JimD, not that it's of any circumstance but that's a typo in the article. 12 cylinder BMW's are called 760Li's. The first year they were released BMW actually offered what was called a "Presidential Package" with the features you're describing built in straight from the factory. Because of the approximate ton of extra armor a V12 engine had to be used. It was the only thing that could carry that much weight around efficiently at "get-away" speeds. This is the same engine being put in Rolls Royce Phantoms today with a few minor modifications.
Bama, if the U.S. ever calls on Colombia to pay back any funds we've given them, I'm sure it will be perceived like any other loan you make to a Colombian. A gift. I've always assumed that the U.S. sent so much money to Colombia because the government perceives Revolutionary Armies like the FARC as a serious threat to the national security of every country in the Western Hemisphere. We now know that the FARC has very little concern for any political agenda and is simply the largest, best armmed drug cartel on Earth. These days they are successfully supplying the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico with thousands of tons of cocaine every year. IMO, it would be more advantageous to the war on drugs to give the money to Mexico in support of their efforts against the cartel there. This would cut the snake off at the head. However, the strong demand for cocaine, heroin and marijuana here in the states, along with the corruption of government officials in both Mexico and Colombia makes every dollar we send SOTB with the intention of supporting the war on drug cartels a total loss.
