Looking for apartment in Medellin
« on: January 21, 2011, 08:39:14 PM »
My lady is moving back to Colombia next month after being away for a couple of years.  She is looking for something in or near the center of Medellin.  We want something that is in a safe neighborhood preferably a closed-unit or in an apartment building.  She is looking for a studio apartment or two bedrooms preferably furnished if reasonable.  She only needs something simple, clean and comfortable at a reasonable price.

If anyone has anything or has any recommendations it would be greatly appreciated.

EP: Nice Avatar! I learned a lot from your posts in the archives. I recall that you are very patient, not rushing into anything with this whole international dating thing, and now you have your lady, nice. Take care and best of luck in getting your lady into the right apt. My Colombian adventure starts this March, should be a blast.  ;D
So let mercy come and wash away, what I've done

Are you going with her? Going to split time? You said "moving" not visiting. Hope all's well.

EP, what sort of price range are your looking for?  I know of one for rent in Santa Monica.

Thanks UC & IZR.  She is a very special lady and we had a fabulous time in Australia.

Jeff no I am not splitting time or moving there.  She finished her degree and student visa in Australia, and she is going back to Colombia.  Currently I have been hearing how bad her neighborhood has gotten in Itagui from her relatives.  Although she isn't concerned about it, I convinced her to move into a safer place by herself until we can get through the visa process.  Although she has some cousins and friends helping her, it is very difficult for her to manage things from Australia.  She wanted to move to la estrella where she was born, but I guess the prices are pretty crazy there.  So she is thinking about Medellin.

DLV I don't really have an idea of prices, but she has been looking at places anywhere from $300-$700 per month.  She was originally looking for a place for herself, sister, and mother, but I convinced her it was silly to continue paying services on their current place until they were able to rent it.  I didn't want her spending up her money that she has worked hard for trying to maintain two places.  She has been very stressed with things and her family isn't making it any easier, so I am trying to help her out to make the transition as smooth as possible.  So we are looking for something at a fair price that I would be comfortable staying in when I come to visit.

It's amazing to me how high the rents have gotten there.

My wife lets her sister, her husband and their three kids live in her four bedroom apartment rent-free and has done so for the last seven years. Back in the day this was not such a huge gift as it is now. In fact her mother is kind of pissed about it. They were supposed to be using this as an opportunity to save and buy their own place but instead they're buying cars, going to Orlando.....
