New Rules of Conduct
« on: June 18, 2006, 03:16:00 AM »
Note:  It's your site but I don't appreciate you moving my post that I made earlier to a place noone will read it.  Leave it in Latin General forum please!

I reset my Goodwife password today and shortly after doing so received an email with a link to the Rules & Agreement terms.

Here it is:  http://www.goodwife.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=557

What a bunch of legalize.  I feel like I need to consult a lawyer when reading this document.  What happened to Patrick's simple set of rules?  If it's not broken don't fix it!!  Geez....  Also I had to laugh when I read this paragraph "You agree to refrain from posting anything which contains any ethnic, racial, religious, or political commentary - especially those comments which may be interpreted by others as being offensive or insulting."    New owner of PL, is this really the direction you want to be heading?  I personally think you've gone too far.

Thanks Dan but I don't think the "Forum News" section is particularly popular but I appreciate you trying to give my post a larger audience.

No problem. I probably should have left a re-direct so that you would know. Next time I'll know better.

We need to find a way to quell those kinds of behaviors, or at least outline what is accepted behavior - and that is what the TOS does.

Importantly, the TOS does NOT prevent or preclude anyone from making their points and vigorously debating the issues which are important to them. They need only to take a moment to break from the passions of their argument to make sure they are attacking relevant issues.

I don't believe this is too much to ask.

Cali James response:

I disagree, it does prevent a person from discussing the issues that are important to them if one of the issues happens to be religion, race, or politics.  These are some of my favorite subjects to post about and in many cases they due have relevance to dating and marriage to Latinas.  If your view is that these aren't appropriate subjects in all cases then your view is narrow.  You stated that we are supposed to refrain from posting ANYTHING that contains ethnic, racial, religious or political commentary.  Note that you wrote "anything" and since you've taken great pains to choose your words very carefully in this agreement, I can only assume you really mean what you are saying and anything means anything.  So yes IMO I think you are asking way too much and IMO you're departing from long held practices here at Planet-Love.  Now its your choice to make these departures but you should expect to be challenged on them.  I personally think you're making a big mistake.  Patrick had a relatively short list of things that he didn't approve of and he was fair in their application.  If it's not broken, don't fix it!!

Debate and discussion about race, religion and politics are allowed within the confines of them being relevant to the theme of the site.

Well thats good Dan but thats not what your new rules state.  Let me repeat your own rules again ""You agree to refrain from posting ANYTHING which contains any ethnic, racial, religious, or political commentary - especially those comments which may be interpreted by others as being offensive or insulting."

It may not have been broken but it was in need of improvement. You have a small number of misfits here that have been allowed to ramble recklessly including an anonymous coward with an addiction to attacking almost everyone under a variety of aliases. These deviants put off others with legitimate experiences from wanting to post and they should be removed. In the past you could make any charge of any nature and absolutely nothing was done about it. I would prefer an environment for friendly discourse and information exchange a cleaning is in order.

I read elsewhere that Soltero was banned I hope this was a mistake. It should be announced when and why someone is banned and one should be warned of any infraction.
