Thanks for the excellent, thoughtful and wise description (which I just read) of your lady and how she meets your needs.

Knowing yourself and what you were looking for so well, I can now understand how you were able to find the life partner of your dreams in a mere 72 hours.

Of course, it doesn't hurt to have the Big Guy on your side.

Congratulations & blessings,

John O.

Amen...John O...we share common values and goals, that's the biggie IMO.  She and the kids come as a package, and I approached it that way.  She's done an excellent job raising the children, so it made the task go smoothly.

We found a lot about each other on the second trip that dealt with deep-seeded character issues by spending gobs of time together with her and her relatives over the holidays.  The Latin Culture is slower, relaxed...absolutely no rat race.  Respect for each other, familia, neighbors, her employees, was continuous through the 18 days.. There were no dips and several high points looking back, but I honestly can say I enjoyed and/or grew personally every minute there..a constant stream of communication, mutual respect, giving & learning from each other.  The American lifestyle is sooooo superficial compared my experience in Cali.  A very 'spiritual' experience, indeed.  No sarcasm (never, ever use it with a SA latina you care about...IMO), no put downs, gentle kidding and regular doses of humor were freely given by everyone.

A fast way to her heart  is to make her laugh at no one else's expense and show respect for everyone at all times.  A foreign experience in the USA (and somewhat frequently on this forum) to me.

The congregation she attends was icing on the cake; there were several bilingual members there to plug into and make me feel welcome.  Once again, I saw very little superficiality at church services; people were plugging into each other and to God -- that's why they were there.   Way cool.

Sounds like Little House on the Prairie. Believe it or not, life in the old USA is not all about money and material possessions although it may seem that way on the East and West Coasts. I get very suspicious when anyone paints Colombia as some kind of idyllic paradise compared to the bad old USA. I've been married to a Colombiana for almost four years and spent quite a bit of time in Colombia. Life for many Colombians is far more of a rat race than it is here with severe economic pressures.

I concur with utopiacowboy. The rat race is alive and well in Colombia. My ex in Bogota graduated Valedictorian from UniValle and worked independently as an Accountant. She was sweatin' 30.06 once because the govt. was set to levy a hefty penaly against her and a partner for an error they made with the books. Nervous wreck for almost a week. Everything ain't comin' up smellin' like Colombian roses.

Nevertheless, congrats and wellwishes for your and your lovely lady.

Both Utopia Cowboy and Parlay Rey are not in synch with this thread.  (if you disagree, do a search for any of the words and phrases used in Utopia Cowboy's first two sentences. None of that verbiage or anything near it appears from my entries)

Note: By me pointing this out, some posters with mucho stars will be of the opinion that I am "defensive".  Bull. I just don't take their crap.

Nothing I have written on this thread had ANYTHING to do with the economic situation or the general standard of living in Colombia.  EVERYTHING that I wrote about was the emotional, communication give & take and spiritual dimensions of our relationship and the differences thereof within my experience in the USA.

To make matters worse for the Cowboy, et al, my Cali Diamond is 'self employed', which means what she makes is entirely up to her efforts and the macro economics of Cali are irrelevant to her and this thread.

There were NO implications to others that things were hunky dorey for ** everyone ** in Cali.  Comments regarding the economy or economic stability in Cali are off target of this thread.

If Utopia Cowboy et al, wish to discuss the economic aspects of Colombia, please start a different thread, they are not relevant to this one.  ...Of course, the depreciation of the US dollar (and the projected future depreciation of the USD of another 13% in the next 12 months by currency experts) compared to the Colombian peso has NO implication to the strength of the Colombian economy (sic).

And, of course, the soaring real estate market in Medellin and the serious building boom in the southern area of Cali (and other places in Cali) are also not indicative of a strong economy either! (sic).  Again, take it to a different thread.

Guys, take your negativity and off topic stuff somewhere else.  The purpose of this thread is to discuss aspects of the early stages of my relationship with my Cali Diamond and her family.

It's funny that new posters come along and are "on topic" regarding my thread and more than one 'old pro' (always with a bunch of stars  -- ie., they are experienced and should know better how to stay on topic) are off topic, negative and engage in personal attacks.  You know who you are.

And, the implication goes further.  Many of these new posters drop out of making future comments because of.....?  See preceding paragraph, IMO.  I've felt the same way as many others, IMO.  If you disagree, great, start another thread, and we can go at it there.

Anyway, to those that are on topic and may offer constructive criticism or feedback, thanks...to those that engage in the above behavior, you're ignored by me and probably others that want to discuss and offer info and opinions that may be useful to those considering or interested in the MOB topic du jour.

Months, years from now, this ON TOPIC info could prove useful to a forum participant that is looking for any morsel of constructive guidance.  Maybe some is in here, maybe it will help one or more guys, who knows

Chow!

Just to be sure, no one can respond to anything in your posts if: A) you construe it to be negative or argumentative; B) the respondant is multi-starred; C) the response addresses anything but your Cali Diamond.

Personally, I have a terrible habit of responding to anyone that knocks the U.S. Call me nationalistic (which many in SA, with their [fill in the blank] pride, can be guilty of too), but I had to choke  my nutsack with a strap wrench to keep from responding to your previous comment on American superficiality.

