So am I hosed or not on this?
« on: March 23, 2007, 10:16:41 PM »
I'm an agnostic, vaguely liberal, and don't really want children.

Yeah, I know, I'm everything that is wrong with America.  ;)  I kid, I kid.

Has anyone run into Latinas that are not religious or do not want children?  Or do you think trying to find a Latina for me would be as frustrating as finding an AW?

To clarify:  I like Latina culture and their looks, what I hate about AW is their laundry lists, materialism/golddiggers, 5000 single moms that expect me to raise someone else's kids, better-than-you attitude, and ingrained selfishness.  Obviously this is my opinion...

Any thoughts would be welcome.

religion is a non-issue yet try to avoid the subject because they won't dig agnostic. kids is another matter. they either have kids or are going to pressure you into wanting them. Have you considered Thailand?

Well, it's fairly far away cost-wise, and I'm not sure I have as much in common with Thai girls.  OTOH, one thing I've learned in life, is one has to be flexible.

It's an alternative, certainly.  I appreciate the advice.

EDITED TO ADD:  I've dated a half dozen or so Asian women here in the US and with maybe one exception, they were materialistic to the core.  A couple were also racists, which was disturbing.  I mean, who disses black people and Hispanic people on a first date?

Admittedly none were Thai.  Is the Thai culture different in that respect from than Chinese/Taiwanese/Japanese?

go to latin america and just be upfront about it. be sure however to line up a bunch of intros cause only a small % will be able to deal with no kids. yet it is doable especially if the chica digs you. If you are willing to go older, it will be less of an issue. If you want a young hottie however, most are going to want to push out little bambinos. comes with the territory

I wouldn't go for anyone under 30, 27 at the very low end.  OTOH, I've run into AW who's biological clocks were running out at 37-39.  That could be an issue as well.  Or did you mean go for over-40s?

Hi Chris,
POV on this is that one function of religion in poor (of which i add i am a beliver for sure) is to offer many of the belivers a better afterlife in heaven. They have limited or no means in this life and have (for generations) lost aspirations. But they believe. It may be a non issue, though if you find one and fall in-love you may consider at least going through the motions and keeping your thoughts on this to yourself. We as northamericanos have the world at our fingertips, we really do. They, on the other hand, need the comfort that with their belief, there is an afterlife in heaven. Just an observation from someone who is a beliver.

Chris, for me going old is 19....lol! well, at 30 you are going to run into less of an issue on the kids thing. listen to mecca on religion, just keep it to yourself and tell them you believe. leave it at that. they normally won't push the issue.

Hey, I'm all in favor of an afterlife!  ;D   Just doubt there is one.  I agree with you, BTW.

I was raised Catholic and I'm fairly comfortable with the ceremonies.  Not sure about going to church every week though....  Once a month would be okay.

Another reason I like the Latina route is that I think it would be fairly easy for them to cope here.  I live in Texas, and while we've got a good sized Asian population here (and quite a few from the FSU), a Latina wouldn't need to speak English to get a job or fit in at all.

And we say that “women” are scammers?   ???

This is a dishonest way to start a relationship.  If carried through to an actual wedding, this is called “marriage fraud”.

In general, most people aren’t devout in their religious practices anyway, so it’s not like finding someone with a nonchalant attitude toward religion is a difficult thing to do.

For certain, it’s far better to simply be upfront and honest with your feelings on the issue of religion.

As far as the “kids” thing goes, there are many women who look gorgeous over 40 who may have adult or near-adult children.  Would that work for you?

Well, wish I could give a definitive answer.  I wouldn't reject a early 40s woman (I'm 37).  I'd hope for a younger model, though!  ;D

Chris,
I may be in error regarding the religion. I think the other poster is a preacher and would thus be on far higher moral ground than I am. He would have the better advice there. As for the women, i'm a couple of years younger than you and you need to go see for yourself. I like the 20-25 range there.

that is why they call themselves agnostic vs atheist...it leaves a little room to swivel the hips on the issue

Sorry, I don't want to get into a religious war here, but that's not true.  I cannot logically prove there is a god, but I also cannot logically prove that there is NOT a god.  Therefore, I'm not an atheist.

Just clarifying, not arguing.  :)

Don't sweat the religous issue. Even the religous Latinas have a "live and let live" attitude regarding religion. As for older women, there are a lot of Latinas in their late 30s and early 40s who are knockouts. This pic of my wife was taken when she was 42 and she hasn't changed much in the last 4 years.

The woman is like a female Dorian Grey - she doesn't seem to age at all. Here are several more photos:

and a little movie she did back then (she and a friend screwed up the sound so there's no sound):

I am a life long atheist and registered as such on my Colombian cedula. My wife like the overwhelming majority in Colombia was raised Catholic and we had a typical Catholic church wedding in Cali. In our interviews with the priest I said I was “sin religion” which were magic words that made it all go smoothly. We simply had to apply to the archbishop’s office for a “difference of religion permission” which was quickly granted. Had I declared myself Baptist or any other religion that competes with Catholicism we would have faced great difficulty getting permission to marry in a Catholic church. As other´s have said don´t sweat the religious issue unless the woman is evangelical, Jehova´s Witness etc. Colombian women have a lot more to worry about (read $) than hubbie´s religion.

Good info, man.  May I ask how long you have been married to her?

CV, i agree that they have more to worry about but most will at least ask if you believe. At least that has been my experience. Either way, it is not a show stopper in my opinion.

My wife is very religuious, and she belives in the church, she goes to church every sunday. She went to nun school for 7 years. I am a proestant by birth, i am a non practising, non religuious 35yo, we have two kids. Religion is NEVER a topic in our family, we respect the other persons choice.

My wife sister, is married to a turk, he is muslim.. NO problem either, and they also have a child.

The issue of not wanting to have a kid, and being latina, is tough! Maybe if you find a hardcore career lady, who only works, eat, and have wild sex with you, maybe then you might get away with not having kids, otherwise, its an almost impossibility.
