Well--if I don't get off line and according to my wife 'give her some extra time' and watch the Miss Universe pageant with her in my arms, I may have to make my own breakfast--who knows--maybe even my own lunch tomorrow. Egads!

Filipinas sure are serious about those pageants!

And is it any wonder, given that they frequently win many categories, including  the  "Most Photogenic" category one they've won more than any other nation?

Oh well, I make her sit with me during the Super Bowl. I like the Filipina who suggested they give the football game players TWO balls so they wouldn't play so rough fighting over that one ball.

Anyway, the contestants on Miss Universe sure are a lot easier on the eyes and I won't generate any tampo for looking---so paalam for now...

Commercial break---guess who just won the first category--the swimsuit category?-----Miss Philippines!!!! Gotta run, she just won and they're down to ten contestants  now and the evening gown comp. is coming up...

Personally, I think they should break the swimsuit category into two categories--bikini and full body swimsuits!

I found someone a GREAT Filipina from the bundok...Maria Venus Raj! Single Filipina, born out of wedlock to a Filipina mother and Indian father in Qatar, her mother refused to sell her to Arabs for $60,000 as a baby, raised in a nipa hut in the middle of a rice paddy in the Philippines, worked as a farmer with her mother, now buying land on installment so her family can have a better life... http://mariavenusraj.com/mariavenusrajwebsite/#/HOME-01-00/

Congratulations to Miss Mexico!

I was impressed...but not surprised that Miss Philippines spoke damn good English! Hard to believe that this was raised in the middle of a rice paddy in the Philippine bundok and this was her first trip to the US!

Haha I would rather watch Miss Universe over the Superbowl any day. All of that eye candy.
Some of my filipina pen pals demanded that I update them on the results while they were at the Cafe. You're right, they do all seem to be really into it.

I liked Mexico the best from the beginning. She deserved the win. Muy bonita.

Maybe it is just me, but I wasn't overly impressed. I would have preferred Miss Jamaica. IMHO most of the Latinas looked European.

Miss Thailand Fonthip Watcharatrakul was given the title of Miss Photogenic and won Best National Costume.

I thought pretty early on that Miss Mexico was going to win. What a smoker!! Too much mascara still couldn't hide those sultry eyes. You know, she did look sort of European--almost like a brunette, brown eyed younger version of super model Heidi Klum.

Now they'll scour the globe for risque, or even nude pics of her--maybe even digitaly creating ones--dirt always sells, these days.

I was surprised Ms. Philippines squeaked thru the evening gown contest--her gown was a bit too traditional, but I'm glad she didn't wear the traditional Filipina national dress with the shoeboxes on the shoulders! Where'd they ever come up with that? Too bad her back ground overcoming hardships and her academic accomplishments weren't highlighted--it could've inspired a lot of children.

She also got the weirdest question asked of her--basically calling on her to try and criticize herself, (she didn't) while the lovely Miss Jamaica got a gem of a question.

I also picked Ms. Australia, a bit of a dark horse with that 'girl next door' wholesomeness, for second place, which she earned, and her evening gown was stunning.

It was a nice couple hours of fluff, which naturally being a Donald Trump affair, was probably one third commercial breaks, with lots of commercial tie ins even during the program and I am sure they all had to pay 'the Donald' for that exposure.

Ethan,I forgot to mention that we watch the Super Bowl as much for the commercials as anything....

Hey Rob,

I think the big problem as that Miss Philippines has never done anything bad!  She has been doing her best in school and helping her mother and other family to survive. Pretty typical really for the Philippines. It must be hard for many Americans to believe that she hasn't been involved in some major incidents, whether personal or criminal by age 22!

She should have used a translator, so she could have taken 5 minutes to think of what the judges wanted to hear and answer the question one sentence at a time. It also pays to have a good translator reword your response!

Something I've always wondered about.......why don't we invite baseball teams from other countries to the 'World' Series, and why don't we invite women from other planets to participate in the Miss 'Universe' pageant?

oh, and happy birthday to me today (sixty, if you must ask)

I am reading now that Miss Philippines had a legitimate shot at the Miss Universe title until the final question & that her answer cost her the crown.

I cannot see the video of the pageant at work - what was the question & her answer?
If we were all forced to wear a warning label, what would yours say?