We don't have a monopoly on it, by the way. Quite the contrary:

Quote
WORLD: Europeans tend to lecture U.S. residents about "American individualism" that purportedly leads to selfishness. Do Europeans or Americans tend to be more personally charitable?

BROOKS: We do hear this criticism frequently: Americans are consumerists, capitalists, individualists, and thus uninterested in the good of others. But this assertion falls apart when exposed to even the smallest bit of evidence. In per capita private charity, Americans give three and a half times as much as the French, seven times as much as the Germans, and 14 times as much as the Italians. To give an idea how much Americans give, consider the fact that American annual charitable giving exceeds the entire GDP of many European countries, such as Norway and Denmark. Of course, Europeans often note that they have more generous government welfare systems than America. That's mostly true, but should not be confused with giving. Government welfare and private charity are very different things.

..help me tie in American charitable giving and the possible superficiality between men and women in America...I'm struggling trying to tie the two points together....(scratch of my balding head...).

Oh five-starred forum poster, where did I criticize the American government, economy, Constitution or whatever?  Where did I say it was less desirable than Colombia, oh five-starred one?

The chances of me meeting a Colombian latina that subscribes to 'traditional family values' is significantly greater than me meeting a single woman in the USA and/or Europe that holds to those concepts.  Yup, I'm sayin' it.  Does that put down America or American women?  Not in my book, just not my (and thousands of other American guys) cup of tea.  Do you agree Doombug?

Hey Daytrader, I have more stars than you do. Are you jealous?

Dear moderators,

Could you please take two of my stars and give them to Daytrader so I don't have to listen to this childish whining about who has more stars than he does? Thanks...

Daytrader, seriously, you need to relax and stop getting all excited over this stuff. Just because you start a thread doesn't mean that you own everything and everyone in it.

I have a question....if 80% plus people in Cali (I'm guessing here) don't have a car/motorcycle -- how do they participate in a rat race?  They have to wait for a bus (then the bus has to deal with traffic then walk home/or to the grocery store) or walk or pedal a bike or use a horse-drawn cart (rarely seen but appreciated), ergo no rat race.  If it takes all day to get up, go to work, work, go to store, go home, cook dinner, play with the kids...that's not a rat race, right?  That's just plain life (and if riding the bus or walking), that's life in the slow lane.  ergo, no rat race, right?

If you define a rat race as "money is tight", that's everywhere...always somebody is trying to take away what you earn...tell me something new!

Damn, Dude- you ARE defensive. . . .
And sometimes downright hostile. You need to relax and not take things so personally.

And- please remember, you are only speaking for yourself. You do not speak for thousands of other men by any stretch of the imagination.

Just reread the TOS and lets all just move on. If you dont like the reponses, ignore them. . . . .

If and when I find my own Lima Zirconium, I hope she's medically trained. That way, when I'm hanging out with you guys in my retirement years, she'll know how to handle medical situations like this.

Just messing with ya. :P

I´d say you´re guessing wrong and that with the exception of Agua Blanca and the other strata 0 barrios 80% of caleños do have cars or motos. The horse drawn carts by the way are "carretillas" and they are used for delivering materials or hauling away construction ruble. They´re not anybody´s "transportation".

Funny that you ask, but I can't remember if there was any pain. Upon awaking from the lapse of consciouness, said sackage was swollen and had a yellowish-purple tone to it. But after being on ice for a few hours, and after administering a shot of cortisone, the natural colors returned.

Daytrader,

I'm not sure of the percentage, but many, many people who live and work in New York City, Manhattan, etc. don't own cars, take public transportation, etc.  And New York City is NOT a rat race??

Regarding your hostility here...just an observation...you seem to be very hot headed, short tempered, and lacking in patience, with a tad of jealousy thrown in for good measure.  Has this been a problem in the past as far a maintaining a relationship with a woman?  And do you see it as a potential problem with your Cali Diamond in the future??  You have a long row to hoe in this relationship, and it is still in its infancy.  Hopefully when the problems do arise (they always do in relationships) your short temper and bi-polar attitude won't ruin things. :(

Thanks KP2...You might want to check out my trip report "How I found my Cali Diamond in 72 Hours..."

If you need a good driver/interpreter in Cali, I recommend Oscar; his email is leo_xv@yahoo.com -- he is the best!  My success, in large part, is due to his efforts, especially on the 2nd trip!

DayTrader

Thanks DT, I am fluent. I read your trip report and I reiterate my congratulations to you. I hope everything works well between you and your cali diamond. You definitely look very happy together and that is what counts the most, your happiness.

I could always use a new contact for a good driver. Thanks for Oscars info, I'll look him up when I am in Cali next time.

I think you will be pleased with Oscar KP2, just don't use him much when I am in town!  LOL

Yeah things go well with my Cali Diamond (that good news aggravates the hell  out of some of these forum posters), I plan on monthly trips down to Cali and probably staying down there during the summer, since it is so hot in Miami.

Why would you imagine that things going well with your girlfriend would aggravate some PL posters? Personally I hope you have as happy a relationship as I have with my wife with whom I am still very much in love after several years of marriage.

Ditto for me, I think I've expressed that sentiment in my prior posts.
Daytrader, are you sure you are mature enough to enter a relationship with a women who has 2 children??  I'm beginning to wonder.
Good Luck ???
