with my Ecuadorian Novia now for 7 months, and she is"THE ONE", but you can see how many trips it took. A few guys get lucky the first time, but most do not and it takes many trips, mistakes , before you find the right person for you.

I suggest going to Barranquilla your first trip as they have incredibly beautiful women and not as much bad marriage material as say Cali because Cali , even though has the agencies and a lot of women, they have a ton of Sharks, but if you go there knowing that, then maybe you can get lucky like a Bundy did, but you also might get burned . i would go just to have fun and if it happens, then it happens

How many trips did you make to your novia's/esposa's country before you met "the one"?
2

Did you travel to other countries before that?
Yes.  Mexico twice to meet two women.

How long did you court your current girlfriend/wife?
Maybe a 18 months in total, but at first only via mail and phone.  Must have been something just short of a year from first meeting to marriage.

How many trips down there did you take to visit her?
2

How often do you go back there with her?
Once in 10 years, but I may go again in the next year or two.

For those of you who are married, how long have you been married?
Will be 10 years in June

Were you married before to a MOB?
No.  Was married to a gringa previously)

Sorry for all the questions, gang.  Again, trying to figure out exactly what to expect here.

Expect nothing.  That's the best approach IMHO.  Be skeptical and make your first trip with only one intention-  NOT TO FIND A WIFE.  Just go to experience the culture, and date someone casually.  Take your time and keep an open mind and don't let this whole thing wear you down.  It might be pretty disappointing to start a relationship, spend a year of your time and a fair amount on travel/phone bills etc. only to breakup, but if you marry someone only because of the amount of work you've put into a relationship, or because you're getting tired, then you might be making a big mistake.

Lastly-  Find a good woman, not just a good-looking woman.  Lots of guys go for arm candy that they couldn't possibly attract here.    And lots of guys get divorced.  I think there's a connection.  Don't go too far outside of your league.

In spite of the general public's perception of picking a girl out of a catalog, sending in your money and having her show up with stamps on her forehead, this is not the easy route by any stretch of the imagination. It takes far more time, money and effort than the good old fashioned way.

Don't go too far outside of your league.

A sometimes annoying attribute of science is how often it contradicts itself, or is later revealed to have been dead wrong on some "groundbreaking" discovery.

Do opposites attract?

Quote
She extremely tall, he a dwarf. She tidy and well organised, he a slovenly eccentric. She open, dilettante and forgiving, he obsessive and secretive. Beauty and the beast.

The trouble is, no one has much of a clue whether this is actually true, or if it is, what the basis of the attraction of opposites might be.

Hard evidence has emerged to suggest that this romantic notion may have a grain of truth in it. Opposites, at least on a very limited genetic level, may have what it takes to make a successful and long-lasting pairing.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=428776&in_page_id=1770

Or are we restricted to bumping uglies only with those in the same "league"?

Quote
Psychological research suggests that people generally choose mates with a similar level of attractiveness. The evolutionary theory is that by mating with someone who has similar genes, one's own genes are conserved.

A month or two before that conditional visa expires, maybe the petitioning wife and her gringo hubby should devote an hour to taking this little test:

Quote
Directions: Rate your potential or present partner in the following areas and factors by circling a number 1-5 that represents your best estimate of how much you are attracted to him/her, 1 being the lowest attraction and 5 being the highest. If you are really brave, have them rate you and compare results!

AREA, FACTORS POINTS

1. PHYSICAL ATTRACTION:

Face 1 2 3 4 5
Body 1 2 3 4 5
Grooming 1 2 3 4 5
Hygiene 1 2 3 4 5
Fashion 1 2 3 4 5
Sexuality 1 2 3 4 5

2. PERSONALITY ATTRACTION:

Outgoing nature 1 2 3 4 5
Pleasant, easy to get along with 1 2 3 4 5
Positive, upbeat attitude 1 2 3 4 5
Happy, fun-loving 1 2 3 4 5
Similar interests 1 2 3 4 5
Socially poised 1 2 3 4 5

