My son a lawyer?!?!?!? Hell no. He wants to be an NFL quarterback, preferably for the Raiders.

This will be his second year as varsity quarterback and his seventh year playing that position.

Actually, as far as the dad was concerned, the marriage to a farang made a clear statement about what his daughter really did for a living. She was giving him the tailor shop routine as well.

I had to provide references to the current wife's mother- and she checked them out. I gave three prominent Thai friends of mine.

It isn't just Thailand where even being seen with a foreigner makes many people view you as a prostitute or 'easy'.

In the Philippines, I would venture to guess that Mindanao, and even it's biggest city Davao, is a bit more old fashioned and conservative than Manila or Cebu. I am sure that most of the provincial areas are too.

My wife dreaded the thoughts some people might have, but even after more than five years in the USA, she always thinks that way to an extent, wanting to look wholesome and clean, a bit sexy maybe on weekends, but never, ever suggestive. I wouldn't mind her tying up her blouse and showing a little bit of that slender midriff above her shorts, some high heels or putting a little sexy wiggle in her walk, but she just won't go there outside the house.

On our first visit she wanted family around a lot and when we were together at our hotel, which was one of the city's best---no 'short time'  and all night rates, she was concerned about the mirror--before she'd even kiss me, she wanted to make sure that it wasn't a two way mirror. I was glad it wasn't attached to the wall, or she'd still be nervous.

It seems so hilarious to me now, but it was a pain in the ass back then.

When we went on most of our excursions to popular sites, at least one or two of her brothers were usually along. They balanced things out by occasionally drifting away for a coke and allowing us some snuggy time, but it was pretty apparent coming and going that we were a 'unit'.

She even wondered if the red light on the smoke detector in our room was a video camera!

Part of all this was that a college student from that town around that time was exposed on a video that went wide on the internet of the student with a foreigner screwing and it was the talk of the town, but a lot of it was her up bringing. She lived with her younger brothers, who also went to college there and she didn't want to be not seen not coming back to their boarding house overnight and leaving them to make 'conclusions'.

I think she was happy to see the sign on the door stating something along the lines of 'no over night guests' basically stipulating no local, unmarried single women for over night stays, although it was very clear that in this big hotel, all sorts of 'hanky panky' was going on, with single couples and some girls who seemed to be prostitutes, coming and going. They all wanted to jump my bones every time they saw me put my now wife in the taxi to send her home for the night, waiting across the street, and scoping out the situation.

I guess I'll have to share this 'respectable' hotel's private facility massage 'options' , with couples together or in separate booths, as well as their available  in room massage services for another time, but suffice to say, they were varied in nature and degree.

There were a lot of easy babes all over Davao City and some way out in the provinces even, who wouldn't have thought twice of running around to see the sights and doing full blown over night stays at hotels with foreigners, but I noticed that a lot of my wife's friends sort of dreaded the risk of being looked at as being a a 'bad girl' too, if they were seen running around town with some kano.

It all seemed so fun and innocent looking back and going to Davao now, I can see how things have already changed to a degree.

She cheated on the lawyer, got turned in by her friends and then married the Goth and shares with his friends.

FIVE non working slackers. They have their little honey pot to work for them ::). You can take the girl out of the bar but you cant take the bar out of the girl.

2000 NCAA scholarships a year. about 300  players make it to the NFL from college each year.

We are only worrying about potential scholarships right now. And getting through this season. With a good injury-free season, his prospects are bright. But career ending injuries can happen in high school too.  He would be interested in becoming a teacher and football coach. At his alma mater of course.  A 4.0 GPA can carry him a long way in school selection.

I am having a similar experience with my sweetie.  Although Americans are seen as pretty decent, the "stigma" still exists that if you are seen with a kano you are a prostitute or easy.

Also, some believe that kanos are abusive and violent.  I really don't think its possible to overcome all of the stigmas, so I will not try.

If you are in her province or barangay, then the people will get to know you and it will not be a big deal, just make your name for yourself.

In other areas of PI the perception will probably rule and most people will assume that you are with a bar girl or an easy woman, nothing you can do about that!

If you never spend much time in the PI, it won't be a big deal!

If you live in the states, AmW will assume you are a perv, because your woman looks and is half your age!

The guys will envy you!

In all the cities/provinces that we went too - I never had that feeling (neither did Ahya - as far as I can tell). There were times a few people did ask her a question & then did "congratulate" her. Also, people would see us day in/day out, so if they had that perception - it did quickly disappeared.

I think a lot have to do with the way you carry yourself & the places you frequent -if you visit bars, Karaoke or go out drinking with your lady, then people will think that way but if you out there grocery shopping, going to the malls, museums, sites etc, then they will think otherwise.

