Why I Love Cali

Two news items from Cali today:1. A guy climbed over the wall of the Cali zoo in the middle of the night and tried to steal a deer. He told the authorities who caught him he planned to kill and eat it.2. Two hundred sellers of stolen cel phones staged a protest in downtown Cali today against a new government law that will make it impossible to activate stolen cel phones. They are outraged and insist the government is robbing thousands of caleños of their livelihood.  No word yet whether the actual thieves who number considerably more will come forward and stage their own protest.

From what you have observed it sounds like Cali still has a bit of a frontier flavor even in this day and age. I wonder of the TV series "Deadwood" would be very popular there.

I hope that cell phone law passes ... getting victimized and possibly shot for your phone is just rediculous.

I saw on the news a few days ago that over 3 million cell phones were stolen in Bogota in 2010. This should go a long way towards cutting down on petty crime, but it makes you wonder who is buying all those stolen phones ... probably the same people buying their own phones back ...
