Can she work here in the US
« on: January 29, 2011, 11:20:46 AM »
I have a general question in regards to professions in the RP and how they might translate to working here in the US.

Lets say shes a teacher or maybe a nurse. What does she need to do to be able to be a nurse or to teach here? I understand that some professions will be easily changed from there to here, but what about these kind of highly specific professions? An electronics engineer is an electronics engineer etc. that's not the question. Are there boards to pass or courses of study there that will help when shes here? I'm just curious.

I'm thinking about getting back on my bicycle...

Bill,

Most professions will require some additional study, exams or licensing.

For engineers, solid experience is almost a requirement while some engineering jobs will require US citizenship or at least graduation from an ABET accredited engineering school.

Nurses are usually in demand here even in tight employment markets but engineers, teachers, and doctors generally are not.

I know a lot of Philippine licensed dentists working here as dental assistants. Many Filipino MDs are going back to school for a nursing degree so they can possibly emigrate overseas and make much more as a RN than they can as a doctor in the PI.

She needs to pass whatever licensure is necessary in the profession that she is seeking.
