Allow me to introduce meself, I'm Paul from Canada, eh?
I'm 39, soon to be 40 (
), blissfully divorced and full-time (24/7) dad to two, girl 11, boy 7, for close to 7 years now (boy was 11 months at the time). I'm here because what with the kids I get bored, seeing as how my free time is what happens at home after they're asleep. And when I get bored, after a while I start doing things, in this case I joined Latin American Cupid a month back to start chatting up Latinas, following advice I got on Gringos.com (I was Paulywog there, for a while) a couple of years ago.
I am interested in Latinas because a buddy of mine in my master's program (many moons ago) was from Mexico, and he set me up teaching English in his home town (Queretaro), which I did for 5 months in 1997, becoming quite fluent in Spanish, fitting in quite nicely and getting along great with the folks there, in particular las chicatas lindas. I am brunette here, but blonde there, and I learned something very important, blondes DO have more fun, lots and lots of it! Leaving there was one of the dumbest things I ever did.
After that I spent a year in Thailand at an NGO as part of an internship, where I did THE dumbest thing I ever did, which was knock up a girl I was having fun with and then doing the honourable thing of marrying her and bringing her here. Looking back at it all, it's not so much that the pregnancy was unplanned, it's just that the planning process excluded me completely, for obvious reasons. Which might not have been the end of the world, except for one tiny detail that came out shortly after she arrived; she's a sociopath. Now, lots of people say that about there ex, but how many have it in writing in a court-ordered psychological examination? And how often does it happen that, based on said psych exam, a woman gets only supervised access to her kids for two hours every other week for three years? Did I mention how friggin' happily divorced I am? All of which I mention for a couple of reasons: 1) if you want to give someone looking at asians a big-ass reality check, send them to me, 2) If anyone needs advice on dealing with horribly biased family courts, I can't guarantee anything, but I was able to get justice from them for my kids, so I might have something useful to say to you.
So, anyways, a while ago after not finding much around town (I'm not 'settling' for what's available anymore, and what's available is absolutely crap-tastic), one night in a state of stupefication (probably alcohol induced) it occurred to me that I really got along well with them there Mexican girls, they liked me (even after knowing full well I wasn't some rich gringo), and equally/more importantly their parents liked me (yep, I know the drill, I met a few papas, even had a friend who wanted me to date his much younger red-headed daughter, have I mentioned yet that leaving Mexico was one of the stupidest things I ever did), so I figured that as long as I'm searching the Internet for a woman, why not look a bit further abroad, where my market value is still a wee bit higher?
So I looked into it for a bit, then got caught up in some paternal duties (namely my daughter has a lot of issues to deal with thanks to mommy dearest), but as things improved got back into the search, Latin American Cupid to be precise, where after a month I have a few good leads, concentrated in Colombia and Peru, but a bit from all over. Since it's been so long since I've been in Latin America, and my direct experience went no further south than Mexico, I figured this would be a good place to get some solid advice. Don't let me down!
