Dark Side Of The Moon
« on: January 03, 2011, 05:21:58 PM »
I was reading about Alfredo Simon, Dominican pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles in the US shooting a man dead on New years Eve and and it occurred to me that I´ve never heard of any marriages with either dominicanas or brazileñas mentioned on this board. In fact not even dating stories. I wonder what´s up with those countries and why they´re on the dark side of the moon as far as this forum is concerned.

There has been quite a bit of conversation about Domicanas here. Do a search and you'll find plenty, and some Brazilian. This board tends to be heavily Colombia and the Philippines, though these are not the majority of Am/Latin and Am/Asian couples.

I have traveled and written extensively on the DR.   I was hoping to find a island paradise there, full of opportunities - and good female possibilities too. After much time and experience, I have centered my attention towards Colombia for many good reasons.  I did learn how to party exceptionally well in Punta Cana.  I did learn how to kite surf in Cabarete.

I was robbed and taken advantage of countless times. But, maybe I had that "screw me" look on my face.  I am no worse for the wear, and I remain a fan of the DR.

Agreed and it´s been too long since I´ve been back.

Hey Jim,

I can't answer your "Pink Floyd" question, but I have dated several Dominicanas. ;D The first was totally nuts! The second was a bit of a party girl, too loud and sociable for me.  My next was a nice lady, but a workaholic, who I hardly ever saw.  My last girlfriend, before my Filipina wife, was a Dominicana, who went from one major drama to the next. I ended it and decided that I would prefer to be alone, if not with someone from a calmer culture. I was thinking Iceland or someplace way up north!  By chance, I ended up with a Filipina, not that all Filipinas are as calm and quiet as my wife. But, I easily adapted to the Filipino culture which is mixed culture, with a lot of Spanish influences.  It is a much calmer version of the Hispanic culture found in DR, PR and Cuba. That is all I have to say about that.  ::)

I have been to both DR and Brazil.

I used to really like DR in the 90's and early 00's.  But the previous president, Hipolito Mejia, drove the country into the ground.  The last time I was there, just before Lionel Fernandez was elected again, Santo Domingo was a shambles.  Electricity was on for only a few hours a day.  Crime was rampant.  Inflation was very high.  The roads were horrendous; the road to the airport was in serious disrepair.

At the time, I was getting more into IT and appreciated good and reliable infrastructure.  DR was a disaster on that account.  I felt that women living under those conditions would mostly be looking for a quick and easy way out.

Brazil is further away and is more expensive.  I had to learn another language.  But Lula has put Brazil in great working order.  Brazil is a country that functions pretty well in its large cities.  I think that women from such an environment are much better suited for marriage with American or European men.
