Great Travel Info for Colombia!!!!
« on: February 11, 2007, 12:07:41 PM »
I was browsing and came across a site called

www.blacksheepmedellin.com

which is a hostal in Medellin run by a New Zealand expat.  Anyway, there is a gread deal of info on off the beaten track destinations (click on Colombia Travel and Info), with photos and very detailed info re transport.  There is also an article on safety in Colombia, and it seems this guy's opinion on Colombia after he has lived there for five years is in stark contrast to that of Jamie.

Quite a dreamy place they've got there.

But wasn't Jamie discussing issues of character and problems with the infrastructure? Everyone is in agreement that crime has dropped under the new Pres.

Well, it is not a dremy place, it is a hostel.  I think I stated that in the original post.

I was not recommending it per se anyway, just wanted to point out the interesting travel info on that site.

I know. I was subtly using a crack-house analogy. (See, apples-to-oranges.)

It goes something like this: Your crack house--the backpacker's crack house--is different from Jamie's crack house.

A backpacker in a hostel. An agency owner in the MOB industry.

Two different crack houses.

Jamie's crack house:

That backpacker's crack house:

One is concerned less with the people and its culture than in hiking the most pristine locales. While the other is concerned with the idiosyncrasies of the LA woman--though equally fond of certain hills and valleys. (Pun surely intended. ;D)

Peace wit ya!

Colombian travelling is safe for U.S. Citizens as long as they know what they are doing. It is true that travelling to Colombia can be risky, but I query whether or not this is more so for American Citizens. Lots of argue that it is.

It's an old thread so the reference to the president must have been Alvaro Uribe.

I saw El Ruso's name and thought maybe he returned from Siberia.  I think he should at least update his avatar.