On a side note, I have received a lot congratulation messages, hellos, invites on my facebook, etc, mostly from people in the PI (people who never did said hi or anything like that to me when I was in Manila) as well as Filipino/Filipinas outside the PI.  I would ask Ahya who is that person & she would say so & so and then tell me to reply/send message ;D.  I think on my next trip there, I would be/feel "more welcome".

Re:

Sad but true. We don't let it bother us and the few comments that we weren't supposed to hear, (but did anyways) were in places like Disneyworld--out of town resorts and such.

Now hell, when we were in South Beach, Miami, I think a guy in his mid 50's, early  60's, could be dancing with a girl in a bikini who looked all of 14 y/o in one of their hottest clubs like the Mango Club, and no one would look twice. It ain't Iowa, that's for sure...

I don't know if 'perv' is the right word, but the weirdest situation was about five years ago when my wife and I were out shopping. As typical, we certainly weren't fighting, we always get along in public and rarely fight at all, actually. In this case, we weren't even holding  hands. Just some ho hum browsing the sale racks, no stress at all on our faces at all.

Anyway, we were in a dept. type store, a few rows apart, when some woman who looked like some white southern trailer trash park queen, approached my wife and offered to help her 'escape' from me, presumably to a better, less abused life. She even volunteered that she had 'helped' women in this way before. Maybe rather than some twisted good samaritan wannabe, she's the lead procurer for 'Bubba's Brothel'...

We laughed about it later, but I can't help but wonder if something really awful might've happened to my wife had this scuzzy woman caught her closer to the car door.

Maybe a couple of times a year, (I guess some years never) we might go out to what we've been told is the hottest night club to get into. This summer, the one we went to was a three level place, the first floor mostly Brazilian and South Americans, dancing hot and heavy to music from their part of the world--lots of eye candy to scope out.

The second floor is a mix of urban hip hop, mostly blacks and some whites, always a lot of people, sharp dressers and like downstairs, a hopping dance floor, with a number of 'pretty people' getting hot n heavy.

The top floor--my favorite, is not nearly as tightly packed, and plays a mix of everything, but mostly edgy, danceable techno--electronica music--a lot of dance mixes. It has leather sofas so you can chill out, have your space and watch the dancers--some awesome break and hip hop dancers occasionally will compete up there and being able to space out room wise, it's just nicer to snuggle up and maybe kiss a bit.

Nobody gives us any weird 'why is this older white guy--6 foot plus, 200 pounds easy, hanging with this oh so pretty looking little 5 ft1, 90 pound Asian girl' kind of thing?  looks. I do see the side looks of guys, both with babes of their own as well as the ones single and on the prowl, who seem to be thinking "Man--that is one frickin lucky bastard', but hey, I am! But there's no 'dirty old man' kind of vibe going on there.

If my wife reads this, it might send us to divorce court because she is a modest lady --ESPECIALLY in public, but it cracks me up how sometimes when we've been out and have seen pretty women, all dolled up and pushing the envelopes as far as they can all powdered up with garish makeup and fire engine red lipstick, with mini skirts that show their under wear, while she's just in semi tight jeans, a nice, high cut blouse, no make up, shiny hair and dazzling white teeth with perfect nails. She's the REAL bomb--the 'Stealth Bomber' if you will--and a lady too.

Then I get her home and we've showered and she she gets into that Victoria's Secret nighty after (or before) and half jokingly sings and dances in our bedroom, doing that song "Don't cha wish your girlfriend was HOT like me?"--hell--if I was dumb enough to try and get a GF, she wouldn't be.

In a park, maybe even at the mall, if we're splitting up to hit different sections, we'll give each other a sweet kiss in close, but we both think that heavy making out in public just isn't cool. When she sees couples grinding and tongue kissing on the dance floor, it grosses her out. In fact, even though everyone at our work places knows we're married, she is too modest to even let me kiss her if any one is around.

I think that more than we know, that a number of Asian women are the proverbial "Angels in public--tigers in the bedroom" types.

In all the cities/provinces that we went too - I never had that feeling (neither did Ahya - as far as I can tell).

I believe you.

Presently, this has been my experience:

I've had some feed back and concern from one of my sweeties "friends".  This one particular girl, doesn't like kanos for some reason, and she continues to discourage her and tell her horror stories about kano pinay relationships in the news.  Worse yet, she gives my sweeties cell number to pinoys so she can have new male "friends"!  It go so bad, my sweetie had to threaten to tell her parents to get her to stop after repeated personal attempts, and tell the strange men that she would call the police if they didn't stop harassing her.

Also, her sister lives in Hong Kong and knows a lot of Americans that frequent Thailand.  She has concerns about my intentions because of things she has seen.  My sweeties mother wants her to finish school and not get distracted by anything!  All relationships have their challenges, based on my experience, this one has some unique ones!

I'm not sure that "everyone" who saw you approved and had the most positive things on their mind.

