Latin Hunter,

On Monday I'll post some pics of the place I'm buying (or trying to buy).  The pics are in my office computer.  It's only on 6 acres, but it's similar to what you might be looking for.

hello just to provide some useful information.

the bank Davivienda provides one of the easiest ways of bringing money into the country. for example if you have a credit or debit card you can talk to your bank (eg.Citibank) and make cash advances of up to 10 million pesos (about 4000 USD) per card daily. this is easier if you have a bank account in Davivienda.

If you have any questions feel free to cantact me.

What about wire transfers?

What about sending the money to yourself through Western Union or MoneyGram?

great info vlad, and yes Davivienda makes it easier to send money to Colombia.

Montrealer, the problem with Western Union is, you can only receive up to $ 2000 each wire, anything over that they have to issue you a check for the rest, for example, if you wire $ 3000,they'll give you the $ 2000 (in pesos), but the remaining $1000 has to be issued in the form of a check.  Plus Western Union's rate of exchange isn't that hot, and they charge a fortune.  I rarely use them anymore.  Only in an emergency.  Don't know about money gram.

I just used MoneyGram 2 weeks ago, and I got a fair rate.  For 1 CDN$ they gave me 2217.90, when xe.com says the rate is like 2235.70, so it was respectable.

And even if MoneyGram or Western Union issued a check, it might still be okay if you can get yourself a bank account or maybe put it through your girlfriends/wives name.

And what about bank to bank wire transfers?  I know wires from Canada and the US and vice versa have no restrictions no matter the amount, whether you're sending or receiving.  Has anyone tried to wire money into Colombia.  It should be easy now with the SWIFT network.

Yes, Montrealer, I've wired a (what I consider) alot of money to Colombia, bank to bank.  Usually Bank of America charges $45 per wire transaction no matter the amount, but they waive that for me since I have a good relationship with them.  For that reason I rarely use Western Union anymore.  For large amounts you need to send some documentation on what the money is for and the source of the money, ie, bank statements, and tax returns, in order for the bank to release the funds.  They also give the going exchange rate.
