The BARRANQUILLA babe thread!
« on: November 12, 2010, 05:10:58 PM »
More and more posters are coming out of the woodwork regarding where they met their novia/fiancee/spouce/.  Barranquilla

By my count here are the posters of recent past and present.

1. Fathertime! (me)—
2. Whitey
3. Alabamaboy
4. Fuzzy
5. Montreoler (hardy ever posts now)
6. Raycjs
7. Pivery
8. Sean 127

I am probably unaware or forgot a couple others.  Based on these numbers, it certainly seems that Barranquilla is the best location to find a good woman to marry.  I wonder what it is about these Barranquilla babes, that makes them the most numerous in the marriage department?  Maybe a combination of the superior Marriage agency in Barranquilla and the Barranquillan babes laid back personality, or maybe it is those bootylicious mansions they call rear ends!  :D  Whatcha think?

I have a friend who doesn't post on this board that met his fiance in BAQ through Jamie's agency.  They are very happy, she is very pretty and sweet (typical barranquillera), and is just a five minute walk from Nazly's house.

Everyone has their own opinions and tastes of course, and there are great women everywhere in Colombia, but I have had a couple Colombian friends here in Canada who are not from Barranquilla tell me that barranquilleras make the best wives.

I really like the people in Barranquilla, but Medellin is a much more livable city for me.  Perfect climate, cleaner, more things to do, very well organized transportation system, breathtaking location in the valley.  It's not much fun hanging out in Barranquilla unless you're with someone you love.

Probably due to the fact that many have used LAI and post on this forum.  Many years ago a lot of guys preferred Cali.  Pete E, Calipro, UKCaliumbo;D, etc.

Me too. It seems that we all know a couple other guys who met their women in Barranquilla.  Great place to meet women, but like Whitey said, maybe a little too hot/humid to live there.

I have never been to Barranquilla, but have spent time in Cali and Medellin.  One factor that may be in play is that because, to quote Whitey "It's not much fun hanging out in Barranquilla unless you're with someone you love," the women from Barranquilla might be more motivated to leave.

Back in the 90s it was Cali.I visited BQ but it was a time that I really wanted to visit other places. No doubt there are some babes there. There is only one person in our circle of Latino friends here from BQ and he is a guy.He has a PHD in physics and is studying catalytic converters to try and find a cheaper metal to use in them.Of course he is very intelligent and the running joke is when people find out he is from BQ they say " are you sure you are not from India?"

This is a bad year for rain, but in all my previous trips, there was only an occasional shower, never every day. I love the weather in Medellin and much prefer it to Bogota,  I'm curious as to what other cities men on this board have met their significant other, so I created a poll. Perhaps Fathertime is correct in his assertion! If I had to take a guess as to the ranking by city, starting from the city where the most men on this board met their significant other, it would be :

Barranquilla
Cali
Bogota
Medellin
Manizales

The weird thing is that they are not motivated to leave! At least the ones I met from there. Now the ones from Cali, Bucaramanga, Bogota? Yes they seem so eager to leave. But for some reason those gals from BAQ love it there. Even without air conditioning, anything to do. They seem more simple and down to earth. And I think FT, Whitey, Pivery, and others have basically said the same.

I personally love Barranquilla and the people in general there. I just spent
almost 6 months this year between Bogota and Barranquilla and there are
great women in both cities, but there was a type of warmth from the people
and from the women in particular that makes them very attractive for the
average Joe.

As far as the women wanting to leave, I'm sure there are those who feel that
by leaving Colombia they have a better quality of life, but from the women I met
and including my lady, none really had a burning desire to leave. They wanted to
visit places here and see what all the hype is, but then return to the motherland.

There are also many guys here who have met their novia or wife through Jamie's
out in Barranquilla and from the quality of women he puts in front of a guy, most
tend to forget about going anywhere else. I know I did...

It's heaven for a single man there and the women really treat you like you are
special. But after all isn't that what we all want? ;)

Yep, Nazly would be happier to stay in Barranquilla ... she would love for me to be able to move there.  I don't know tons of women in Barranquilla, but Nazly's friends that I do know have never mentioned any desire to leave ... although many would be interested to meet and marry a gringo.

Whitey,

I think more females than we realize--and from both across Latin America, Asia and probably other parts of the world as well, would much rather have us live in their homeland, together with us as their husband. I know my wife certainly would and if it weren't for financial and family reasons for the time being, I think I'd be 'over there' and pretty happy.

To be realistic, while love is almost always the main consideration (at least I hope), I think part of it is also that if the husband has a good job, retirement or other income and the currency rate of exchange is good, you can share a pretty good standard of living in most foreign countries and have family support from your there wife as well.

I think the only limiting consideration that might make it difficult for some of us, might be the level of quality for health care and insurance availability, but I am thankful that's not a limiting factor for us presently.

