Looks like I am a little late, but I just wanted to say that if you post them, someone (I) will be reading them.

I had a couple of months where I felt completely burnt out on Spanish. I actually began considering Asia because they usually speak English, but that didn't last long. I'm ready to start taking in some new words and begin fresh again.

What site are you getting this from? Do they just send out a vocab list once a month or are you signed up for some sort of lessons?

Nice list. Here are some common usage options in Colombia:

gallanazo-vulture
marano-pig
nuche-botfly
torcaza-the common doves in Cali
culebra-snake
serpiente-poisonous snake
trompa-is used for the snout of a dog, cat etc.
caracol-most often used for shell is also a snail
pata-is used for animal feet, pie for humans
pavo-is turkey but more coomon is bimbo, pavo also used for Guans
cabra-is also chivo
Ladrar-is never used by country people. They mispronounce it and say: el perro late
Establo-stable but also caballariza
pichones-are the baby birds in the nido

'Del' is contraction of 'de el' (of the) , one of the very few contractions that Spanish has. If I remember correctly, the only other one is 'al' which is 'a el' (to the or toward the) and although it is grammatically incorrect, often you will hear a Mexican say 'pa' (and even sometimes 'paa') when he means 'para' (for or toward). Don't capitalise the days nor the months.

In written Spanish, many things aren't capitalized: days of the week, months of the year, names of languages, adjectives of nationality, to name a few that come to mind right off.

can we cut and paste? The expressions are good but i feel it would be better to have a thread with just the lessons i get monthly so i and others can study those. Then a second thread with just expressions. CV/Mal/Sol..it would be great if we could have a thread of dichos de colombia y otra piases, si?. I was listening to Mexican radio yesterday and they call their station la casa de chulo...Sol and i once got in a big private debate on that one. it would be good for starters. for example, papichulo can be used with affection in colombia but is vulgar in peru
