The purpose of the petition, if we get enough signatures, is to make an effort to get the attention of Congressmen and Senators to re-consider, offer a repeal or amendment, and hold a hearing. My senator here in Pennsylvania is Arlen Spector (R-PA), Chairman of Senate Judiciary Committee.
The petition also helps us to express our view, gather support (and a database) in support of the cause, and measure that support. My petition also allows comments by the signatories who have put forth some ideas and arguments against the law worth considering. The petition results may also be a factor to aid in any future possible legal challenge to the law.