Nary a day goes by without me adding up our financial resources and trying to estimate the days before we can spend most of our time in her country and live in reasonable comfort, living a life that isn't nearly as complicated (I hope) but one that still offers enough excitement when desired, to keep things interesting.

I think most foreign wives would like to see some of the more famous sites in the USA, such as Disney World, Washington D.C., NYC and some others, but that a lot of them find  living, working, socializing and other aspects of 'Life, North  American Style' to not be quite as attractive as the movies make it out to be.

I kind of thought that once my wife settled in here, she'd love it so much that she'd hardly want to go home. boy, was I wrong.

Pretty much the only foreigners I've met who really don't want to go back home to live are those from nations with horrible political regimes, disenfranchised people from places like Vietnam, some Eastern Europe/former USSR nations and other nations that are unsafe and in turmoil.

Don't get me wrong--I'm not bashing my own country--there are some great places to live here and many of us enjoy a very high standard of living and more freedoms than almost any other nation could afford us. I just think that I at least, was wrong in assuming almost everybody else from other nations would think that this is the greatest place on earth to live. A whole lot of people from other nations certainly do, but even a lot of those folks, if they had more opportunities back in their homelands and enough money, might feel differently.
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

Hey Pivaroni!

I gotta agree with pivs here.  I think my woman would be just as happy in Barranquilla as she is here.  I don't subscribe to the theory that the reason there are so many ladies marrying to us bloated gringos is because they want to desperately leave the city of Barranquilla more so then other ladies of Colombia want to leave their cities.

That being said, clearly across the board, the possibility of a more comfortable life financially speaking is something that we can usually offer and that is often a factor, in some cases a minor factor and in other cases perhaps a little more.

jaja! I know you are joking, but just to be 100% clear, Barranquilla has so many attractive available women still walking around it is completely ridiculous.  Frankly, Cali does too, and probably the rest of the cities too.  Getting on the plane remains the biggest obstacle for most men!

The biggest reason ,IMHO, women would rather stay in their country is because they want to be near their families.I'd say thats about the only reason, unless they happen to have a good job or something. My wife quit her job to move here with me.ait was a good job that paid well for Colombia but there is very little job security. In Colombia if you don't have your own business by a certain age you are pretty much out of luck when it comes to income.

I would move out of the US in a heartbeat if I could retire.Otherwise, given the choice to go and "scratch out" a living elsewhere or the US, I'll just stay here thank you.My wife loves living here. She has many more opportunities than in Colombia. The last visit we made to Bogota she saw one of the buses she used to take to her job and said "I don't think I could do that now".

FT

Soljas met his women in BAQ and they are married over 5 years.... he doesn't post much anymore.....(his life and health is a roller coaster, his women is the backbone )

My girl is from BAQ and the most important things about her in no particular order... she's a great cook, she keeps a spotless home, has no desire to be a party girl, no interset in managing money( only cares about food in the house and clothes on our back) how it gets there is not her problem....she cute & sexy (in my eye's) she is very relaxed, time is not an issue, theses are the major points. If my girl had her choice we would be living in BAQ, she loves and misses her family, but she also loves the life we have here in the US..

i  know some  guys who married girls from BAQ, but don't post on here. most the guys i know who are  still married to Colombian girls are from Bogota and Barranquilla. lowest numbers seem to be from Medellin and Cali.  other  guys i know who married from other Latin America countries seem to have a better chance of  a long term marriage, ie Peru, Mexico etc, lower divorce rate from what i have noticed.

I'll be very interested to see how Nazly feels about moving back to Colombia 3 or 4 years after she's been here.  I ask all of my Colombian friends here in Canada whether they think retiring in Colombia is a good idea, and if they would do it.  I haven't had one tell me yet that they want to retire there - they all would prefer to stay here in Canada, and maybe just vacation occasionally in Colombia.

The reason is always for the security - they love the freedom here and just don't want to be looking over their shoulders all the time again.

I love going to Colombia on holiday, and I'd like to try living there, but I wonder sometimes if I could handle it.

I hear ya.  I pretty much like the idea of living in Colombia as a single man, but a married man with family is something that I would be very hesitant to do.  It seems very easy for some desperate person to make a crazy move against a gringo and family, in order to extort some bucks.  That can happen anywhere but in Colombia it seems much more commonplace.  If it were just me I had to be concerned about, MAYBE, but not with children, it just isn't worth the risk, IMO.

In addition to all this, as a married man, Colombia loses a lot of it's allure. All the beautiful babes to be tempted with.  I just don't see this as a good thing for a marriage!  Now if multiple simultaneous marriages were allowed and everybody was amenable then that is a different story! jaja! :D  Maybe next lifetime!
