Back from Peru and my little experiment
« on: January 05, 2007, 05:02:11 PM »
Hello all
Back from Peru after 3 weeks. Had a great time with the family at Christmas and spent new years on the beach camping. Spent $300 on overweight and acces baggage - Papa Noel is alive and well and he lives in St. Louis  ;D

Thanks to ChrisF for the very nice dinner. It was nice to meet him and his Peruvian wife. Its funny how you might have a perception of someone on line and then you get to hang out with them. ChrisF is a great guy with a nice Peruana wife.
I have now met two gringos from this board and I can guarantee you that RedClay and KurtF are stand up guys.

I spent most of my time with family and friends. We looked at some other areas in Lima and always stayed busy.

I did do a little experiment with language and single women.

I know my wife's cousins after 3 years now pretty well. They both speak real basic english and my spanish is pretty limited. So we were sitting around having a beer and I decided to "interview" them. They agreed to play along (my wife was there). I was motivated to do this by a recent poster on this board. So I acted like I knew nothing about them and decided to see what I could tell from limited english and body language. I asked several questions and I can only tell you that I couldnt really get anything out of them that actually indicated their true personality. There are two girls both 25-27 and one likes to party and one is more of a home body. Both have jobs but are very different. I didnt take notes but I can tell you that once i started the "interview" the girls completly changed and without my wife translating thay became very stiff and different. I could not pull anything out of them that would reveal their true personality. So take this for what you want. I am just very lucky that my wife had good english skills. Always be aware that without real conversation and lots of time together you are fooling no one but yourself. If I did not know these girls in real life I would NEVER have been able to learn ONE real thing about them in an "interview".

I know a lot of us guys think we are so smart and we have great careers etc. One word of advise is done under estimate how smart women can be when it comes to getting what they want. You and your 40 years of life experience might not be enough.

And while I am on a ramble here.... it seems no one really mentions here enough just how important it is for the girl to be happy. I know we are the power brokers here, the almighty gringo with his dolares! What I have learned in my experience is that if momma is not happy that daddy ain't gonna be happy!
Just keep that in mind if you are wife shopping.

And by the way you might be calling all the shots in the "interview" process but that that coin flips that day she moves in with you. Just an FYI

OK I am done with my rants.

I miss Peruvian food. I dont care if I never eat another frozen pizza in my life. If I never had to sit in Miami airport again I would be happy. I miss having my feet powdered every morning. I miss buying fresh bread, I miss the family and the activity. I miss Peru .... and my crazy mother in law ;)

Welcome back Jimmy!  Sounds like you had a good trip. Sorry to hear about the Miami airport, I'll be spending quite a bit of time there between flights next month. How long did it take you to clear customs in miami?  I gave myself five hours between flights just to be safe as I've heard and read many horror stories about this airport.

Its not the airport thats really bad it just the lay over is huge for us.
Lima is the last flight out to SA at night and coming back is also about a 7 hour layover.
The customs people have actually been quite nice in Miami.

We actually rented a car in Maimi on the way back and drove to South Beach. We spent about 4 hours there and that was enough for me. Maybe the night scene there is really cool but the area itself looks a little over rated.

Hey Jimmy!!!

Thanks for the kind words and it was wonderful having a great evening with you and your lovely wife as well.

This trip to be honest I was ready to go home!!!  I was really getting tired of the "third world conditions" (getting sick didn't help either) My wife wanted to stay an extra five days...but since we had spent about 6k for this trip including air, hotel, food gifts etc...I said its time to come home!!...lol

Te Amo Peru...but I AM HAPPY TO BE BACK IN THE USA!!!

Nice observation, Jimmy.

And it's great to see the Peruvian Wives Club still chuggin' along (one black sheep excepted ;D).

What's up with the feet powdering?  Is that a Peru thing?  My Colombiana wife gets me manicures and pedicures, but am I missing out on something else?

Please clarify...  ???  :D

The foot powder thing can be done here in the US but it loses some of its charm.

JLO says its to keep your feet from sweating and stinking. It does seem to work pretty well and it seems to keep your feet cleaner.

Depends on what powder she is using. My eyebrows go up when I see clorox or Borax. . .. .  ;D