3. INTELLECTUAL ATTRACTION:

Education 1 2 3 4 5
Knowledge 1 2 3 4 5
Common sense 1 2 3 4 5
Ability to converse 1 2 3 4 5
Understanding of life 1 2 3 4 5
General competence 1 2 3 4 5

4. CHARACTER ATTRACTION:

Honesty 1 2 3 4 5
High self-esteem, confidence 1 2 3 4 5
Compatibility of values 1 2 3 4 5
Emotional openness 1 2 3 4 5
Commitment to growth 1 2 3 4 5
Morality 1 2 3 4 5

5. OTHER ATTRACTION:

Family 1 2 3 4 5
Friends 1 2 3 4 5
Religious views 1 2 3 4 5
Vocational achievement 1 2 3 4 5
Financial Status 1 2 3 4 5
Magical chemistry 1 2 3 4 5

Total Score __________

SCORING KEY:

30 – 53 = Dangerously low attraction, why are you even considering this?
54 – 77 = Low attraction, probably won’t last.
78 – 101 = Average level of attraction, will need considerable tolerance and work!
102 – 125 = Healthy level of attraction, will need some nurturing.
126 – 150 = Very high attraction, good selection and a real keeper!

Note on comparing degree of mutual attraction: A difference of more than 25 points in total scores between you and your partner could signal serious lack of mutual attraction.

Hmm, and i have just been trying to get by on my good looks, who would have known i could attract a dog with alpo, thanks for letting us know that . A DOG WITH A HOTTIE OR A HOTTIE WITH A DOG, THIS POSES AN INTERESTING QUESTION. I have seen what Doombug says as well, but always assumed it was because one of them had $$$$$. maybe i was mistaken. Would love to know the real truth on this as i saw a hottie with an Ugo dude at the supermarcado today and wondered how he did it. Nice to ponder really. But i will stick to hot and hot together, just works for me better for me .

Is that not the chick from baywatch that has a history of going for dudes with $$/ cannot remember her name, but almost positive it is her.

I recognized the Beast (Salman Rushdie), but had to dig a bit to uncover who the Beauty is.

Most certainly, "Indian American model, actress and award-winning cookbook author," Padma Lakshmi.

[Edit: After reading a bit more into the Daily Mail article referenced in my previous post, it just so happens to mention (duh!) both Rushdie and Lakshmi.]

Well, maybe.

Salman Rushdie is famous and rich, though.  Although not THAT famous nor rich.

But still.

And if the whole Latina thing doesn't work out for me, looks like there's a whole subcontinent in Asia to mow through...

Hello!!

To answer your questions...here it goes...

How many trips did you make to your novia's/esposa's country before you met "the one"?   The first trip to Lima I met her

Did you travel to other countries before that?
Yes...to Colombia...about four times to Cali and twice to Bogota
How long did you court your current girlfriend/wife?
One year
How many trips down there did you take to visit her?
Four more trips over a year....proposed on the fourth trip...one year after I had met her

How often do you go back there with her?
We have gone back one time since she arrived here in July of 2005

For those of you who are married, how long have you been married?
1 year and 8 months
Were you married before to a MOB?
NO
Here is another question you may be interested in knowing..

How much was my total cost to travel to Colombia and Peru courting my wife until she arrived here?

about  $65,000

Would I do it all again???

In a heartbeat....

How many trips did you make to your novia's/esposa's country before you met "the one"?

One trip. We had been emailing and chatting on webcams for two months before I went to meet her in person.

Did you travel to other countries before that?

I had a Mexicana girlfriend before that and travelled to Mexico several times.

How long did you court your current girlfriend/wife?

Five months.

How many trips down there did you take to visit her?

First trip to meet her, second trip to get married and after we were married while waiting for the visa 3 more trips.

How often do you go back there with her?

We have not been back in three years. Hope to go back soon.

For those of you who are married, how long have you been married?

Three and a half years.

Were you married before to a MOB?

No.

Just curious, 65,000 , is that a joke or a real number ????? I mean, i went to Cali 5 trips including getting married , and bringing her here and it was maybe 12K at most. I just do not see how 65K can be spent unless you are 5* everything. This is not a shot over the bow, but i am seriously curious to know how you arrived at that number ?
