panama travel (for colombians)
« on: February 06, 2007, 10:08:59 AM »
sorry if this has been asked before, but what exactly besides a passport is required for my novia to travel to panama?? i heard somewhere that colombians need to put up $500US bond? She is checking into it today but i'd thought i'd ask here if anyone has the straight poop. Also, what do i need to buy her a ticket?? just her complete name?

1. Typically, to buy her a ticket, you have to be traveling with her, so be aware of that.  Otherwise, you will have to wire her money and have her buy the ticket herself.

2. Why Panama?  Colombians can go sans visa to Ecuador or Brazil, and I think both are a lot more fun and interesting.

Re Panama, I live in Miami, and could reasonably go there for a weekend.  I never did.  First of all, supposedly it is very hot.  Secondly, tickets are ridiculously expensive everywhere I looked.  And it doesn't have anything compelling to see.  It has a small old town built by the French and you can see the docks on the canal, and some ruins of Portobello.  I would probably go there someday, but it would not be my #1 destination.

If I would want to take the girl abroad, I would take her to Ecuador.  It would be a lot cheaper, better climate, a LOT more to see and do, more than likely a nicer country.  And Brazil would be far more interesting than Panama too IMO.

Not that Panama is bad, but if you have better choices, why Panama?  As in, if you can go to San Francisco or New York, why go to Kansas City?  Also, generally it is the guy doing invitation and deciding where he goes with the girl, not the other way around, unless she is paying for it.

Also...

If all she wants is cheap shoes, tell her that you will take her to "El Hueco" when you see her so she can by some clothes.

"right, you never did"

Right, it is cheaper to fly to Medellin for example.  There is a million other places.  Panama is not the most interesting destination, unless you are there for business, or have friends or family.  Mexico is a lot more interesting destination, most of South America, Europe even, a million other places in the world.  Why would I go to Panama if there are so many more interesting places to go?  I could see for example Switzerland, or Panama - hmm, difficult choice  ;)  I have not been to so many exciting places in the world, and I should be wasting my time on Panama?  After I see South America, Europe, India, Far East, Egypt, then I might go to Panama.  Also why would I go to Panama if I can meet beautiful girls in Colombia and actually spend significantly less for fare and hotel, and enjoy better climate?

Regarding her wanting you to buy her things, that is the type you seem to attract.  I mean if you gave her the camera the first time for a couple of dates, what is stopping you to give her shoes for a few more days of her time?  Just take her to El Hueco, it's like a mall, and she can buy whatever she wants.

Fare from MIA to Panama is always higher than Colombia and most other Latin American cities.  I never said that there is nothing to see in Panama, it is just not the #1 destination, and there are a lot of other places that have more to see than Panama.

I like Panama, the night life, beachs are great and of course the canal in interesting.  With Copa or American its an easy trip for a weekend.  Maybe I am partial since I have a condo there, but I would recommend it.

Of couse the factory where the beautiful girls are made is in Medillin, so its hard not to go to the source when your hunting for a new one.

All I know of for colombians to travel to Panama is a 90 day turist card for $5 and a colombian passport.  I have never heard of anything else.

i like panama too. I like the food at Costa Azul and the cigar bar across from the Marriott.

my novia told me yesterday she needed $250.000 for a passport and DAS, yet I am sure she padded the bill. ??? I am leaning on NOT sending 1 centavo even though my advisory committee has given me conflicting advice.

She padded, I am sure.  As I said if you expect a woman to sleep with you by offering her a $100 camera, why can't she ask for something else next time?  You set the precedent and the nature of the relationship.  It was your idea in the first place to treat her this way and to set this sort of basis for your relationship, she accepted your offer, and now you have to play by your own rules.  Also, why do you ask the same questions, and always do the opposite of what the majority has been kind to advise to you?  What was the purpose of you asking and expounding in the first place?

Ruso, you distort the facts, are disrespectful, obnoxious, and suffer from tunnel vision. There is no point in trying to discuss these things with you since you have already formed your own preconceived notions as Jamie has also pointed out to you in another thread.

OK, Papi, my bad.  I distorted the facts.  I do have tunnel vision.  Well, let me make it up to both of you.

This girl is pure gold.  She loves you, has opened her heart and soul to you.  Her dream since childhood has been to selflessly cater to you.  Whenever she mentiones shoes in Panama she is really just joking as she wants nothing from you save to fulfill your dreams and bear your children.  In fact if you offer any gifts to her, she will return them and insist that if you owned nothing, she would love you just the same.

Good luck to both of you, and I hope you will have a loving family together.
