Thanks Robert that pretty much was what my lady was saying...Believe me when I say I do not want to change her beliefs. I was also wondering what the h-ll she was gonna do if she ever comes to Texas. Like GA. we can match anybodies humidity. She will have a full time job keeping my back dry. I would like to shift gears here and go to a tradition. We have (she) planned a special meal in Bacolod City and yes I will try all of her favorite foods!!!! She has already told me after the meal she will stand up and sing to me. Any help here would be great. KFC what did your wife tell you?

Hey Dewey,

What you said here:

>>>We have (she) planned a special meal in Bacolod City and yes I will try all of her favorite foods!!!! She has already told me after the meal she will stand up and sing to me. Any help here would be great. KFC what did your wife tell you<<<

That makes me chuckle. I guess I've tried at least a little bit of everything my wife likes--her 'favorite foods' and even some non favorites she eats. Some were by accident--certain dishes look a lot like others. For instance, I really hate liver, but there's probably a number of dishes that have liver in thick soup or gravy, that unless you were told, you'd think it was beef--for me--one taste and yuck!. Sometimes, my wife will see me going towards a dish on the table and say "no, honey--you won't like that' and I take her word on it. I've dried various dried fish, squid, octopus and sardines, and while it's not truly a Filipino thing, I will eat various kinds of sushi to a small extent with my wife. Some of the sushi can be real expensive! I do draw the line at eating eel!

Hey, if you eat all HER favorite foods, do YOU get to choose the song she has to sing?--maybe "God Bless America" "The Star Spangled Banner", etc?

My wife would NEVER sing this song in front of others, one that she sometimes likes to sing in front of me to sort of tease me--that is when she breaks into dramatic, a hilarious rendition of The Weather Girl's old (first release 1982)  hit:  'It's Raining Men"--pretending like she's some sort of 'naughty girl'---lol--I guess it was a big hit back in the Philippines--to give you an idea, have a look-- this video is a hoot! It's probably a karaoke staple too.

Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

Robert my lady is very serious about the singing, she already has the restaurant picked out and the meal also. Not only will she sing to me but who ever is there. She has told me the song is for me. my lady has won several beauty contests and I am thinking that was her talent. She is a very pretty lady. I just thought one of you seasoned vets have heard of such a thing. Being my first time there I was just looking for a heads uP!!! By the way that time is nearing and I am starting o get excited. less than a month and counting.

My wife is "shy" but she love to sing & sings just about anything. She would hear a son maybe twice & the she would be singing the entire song. She likes Hillsong, The Eagles, Jim Brickman (one of her fav)and most of the 80's/90's  artists.

One of the best rendition of "it's Raining Men" & "I Will Survive" that I have ever heard  was sung by a family friend of the wife - a bakla. "Joyce" did justice to these songs.

My wife's 3rd sister & cousin (the one who sang at our wedding) are the best singers in the family - they are pretty amazing. The cousin can rival most of today's American young singers -singing/voice wise.

Also, my wife doesn't know anything about the superstition of getting the wet back. But one thing that I have notice when I was in  the PI & it was really hot, my wife would put a towel on my back under my shirt, I also notice a few men doing it too.  ::)

OK, they all say that their heat and humidity can match anywhere on earth.

HOWEVER, if you have never been near the equator, then you are in for a big surprise. When you step outside at 4 a.m. and instantly break into a sweat, you’ll understand what PI weather is all about. And remember that the sun is only 16 ft above your head at the equator!  :D

I have absolutely no idea about any "tradition" of singing at a restaurant. But you have to realize that karaoke is huge over there. If you go to a videoke restaurant/bar, everyone stands up and sings and makes an ass of themselves. You will be expected to join in, BUT NEVER, EVER, EVER attempt to sing "My Way" by Frank Sinatra!

They even have 24-hr karaoke stations on cable TV! One domestic airline even had in-flight karaoke…

100% agreed on that.
My wife explained the "meaning" of that song (in the Philippines) to me.

Ok fellas you don't have to worry about me singing that particular song, but you do have my curiosity up about the "meaning". I was referring to Ga vs Tx humidity. So I just thought my skin pores were clean! LOL. Ok my flight is for the last week of June. I have never booked a international flight. Any help on what seats and class would be appreciated here. The best deal I seen coming out if DFW looked like Delta out then to LAX, ANA to Japan the ANA to Cebu. God only knows what I will fly on to Bacolod City.

dewey,

I suggest having her meet you in Cebu at Mactan Airport. Maybe spend a couple of days in Cebu City and then take a ferry/fast cat to Bacalod. Try for a daytime ferry trip so you can view the islands and sights on the way.

There is a lot to see in Cebu while you are there so I wouldn’t miss it if I were you. Also lets you get acclimated before the family inquisition… LOL!

That’s a lot of stopovers for your trip. Cathay Pacific flies LAX-Hong Kong-Cebu so check that option for comparison. Skipping a stopover at Manila airport for a first trip sounds like a good idea.