But, its good that you didn't see any disapproving stares or received any harsh words while on your visit.

That's very refreshing and encouraging!

Where did you visit?

Zulu
Taguig City (her present home base), Pangasinan (her home town), Baguio, Pasay, Makati, San Juan, Pasig, Quezon City, Parañaque, Bulacan, Rizal, Santa Rosa, San Jose del Monte, Bohol & Cebu. During our trips, we did stop in a few places & did frequent them a few times.

I think that's a good thing!

In my experience, asian women, from Asia, have been mostly on the two extremes.  Very conservative and reserved, or bar girl sluts.

My sweetie is very conservative and I think, based on your posts, very similar to your wife.  She insists that I propery court her and ask her parents permission in person when I visit.

I probably need to live in PI to see the middle type that "date" different guys like females do in the states.  I'm sure they exist, but I just don't have the experience to know much else.

Robert your wife looks 16ish!  You better watch out for the local perv patrol!!  They are probably bugging your house and got hidden video setting you up for a televised perv bust!!   ;D

ROTFLMAO!!

JUST KIDDING!!

Ha, ha, Zulu,

Re:

>>Robert your wife looks 16ish<<

She refuses to cut her hair in any of the short stylish, cutting edge styles that a lot of Japanese seem to favor or she'd look, maybe 14 y/o. and she knows it. Short hair's pretty much the rule for school girls in the Philippines and she just can't go there.

She's seen Kano guys who love to take 'cute' pictures of their wives in short, Catholic School plaid skirts, post them online and she will never ever go there. Heck, she won't even were the black, soft leather skirt I got her.

The 16 y/o girls who she supervises at work all look older than her and admit to it too and the boys tease her about how she can't possibly be her age. Part of it is they're taller and a in comparison, a bit overweight, with the girls wearing as much make up as my wife will allow them to, (Not TOO much or she sends them to the wash room) and she's short and has a nice figure with curves in all the right places--but all in tone and 'gravity defying'. And she always has the most neatly ironed clothing of the bunch.

What is it about Filipinas and ironing clothes??  I tell her that ironing some of my wash and wear dress shirts is not only unnecessary, but the w & w chemicals that they put in those shirts mess up the look and feel because of hot irons.

Finally, I just gave up and now only buy on pure cotton stuff. There's no way in hell, I'll spend hours a week ironing anything, so she and I better stay together, because I would be hard pressed (no pun intended) to buy a whole new wardrobe...

If we're in a place that requires ID, the person checking inevitably looks at her ID to the point where I think they're near sighted, doing triple takes.

You guys have lovely wives, prospective brides to be, etc and I am sure you'll be amazed at a whole lot of things in them. They may feel a bit subconscious about looking so much younger than they are, but that won't stop them from buying, once they can afford it, good skin moisturizing creams and  beauty products.

My wife doesn't pay ridiculous prices for most of that stuff, in fact she's bothered by spending $15 for things like  Clinique brand's clear lip gloss, but as typical, she values it SPF (sun protection) and moisturizing properties, so I tell her to not sweat it--to go ahead. I don't think she has a tube of lip stick at all--if she does, it's years old.. She encourages me to take better care of my skin and overall health too.

I think Filipinos think that vitamins are the answer for every sickness, but yet aren't something we have to take every day--kind of weird.

Something I recommend for her, me and all you guys as well , is St Ives Apricot naturally clear skin scrub. It has tiny weenie bits of apricot pit and when you shower or even just wash your face with that scrub--it makes you feel clean and adds a nice shine to the skin--for $2.97 a six ounce tube around here, we even use it on our feet. A bunch of companies make the same basic  stuff. I know people who'll spend $450 on a 4 ounce jar of skin cream and 18K on a full face lift, who'll use that stuff too.

I bet Kfc knows the scoop on that--that he knows the quality high end women's (and men's) products--some that actually do work for them and the few really good ones that don't cost a fortune

Anyways---Zulu--thanks for the funny compliment. Sometimes--as recently as the last few days--I have made my wife pretty damned pissed, but I am glad that it isn't very long before we usually make up and we'll see two elderly looking people out and about, holding hands and helping each other, she gets wistful and says "I hope we're like that some day" and "I love how both our pairs of parents are still so much in love".....

I'm pretty good at screwing up relationships over time, but hopefully I can break my perfect record there with this one!

Same here with Ahya, she wanted tp iron everything of mine.I purposely brought a few item that  didn't need to be iron yet she she still wanted to iron them. She wanted to iron my linen shirts, I told her that is the way they suppose to look - she knews that but she still wanted to "take a few wrinkles out" ::).

I sure do.

Ahya's favorites are Dove & Olay. She likes them over The Body Shop.
I have 2 huge bags of beauty stuff that I got from Allure, I will send them to her for X-Mas. I will also hit the store when they have the Labor Day Sales.
