I was "planning" my second trip to Colombia for late summer/early fall 2012.  But a job offer came out of the blue that was too good to pass up.  So I am leaving my old job and starting a new gig soon.  I will have one week off between jobs so I either go to Colombia between gigs in early July or "wait" until much later in the year when I have built up some goodwill with my new employer.   [I am psyched that the new company has an office in So. America, though not in Colombia.]

The only downsides I see in going on such short notice are: 1) I pay a little more for the plane ticket; 2) less time to work with an agency and internet sites to set up dates; and 3)  IF I meet a lady that is worth returning for I will probably not be able to get back to Colombia until late November (due to the new job, etc).

My name is NOT really Hector but I do dig Salsa and can even dance Salsa (though not Colombian sytle).  I love the Calena look.  Salsa + Calenas = thinking about trying Cali.

just my opinion, but i would wait because with a new job, you might not get to go back for quite a while and no girl is gonna wait around for some guy that says he will return "soon". lots of guys go down, plan to return soon and never do, due to work or family ect. nov is a long time to expect some girl to hang around and most dont. they change boyfriends like underwear jajajajaj

I say go!
You never know how it will turn out. You don't know if you'll find someone who is worth going back for or not. Even if you do, you then don't know if she will willing to wait or not.
Also you don't know what will happen in the new job. You could easily be back within 6 months for a quick trip. Who knows?
In other words there are far too many unknowns to worry about. Go then see what happens.

The other thing you can be certain about is that the time will never be 'right'. Trust me. 'The right time' will never arrive.

Cali is great.
They wont have a clue about linea style salsa.
They dance a folkloric style. It is sort of side to side. Compared to linear style it is much easier to get started. If you can dance OK linea style then you'll figure Colombian style out within 10 minutes. You'll be bored within an hour.
Instead of lienea, move side to side but step back on 1 and 4. Increadibly easy. Also very boring compared to linea style. Which is why they have rapid steps and toss the girl around and stuff in Cali. I'm gonna assume you are not going to do that stuff.
Any way just being able to dance and be willing to dance is all you need. The girls will love it.
Salsa is everywhere in Cali.

Good luck!

My advice is go now....just to see if Cali is for you.

What are the odds of finding the "ONE" in a week anyway....and even if you do hook up with a nice one....it is better to have loved and lost than never having had the chance.

jajaja Well you get the idea....live it up now.

You might try the I had an trip all scheduled routine... paid for flight, hotel, etc already. In my experience with hiring the employees I am looking at tend to already have a career and a life going... especially in the summer I wouldn't be surprised if they had a vacation planned.
Retiring in Tela, Honduras is 14,600 days (haha)

I'll second Callipro's advice, just to go to see if it's right for you.  Don't make any promises to anybody while you're there.  But go experience it to see if you're a match.

I will do this if I change jobs this year.

Not a bad idea BCC_1_2.  Wish I had thought of that when I accepted the position.
