IMBRA Question
« on: May 12, 2011, 05:13:35 PM »
Someone has suggested to me that I use free sites as opposed to pay sites so as not to have to comply with IMBRA.  If I haven't committed any crimes or have anything worrysome in my background, how could IMBRA potentially derail me marrying a foreign woman?

IMBRA is designed to place regulations on the Marriage Broker. To this point IMBRA has not been enforced though some key elements to enforcement have begun to be put into place. While the supporters of IMBRA would undoubtedly like for the threat of IMBRA to have the effect of IMB customers demanding IMBs to conform to IMBRA, there is little to be concerned about for the US Citizen seeking to bring a fiance to the US on a K-1. That may change in the future, but for now, don't sweat it.

There has been alot of discussion about IMBRA on VJ.The best I can tell is the only people the might have a problem are guys the have been convicted of one of the crimes IMBRA was setup to prevent. The problem with enforcement is there is some confusion about which agency will enforce it.

I checked yes on question #19 and gave the required info. They did ask how we met at the embassy interview and AOS  interview. We told the truth and I had copies of documents that proved we complied with UMBRA.From what I have read on VJ USCIS is asking and keeping a record of the answers they receive on whether or not some one used an IMB but that's about it.When we were asked it seemed like a routine question, no big deal.
